Spilborghs to Philly? Not a rumor yet....
Rumor has it Philly has interest in sending Kyle Kendrick to Washington for Josh Willingham.........why in the world the Rockies wouldn't offer up Ryan Spilborghs to get Kendrick is beyond me. It would be a better fit for both teams as well.
The move may not improve the MLB roster immediately but it would be an upgrade move for us. At some point we would have a AAA rotation that included Kendrick, Brandon Hynick, Greg Smith and Greg Reynolds.
Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

Wouldn't Spilly
be just as redundant in Philly?
Errr, that didn’t actually mean to rhyme.

Yes,
Let’s trade a valuable reserve outfielder and chemistry guy in the clubhouse to bolster our AAA rotation. Wonderful idea.

Kendrick sucks
I would’ve traded Baker for him, but Spilborghs? Absolutely not. I might be overvaluing him, but a batter with good plate discipline, triples speed, and average CF defense and ++ defense in the corners is worth a lot more than Kyle “Lousy and can’t get Major League Batters out” Kendrick.

I think there was a Rosenthal note a few days ago
that stated the Rockies turned down two pretty decent prospects for Spilly in a trade with the Phils. I’d have been interested to know which prospects were supposedly in the deal, but if the Rox do decide to trade Ryan, I think it should be in a deal for bullpen help.
That was an interesting note indeed
Especially when you consider how Philly’s farm system shapes up, with about ten decent names and then a steep cliff afterwards. Donald and Happ? Marson and something? I the Rockies were offered either Donald or Marson, that trade looks more interesting.
I would without a doubt...
…trade Spilly for either “Marson and something” or “Donald and something” without hesitation. Granted, I have no idea where Donald would fit on our team, but we’d have 2 good utilities in EY2/Barmes/Donald (whoever isn’t playing 2nd), I guess. That being said, Marson would make more sense for the Rocks, but make less sense for the Phils (I can’t imagine him not being one of their 2 catchers next year)…
I’m sorry but Spilborghs is not a huge part of this team anymore……..he is a bench guy and a role player……Matt Murton could fill his role.
The point isn’t to bolster the minors, the point would be because EVERY year the Rockies need another starter and every year the only place we typically could get what we need is via trade. I would like to get us in position that we didn’t need to trade for pitching constantly.
Facts are facts……….Barmes is likely to be traded in the offseason as well and more than likely Hawpe will not be a Rockie in 2010…………face it.
Why?
We’re doing really well, and it looks like we’re at a good place to start filtering talent in and out. Our pitching is young and good, and Hawpe is gonna be the veteran mainstay when Helton is gone. Barmes leaving, sure, maybe, but he has good value to this team.
What facts are we missing here? Because Kendrick is still garbage and even in a drastically reduced role, Spilborghs is worth more than him.

I think this guy's post was actually written on July 1st and it got stuck in some sort of time warp.
Facts are facts… Kyle Kendrick sucks, and the minor league pitching pipeline is so strong right now that another fungible fifth-starter type are not anything even approaching a priority. And Brad Hawpe ain’t going anywhere. Face it.

Umm wtf?
I LOL’d at this comment..it’s such nonsense. Brad Hawpe won’t be a Rockie in 2010? LOL!! He signed through 2011 and he’s been our clutchest player. Spilly brings CHEMISTRY to this team..he’s always in the middle of guys making them laugh and getting things in the clubhouse cheery. He doesn’t complain about his role. Trading him for Kendrick is crazy.

Kendrick is not great, but I wouldn’t say he is garbage by any means. And even if he is……Jason Marquis was the Cubs garbage last season!!
Spilborghs for Kendrick may not be perfect but we need to move players like that to continue to improve the club. Do you realize it has been nearly a month since he got a start?
Don’t get me wrong if we could send Spilborghs to somewhere like Tampa and get a Wade Davis or Jeremy Hellickson out of them I would be elated!!!! I just don’t count on that happening.
Spilly is available
but a trade needs to make the Rockies better. Kendrick for Spilly does not. Matt Miller for Kendrick would be a much more equal trade.
