GAHHHHHH
Quit sitting on your hands, O’Dowd! Get this guy UP! NOW
If that means we need to send down Dex, do it. He is going to hit a point of stagnation sooner than later.

Send Dex down?
Has he hit that point where he needs to make mechancial adjusments against slower/worse pitching, or to get his confidence back? OR does he need to learn how to hit major league pitching? I’m not sure.
Speaking of sending a guys to AAA. There is a lot of talk surrounding some good prospects for the Rockies going down. This does NOT mean that said players/prospects are done, or washed up, or washed out, our busts.
Some times a AAA refresher is needed to work on Mechanics, Get confidence, get regular playing time/get work in, get a breather from the major league spot light (even if that spot light is a very dim one like Denver). It doesn’t mean the player sent down is gone forever, in fact it can be a very healthy thing for a player’s development.
So fans when you see Stewart, Fowler, and maybe even Tulowitzki go down, it’s not a slam against them, In fact like sending an employee to a further education class, it means that those players are still valuable, and worth investing that training in.
Well you see where I'm going
Dex is walking well, but he’s striking out way too much.
a .346 OBP isn’t terrible for a rookie, esp with a .258 AVG, and while I’m not thrilled with his power numbers, I’d rather him work on bat control than power hitting.

The more I watch the Rockies
the more I think Stewart and Tulowitzki would really do great with a little trip to the Springs.
Stewart, I don’t know what his problem is. It looks like to me he isn’t picking up the pitches, or if he is it’s too late for him to adjust to. Maybe a little mechanical adjustment, and a whole lot confidence would work
Tulo, needs a break. He’s pressing, and to the point that it can’t be good for him. He also has huge mechanical issues, which would be easier to work on against lesser AAA pitching. The Rockies need Tulo in the worst way, and I’m thinking the best plan to salvage Tulo is a trip to AAA (or AA even and get away from the elevation factor)
Fowler, I don’t know. I think his is just adjusting to major league breaking stuff. Tracy suggested his bat speed was a little slow in his presser, which may mean mechanical or timing issue which could be worked on in AAA, but I think his issue is that big step from AA to the Bigs.
Stewart:
I really think he’s pressing with the ABs he gets to be productive, not knowing when his next opportunity will be. It’s easy for a young hitter to do that and throw his mechanics out of whack.

I concur
Which is why I’ve been pimping Mike McCoy just as someone to A. provide SS competition and B. give Tulo a break

Mc Coy over Nelson
or even Hector Gomez? (ok, Gomez may be a huge stretch even for a couple of weeks to look around at the bigs)
yeah, but I'm looking really short term
Nelson may show up and be the dude, but I REALLY doubt he’d be anything other than abominable in the majors at this point.

I'm not sure what's the problem is with the whole bunch of them. The pitch recognition with two strikes is horrible.
Not sure if some are worse than others but the amount of backward Ks is killing us.

I think that is a coaching issue
a player should be swinging on ANY thing close with 2 strikes. If they aren’t sure, they should be trying to foul it off. Either it’s coaching and they got chewed out for k’ing on balls, and don’t want to do that any more, or it’s a confidence thing. They don’t think they can hit it a pitch and are praying it’s a ball.
UNLESS….they just aren’t that good, and they can’t foul them off, and their talent level means they can only hit things in the strike zone. Great hitters can hit stuff out of the strike zone. Normal hitters can too, but a lesser extent. Crappy hitters can’t.
I agree with you.
If it’s a coaching issue, isn’t that what Baylor’s for?
And we’ve got a lot of guys who can foul and foul and foul yet seem to freeze at the most inopportune times.
Something is amiss and I’m not sure anyone’s doing anything about. I think they’ve got to be more aggressive with two strikes. I’d rather see them K swinging than just look at something two inches off the plate expecting to get the call.

CarGon's improvement
is remarkable. Of course he has the tools that presumably make such improvement possible, but it’s interesting to note nonetheless.
Even so.
Lancaster is a crazy hitters environment, and his 2009 blows it away. His BB/SO look like they’re from a different player. His MLE for his 2009 to date is also pretty good, about .850 OPS depending on which option you choose at minorleaguesplits.com.
Random Question but
how do you like un join different blogs that you had previously joined but don’t want to have it there anymore….anybody know?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

Just went over to the "Blog Huddle" blog and amazingly they have a post about this very topic.
Bottom line is it can’t be done. Unbelievable. And they also went off on a pro/con edit feature which I think is really needed.

Just as long as the edit is turned off
once someone replies, imo.

That's how it works on livejournal.
It’s still kind of annoying if you see a mistake after someone replies, but it makes sense because you don’t want someone to edit their comment in some underhanded way after the fact.
EY Jr. defense
Anybody know how he’s doing on defense? I seem to recall that he was pretty shaky with the glove, but I don’t follow MiLB as much as some of you guys.
Can we send Atkins down?
Is that even a possibility or is he out of options? Atkins is currently ranked dead last on current rank in the free agent market according to fangraphs - in which they take WAR and convert it to a dollar scale based on what a player would make in free agency - at negative $5.7 million. He is just behind Big Papi and Delwin Young. Dead last; let that sink in.

well our 3B anyhow
This is why I’m suggesting we just call up AAA guys to freshen the bench and give these guys some concern for their starting role, maybe THAT will light the fire

We should do a Game Thread on a Sky Sox Game sometime
I don’t know if it’s entirely possible but I think it would be fun.
Here's to hoping Francis has a speedy recovery...
it appears that milb.com has free gameday audio to the games, so it would be possible!

Free audio is good
following the link on the main page also gets you to the Sky Sox flagship station where you can listen to the game with significant delay.
