I want

Who are you rooting for, Rowbots?
Russ likes Mauer. RMN has a big mancrush on Pujols. I’m pulling for Pujols and Adrian Gonzalez, my keeper league MVP.

I'm rooting for Gonzalez
For a couple reason. First, because he’s an NL guy. Second, because of the charity think for all his home runs. Also, because I like it when lesser known guys pull off surprise wins.
I put my poll vote for Inge because he's the underdog
but I totally pick, and want, A.Gonzalez to win this. Pujols is a very close second. Howard needs to be gone in the first round.

Not sure why…hunch I guess. Though he is incredibly strong. He left an impression on me in Tucson.

This just in
Todd Helton’s 2000th hit (and Jason Kendall’s) don’t count.
Jonathan Papelbon’s Red Sox record setting save, however, does.

Apparently they don’t think 2000 hits is a milestone. I don’t think I saw any Rockies in their 1st half highlight package.

Ubaldo's pitches enforce a lot of groundballs
and generally speaking, it’s just plain hard to have contact off him, and most of it is weak anyways.

Something about
Elastic collisions…? Something like that, energy transfer, combines the speed of the ball and bat
by ShadowPenguin on Jul 13, 2009 7:02 PM MDT up reply actions
Well, you still have to make good contact.
It’s still true that all else being equal (bat speed, contact point, etc.), a faster pitch is going to go farther faster than a slower pitch

Is it just me
Or do they need to do more derbys (derbies?) with seats and things to hit in the outfield? Kinda boring when most of it is just one set of beachers.
The HR derby just isn't competitive enough.
There really needs to be something on the line. How about if home field advantage is decided by the HR derby?

I grew up cheering for the Cardinals and Tigers
until the Rockies came into existence. My dad is a big Tigers fan (from Michigan) and I just like the red uniforms. My brother is a Dodgers fan though so this season has been tough to listen to him taunting me.

So how were you persuaded to cheer for the Rox?
Did you live in Colorado during expansion or what?

I went to a game that first season
in Montreal, but there were many Rockies fans there and I sat in a section full of them. I think that only reinforced the love for the Rox that I still have. they always have been an exciting team to watch… especialy in the early days of Coors and the Blake Street bombers.
by realmenwearpurple on Jul 13, 2009 8:48 PM MDT up reply actions
I have a couple cousins who are Rockies fans for similar reasons.
But they did have us relatives there (and probably went to a game when they visited), and their dad grew up in Colorado. But neither of them have ever lived there.
lol, my friends and classmates just think I'm wierd for it
but they accepted it eventually

They knew I was weird before
but they are still friends, just not to talk to about baseball. Most people here will only spout off what they heard on ESPN that morning/night.
by realmenwearpurple on Jul 13, 2009 8:27 PM MDT up reply actions
my classmates are either Red Sox fans/ hate baseball.
I just don’t wear Rockies stuff/ talk about it infront of them. That’s why I love Purple Row so much.
The main reason they think I'm wierd is because I root for a Colorado team in New York
My friends aren’t big fans, they’re music nerds :P

I have always been a big fan of baseball
but there is so much that I never heard of until recently that I have completely relearned what I thought I knew. I played for 12 years, and umpired for 5 years so I know the rules and how it is played well. I have loved stats for years, but sabermetrics is all new.
by realmenwearpurple on Jul 13, 2009 8:32 PM MDT up reply actions
It's not that weird.
I’ve lived in Queens, NY my entire life and follow the Rockies.

Even with some of my friends that are baseball fans
sometimes I find that I know more about their team than they even do. Last week, I saw my friend who is a big Mariners fan. I mentioned that I saw the M’s signed their supplemental 1st round pick. He said, “Really? That’s cool.”

How did he and Berman decide
that Cruz and Fielder were not quite into the second round while Mauer was batting, only Pujols remained, and the two of them were tied for the lead?
They are both idiots. We’re probably all better off to remember that the rest of the evening.
And maybe it’s just me, but I find Morgan to be, by far, the less irritating of the two. But then, I loathe Berman only slighly less than I loathe giving up 10 run innings to the Pirates

Two hours between swings really hurt.
Then again, Fielder was right after him each time, so he had the same layoff. I’m not surprised it hurt Cruz more though. He seemed to need a rhythm more

Me too, he would have been my second or third choice with Pena
I just thought too much pressure on Pujols that it made it sort of obvious he wouldn’t win. Howard’s got too many pop-ups in him and the others weren’t really mashers.
Agreed
My hierarchy pre-derby was Cruz/Pena/Fielder/Gonzalez/Pujols/Howard/Mauer/Inge
