Game #60: Aaron Cook vs Yovani Gallardo
Colorado Rockies at Milwaukee Brewers, Jun 11, 2009 12:05 PM MDT
Cook vs. Gallardo would have been the main event on the card if this series was a wrestling match, but it's buried here on a getaway afternoon game with the Rockies having already wrapped up a series win by beating Milwaukee twice. So what is today? Icing. Yummy sour cream frosting on a delicious chocolate cupcake.
Finish the cupcake Rockies. Don't cheat out on the icing.
The lineup widget's still unavailable, let's drool over some wildcard standings in the meantime:
Yeah, I think one team there has more momentum than the others.

Lineups per Renck at the DP
CF Gonzalez
2B Barmes
1B Helton
RF Hawpe
LF Spilborghs
3B Stewart
SS Tulowitzki
C Phillips
RHP Cook
Its almost like Tracy is listening to the Row to make out his lineup card, I love it
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
More than listening to us....
Is the consistency we are getting now. I honestly believe the constant shuffling really hurt the team. Baseball players are such creatures of habit, and I don’t think they were ever able to get into their comfort zone.
Also, I’m ok with the outfield shuffle today, as long as it wasn’t combined with an Atkins start, which would have happened with Hurdle.
Consistency is the key. Plus the pressure of saving Hurdle's job is off.

but also happen to be when I can watch, for some reason.
Well, I'm more concerned about getting to see the game than Fox's revenue numbers. It's all about me.

By number of wins, this one's already tied...and with one fewer city in the trip...
…not sure if there’s a better one by percentage
Going for an eighth straight win and a second straight road sweep
Are we on the front page of MLB.com? Of course not.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
We'd have to be going
for 20-straight, and then it’ll move off the page when some guy announces that he’ll opt out of his contract.

Yeah
Nashville has a promotion where you get a free White Castle if the team strikes out ten. When Gallardo pitched for them, that was guaranteed free White Castle.
the way this team is going, we could K 10 times and still score a bunch

For the next few days, we see who signs...
Most of the Rockies picks outside of Matzek and a few HS fliers in the later rounds should sign right away, and the college seniors/more polished players will likely head to Tri-City, the HS, Juco, and less polished college draftees will head to Casper.
hope we keep some money available for Maztek.

He may not be getting on
but he’s still seen something like 20 pitches in his 3 at-bats. It’s nice to have a guy that can frustrate a pitcher before he gets to the heart of the lineup. It would be a little nicer if he can do that and find himself standing on 2nd base when said heart of lineup comes up to bat.

and against a guy like Gallardo
that goes deep into games, 20 pitches in 3 at bats is a good way to help chase him out of there early.

Wasn't a fan of naming Tracy..

It shouldn’t be, but I have a feeling it probably is.
Technically, Dex entered as a pinch runner.

Good call getting Street warmed up....
….at first, I was surprised to hear he was up; not sure if this was precautionary or maybe Tracy knew Flores was going to implode.

Tracy seems pretty smart when it comes to the bullpen. He always seems to be one step ahead of the other guy.

His arm is getting a ton of work this week. We have a 4 run lead and he needs rest. Is there another RHP that can come in and get one fly out and one ground out?

Ownership & Front Office.

Rockies, I Spilly you.
and Spilly got the start today!!! This makes it the best game of the streak, so far.
Way to go, Rockies!
That 9th inning would have been tough to stomach, but maybe Street and the Rockies figured another 1-run victory would look good on the resume!
Just ran into a baseball-related tidbit in a book I'm working on.
Apparently someone did a study of nearly 5 million at-bats from 74,197 games since 1960 and found that pitchers were most likely to hit a batter after the batter hit a home run the last time at bat, or after the previous batter did so. No idea what the actual numbers were.
