Wow, that's scary.
Glad to hear that the younger Torrealba is safe and sound.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.

Whoa, that is scary.
Wow, glad everyone’s safe.

Yikes
It’s official: everything that has happened since Rocktober has been the biggest karmic retribution ever. Slumps and injuries, yeah, I get that, but kids getting kidnapped? That’s just awful.

I'm still more than half convinced
we took out the biggest karma loan EVER for that month, and in consequence are effectively screwed for about the next ten years. You’d think for that, they could have at least let us beat the damn Red Sox.
Still, not to make light of a very serious situation. I imagine that was one of the worst feelings any parent could ever experience.

I didn't mean to make light either
There have been a lot of unfortunate things to happen to our players, but most of them relate to things like underperformance and trips to the disabled list, which are inconsequential when compared to the fear for your child’s life.

Oh, I didn't think you were making light of it
I was just hoping that no one would take my comment that way.

When are these South/Central American Countries going to get it together?
Kidnapping is a huge issue in many of these places. I remember the Nuggets center Nene talking about the threat of his family getting kidnapped in Brazil. I’m glad the police recovered his child, but I’m not visiting these places until things improve over there.

When there is an end
to the disparity from the hand full of rich and the mass of crushing poverty.
Healthy and safe places have a successful middle class. And most of those place don’t have that.
Now if you can figure out a solution you will be one of the smartest person in the last 100 years.

It's not just that
The international drug trade has a lot to do with it as well, though I doubt that is a factor with Yorvit.

no kidding
my wife’s family has a gorgeous place on the beach near Rosarito, Mex, which is a short morning drive from my house (through Tijuana, of course)…and we haven’t been in nearly two years.
Thank God for Yorvit’s son’s recovery. Really, that stuff is terrifying in general, but as a new father I literally can’t imagine anything worse.

No kidding
Don’t recall ever being so stunned by a headline. Especially on the Row.
I am grateful that the kid is back home.
So. When is enough enough?

As a Father of three I can say that is the most frightening thing that can happen to a person.
I’m so glad his child is ok.

Putting aside the horror of abducted children
and I’m picturing Yorvit with a bandanna and bowie knife and camo pants and swinging into action all commando like and kicking copious amounts of ass.

Thank God for this
I can’t fathom what was going through the families minds when they found out. I’m also glad they were recovered without paying the ransom, because that is just a cheap shot at Yorvit.
When do you think we can expect him back?

That is horrible, but I'm glad that every Torrealba is back safe and sound.
When are these places going to get a slap in the face big enough to do something more about this?

Make security around those upper middle class places tighter, would be a start
maybe Yorvit isn’t living in a nice, gated, multi million dollar mansion, but he sure isn’t living in a slum, either.
and I’m not saying the rich deserve better treatment/protection, but you know that they’re going to be targeted more often, so that the kidnappers get more $$$$.
They could also, for more lower class people, start something like a Boys and Girls Club, or build a secure park or something.
It’s all easier said than done, I know, but I’m not seeing that many steps towards improvement. Maybe if I lived there, I would. I’m just saying, based on what I hear in the news and such, it’s not getting any better.

What would be required, though?
Do you know that they’ve not increased security? How much do the guards and people working at institutions make? And unless you have loyal bodyguards covering people, there’s always an opportunity to grab someone if there is financial incentive. In a particular family’s case, wouldn’t it be up to the family to arrange for such bodyguards, e.g., Torrealba would have to pay for it?

Finance over there was something that I wanted to adress in my last post,
but I’m not sure what they could do.
Maybe, the U.N. could help out somehow, but the way the economy is going, the U.S., along with many other countries, are in no position to do that.
You know how so many charities and fundraisers are going towards people in Africa? Well, maybe some more should start being towards improving South America’s security. It might take away a little from the amount that people in Aftrica recieve, but people in South America are people just as much as the people in Africa are.
I don’t know, this is all getting very complicated. Once again, easier said than done.

many of these abductions
are inside jobs, family, friends and “paid security” often involved. there is not an easy solution to this.

Ack, I'm so glad everything seems to be okay now.
When we first heard about Yorvit leaving and there were no hints about the reason, kidnapping was the first thing that popped into my mind, but I didn’t really think that’s what it was. I’m pretty sure I even suggested the possibility somewhere. I’m so glad all appears to be well now. How scary.

In that case....
I give the Rockies a huge pass for the way they’ve played the past few games. If I had a team mate dealing with that, the last thing on my mind would be a baseball game.
Man, I’m glad this turned out OK.
My favorite Rockie? Why, Ty Van Burkleo, of course!

So
Any word on when Yorvit will be returning to the team?
by Tom (RFTN) on Jun 4, 2009 1:09 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
According to the Post,
Yorvit’s planning to bring his family to the States tomorrow, as he should, and spend some time with them, also as he should, before probably rejoining the club in Milwaukee.
I love Greg Reynolds. Deal with it, suckers.
