The Rockies (37-33) will go for their seventh straight victory tonight against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Ubaldo Jimenez will take the mound tonight for Colorado. In two June road starts, he is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 13 K's in 14 IP. In fact, Ubaldo has been pretty darn good everywhere all season in games against teams that are not named the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hopefully, this "Los Angeles" team does not give him the same trouble.

My guess

is that Tracy wants to reinforce that CarGon’s spot in the lineup isn’t reflective upon the previous game’s performance. By starting him even after an ugly 0-5, 3 K night yesterday, Tracy is showing confidence in the youngster.

Formerly rockiesfan06 - but the world's most generic username just wasn't cutting it.

Hey, real quick

What’s weirder….a 3B leadoff hitter or the spelling of Chone?

That's who.

Zero for fifteen in his Rockies career Kimera Bartee. The guy who never played in the majors again after that season…

That's when O'Dowd...

depleted his farm system trying to find a leftfielder to replace the injured Todd Hollandsworth.
Previously he had dealt Josh Bard and Jake Westbrook for the woeful Jacob Cruz (.211).

So much for showcasing Garrett Atkins,

Not that I’m complaining. I like this lineup a lot more.

by Rox Girl on Jun 23, 2009 7:33 PM MDT reply actions

I actually find this to be curious

as I did expect to see Atkins. He was picking up with the bat a notch (which granted isn’t saying alot) but the Rockies really need him to have some trade value.

that I have no idea how they will make it back to the 40 man roster. Ok…Torrealba will come at the expense of Bellorin.

Baker…I dunno

I really hope that Bake doesn’t get…..well….any….playing time. Our infield is clicking…I suppose he could give the Toddfather a break….but still

as Phillips was called up this time over Bellorin. So…back up catching order seems right now to be Phillips over Bellorin. Can’t imagine the Rox keeping them both.

I was dreading the day that the rockies would actually lose. While I now question if they will ever lose again, the little voice in the back of mind tells me they will have to. Eventually.

And I hope it is not this day.

Feels almost like a trap, doesn't it?

Almost too good with our ace going against their emergency spot starter guy. Us with the big winning streak, them with the mini-losing streak. I’ve got an uneasy feeling about it for some reason.

Pitchers are voted on by the players.

There’s no way the players are going to vote for Jason Marquis.

by Greg Stanwood on Jun 23, 2009 8:41 PM MDT up reply actions

Do they dislike him?

Otherwise, you gotta think he’ll at least get in as a replacement (due to the growing number of pitchers who don’t participate)

by Bryan Kilpatrick on Jun 23, 2009 8:42 PM MDT up reply actions

No, they don't.

But they don’t just look at records. The ONLY mainstream statistic Marquis is really incredible in is wins.

by Greg Stanwood on Jun 23, 2009 8:44 PM MDT up reply actions

I guess we'll see.

If he makes the team, great. If not, I wouldn’t really consider it a snub. But, I think he gets in, based on the past couple of years of pitchers (or managers making pitchers) backing out of the game.

"What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do." -Bob Dylan

by Bryan Kilpatrick on Jun 23, 2009 8:45 PM MDT up reply actions

I fully admit I may be wrong...

… but to me, it seems astronomically unlikely he makes the team based on his record.

He’s been an All Star for us, but he’s not a Cy Young starter (even though he’s peeking onto some spec lists). With only 14 spots for pitchers (8-9 starters, 4-5 closers/relievers, usually), Marquis is gonna get knocked out.

by Greg Stanwood on Jun 23, 2009 8:47 PM MDT up reply actions

I agree.

Not that he’ll make the team, but that it’s more likely Jimenez makes the team than Marquis. I don’t think either does.

Between innings chatter.....

My baseball road trip is almost at hand! Heading out on friday w/my 13 year old son and I can say that I’ll be proud to sport the purple & black wherever I go.

Here’s our itinerary:

1. Lincoln Salt Dogs vs Sioux Falls @ Lincoln, NE
2. Omaha royals vs Albuquerque Isotopes @ Omaha
3. St Louis vs San Fran @ Busch
4. Negro League Hall of Fame, Kansas City
5. Kansas City vs Minnesota @ Kauffman
6. Wichita Wingnuts vs Sioux falls @ Wichita

Lots of driving, lots of midwestern heat and lots of baseball. I’m looking forward to the third part, at least. :)

Anyone got some must-see sights for St. L and KC?

My favorite Rockie? Why, Ty Van Burkleo, of course!
