Pinto got a George Scott
Calcaterra updated the entry to say that Dave Pinto of Baseball Musings got a George Scott…so they smell viral marketing for yet another Sox Yankees book. I hope it’s not that dumb.
So, probably no Gamble, but there could well be a Gossage out there.
Free Seth Smith!
too bad
Nobody got an Oscar Gamble with the big ’fro card, but those are actually worth a buck or two I think
But if some one wanted to send Yankees stuff to a Rockies blog, wouldn’t they send Hall of Famer and Colorado Springs native Goose Gossage card?

He said "hurm."
What a nerd.
But it’s just the card you got? Nothing crazy with it, like say the eyes cut out, and when you place it over John 3:16 and write down the letters it reveals the results of the next 5 World Series?
Listen, this signature line is a big part of who I am.

I know this is OT...
Does anyone else use Google Chrome? For the last week it has given me malware warnings about any Denver Post site. Has anyone had any issues with the DP site? I love Chrome and it works well. I don’t get warnings for any other site I frequent.
I had a difficult time doing the Rockpile yesterday because of the warnings.
I had some earlier in the year as well from the DP, I’m not sure if it’s a Chrome issue or a DP one, however.
I like Chrome a lot better, but had to do the Rockpile out of Firefox yesterday
Chrome has this array of frequently visited sites when you open a generic new tab, for instance, that’s pretty helpful for blogging.
I have a Most Visited tab in Firefox...

It's an add-on, though, not an auto feature
I think a couple of their recent features, like auto search when you type something besides a URL in the URL box were added after Chrome beat them to the punch. It’s great they’re competing like that, though, as it makes browsing better in general.
Ya and anything is better then IE
Why people still use IE is boyond me.
I just looked, and it doesn’t seem that Google has released Chrome for Macs yet. :(

No, no!!
…If Redhawk’s got the Dogs as the favourite for the WC, it can only mean he sees us winning the West…!
I know
That’s a pretty aggressive stance there…a pointed stance just in time for any Dodger lurkers with the upcoming series

I just read that chat.
Relevant questions (from here):
John (Nashville, TN): The Rockies have now won 20/23…Rock-une just doesn’t have the same ring as Rock-tober did. Can they keep it up? Or are they just playing over there heads a bit while the rest of the NL leaders have fallen back to the pack? And I know one series really doesn’t mean much, but how important is it for Colorado to take 2/3 from LA starting tonight to “validate” their hot June?
Buster Olney:
John: I had a longtime evaluator tell me last night that the Rockies are two middle relievers away from being the best team in the NL — they’ve got a deep lineup (since Tulowitzki started hitting), a solid rotation (Aaron Cook could be the pitcher of the month in the NL), an excellent bench, and Huston Street has settled in as closer.
Ryan (Colorado): How high does Atkins avg need to be so the Rockies can get something of value for him?
Buster Olney:
Ryan: He’s got to hit for a few more weeks to rebuild his value, but I can tell you some scouts saw him over the weekend and were impressed.
Brian (Chicago, IL): Atkins would be good insurance for A-Rod, don’t you think?
Buster Olney:
Brian — expensive, though. The Yankees, believe it or not, feel like they have maxed out on their spending for 2009. (That could change, of course…)
I already posted this in another thread before I got to this one.
But the Bucky Dent mystery has apparently been solved.
It's sort of funny how people were getting up in arms about how lame of a viral marketing publicity stunt it was...
Such as Calcatarra himself in the original thread, but then once they discovered it’s for a book by a blogger we all know and respect, it’s like “Sweet promotion, man…”
Seriously, though, it makes perfect sense for Wilker’s book, but why on earth would they send Bucky Dent to a Rockies blogger?
Agreed, much more apropos would have been some old cardboard featuring all the Rox coaching staff...
…..especially if it included a nice Baylor, Dac, & Hill
Also, glad to see my boy P Phillips getting some respect (and deservedly so)
Now, only if Barmes could generate some buzz on the national baseball scene my anti-Rox conspiracy theory would be absolved.

Nature of Cardboard Gods, I guess?
It’s one thing for that sort of campaign to be kicked off a major publisher for yet another Yankees-Red Sox book by the overpaid, underresearched NY or Boston sportswriter expected to go with it. But in Wilker’s case, a baseball card makes some sense.
That Wilker is presumably “just” a blogger probably helps a little.
But yes, why a Dent card. It would have been a kick to send instead a David Nied card, or a Galarraga card, or even a Kevin Reimer card.
