Game #100: Jason Marquis vs. Mike Pelfrey
Colorado Rockies at New York Mets, Jul 28, 2009 5:10 PM MDT
The Rockies (54-45) look to bounce back from a tough loss last night against the Mets at Citi Field. Here's hoping that Jason Marquis can carry the game all the way to Huston Street, as he's been accustomed to doing in quite a few instances this season. At the very least, let's not allow Juan Rincon to enter the game, eh guys?

Sounds ridiculous
but MUST win tonight for me…don’t want to go into tomorrow’s game down 0-2 in series vs Santana…also just winning alone gets that 2-19 bla bla cursed in NY bla bla out of the way….do it tonight guys….Go Rockies!

Agree feels like a must win ...
Even though it really isn’t a must win, to keep up the momentum I agree it does feel like one. Always good to wash out the bad taste of a loss.

Yes it is practically a must win
And that lineup we’re throwing out should get the job done, plus Marquis. Come on Rockies, don’t let us down again.

Marquis is the stopper
that will get the rox back in the win column and they have had a day to adjust being away from Blake St.
Mission 40W?
To borrow from an old Avs playoff motto, I figure we need 40 wins to ensure a playoff spot. Lets knock it down to 39 tonight!
I think it's only 37 wins, actually.
None of the other wild card contenders are very likely to hit 91.
yea i was guessing earlier about
88-91 wins would take the WC most likely…

I love Spilly
And I admit I was a little peed off when Hurdle gave the starting CF job to Fowler very early. But Spilly hasn’t done much this season sadly.
by CentralCaliRox on Jul 28, 2009 4:33 PM MDT up reply actions
Ryan was probably peed too
He probably thought that he would start in LF or CF all season. He hasn’t adjusted well to the PH role since being removed from starting role. Maybe he should get a shot at a regular starting job again now that we are in the thick of it. Gonzales should platoon with Dex and Ryan based on his performance the last month.
Ryan was never
an everyday starter he isn’t good in that role lol

Smith .411

I've been twice, with very contrasting experiences.
The first time was awesome and fun. The second time it was really windy. It would have still been okay except that my siblings and I were wearing shorts, and there was some water we had to walk through to get to the dunes. Now let me tell you, blowing sand hitting wet skin stings like a mother. We had to flee back to our van while my mom and dad (who were both wearing long pants) climbed around for a bit.
Ouch. I can imagine that the wind and a lot of sand would not be a good combo

so if you score a ball off a fielder’s glove/body, as in that 1-4-3 play to end the inning, does that imply Marquis gets an assist? If so, that seems wrong.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Yup, if it touches a player and a put out is recorded, they get an assist.

Where is Redhawk
to point out (correctly) how sometimes a walk is NOT as good as a hit? Whatever, come on Barmes.
i seem to think
somebody made that point in the big long thread the other day.
I'm not sure if anybody would ever claim that.
Well, other than the point Holly makes below. What we do say is that a walk’s always preferable to an out.
He means..
that sometimes it’s better for a “hitter” to take a hack and drive the ball rather than to take the walk and let mr .231 try and hit. Not all hitters are created equal.

Iannetta's Mr. what when he takes his hacks?
Look, I can see some merit to this argument if you’re Pablo Sandoval and the Giants are your teammates, but a walk even in that case will always be preferable to an out.
I trust Barmes swinging the bat over..
a pitcher. But Iannetta’s strength is definetely better at getting on base, his contact rate isn’t too good.

we're not playing well enough to win
but its hard to play 9 against 10 like this. Another example of why the whole “human error” argument is so dumb. Good job Trace getting tossed, if only not to have to watch this butchery anymore.
Am I the only one that is infuriated with this umpiring crew?
Seriously, that’s two nights in a row that the stupidity has been intolerable.
nope....they are making me bananas....

But it’s one of the few such terms that I do (though I wish I didn’t).
I really can't wait
