Fangraphs comparison shows Hawpe to be better than McLouth

The only thing McLouth may have going for him is that he’s two years younger. I would certainly hope we could get more than the Pirates got. Especially considering the year Brad’s having.

Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for too many men on the field?

McLouth also has very good speed and defense

A Gold Glover vs a huge liability, and a guy leading the majors in SB%age the last 3+ years vs a guy who can’t run at all. Hawpe is hitting for a better average and has more power potential, but McLouth has more shiny tools. It’s a little hard to compare, but this trade does affect the Rockies. One possible trade partner for Hawpe is out.

Nononono

McLouth’s GG was absolutely retarded. Terrible. Awful.

McLouth was like -1.5 wins in CF his defense so bad.

He made a lot of diving plays and stuff which made everyone think “OMG SO GOOD” where a real CF makes that play on his feet.

Hey I didn't say he earned it

but a GG probably carries some weight with FO’s, earned or not, and regardless, he’s still significantly better defensively than Hawpe.

One less trading partner

Is probably the bigger issue. I mentioned in a thread yesterday that we needed to trade Hawpe sooner rather than later for this exact reason.

I love being ahead of the curve...

as I called Hawpe’s contract an albatross and demanded a trade more than a month back.

I guess that's what happens

when it is publicly known the FO is in love with one player. They’ve wanted Gorkys
