The Yankees have taken Hirsh off us, it's not clear what for yet.

Additionally, the Yankees have released veteran pitcher Brett Tomko.

It's thought that this is simply a depth move; perhaps AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will do something to help rejuvenate Jason Hirsh.

I always liked Hirsh.

I was at the game where his leg was broken by a line-drive.

I feel fairly confident that the PTBNL is Teixeira. Knowing the Yankees, it’d be a salary dump move. Just can’t get ’em to spend any money!

Same.

It was weird that the games I watched where he pitched always seemed to be against the Padres, and he always did really well in those.

I was bummed that he never got on track after the broken leg.

I liked Hirsh

and thought he had a pretty good career ahead of him when we got him in that trade. I’ve always been rooting for him to make a return. Although it’s entirely possible that I only liked him because he liked wearing the purple jerseys and usually always chose them.

PTBNL - Montero?

Are you sure it’s not Montero? That would be just the thing we need to light a fire under Iannetta!

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

I was there too

That was one courageous performance. Sorry he never bounced back — thought he could be a nice back of the rotation starter. Best of luck to him…..

Pretty sure

we are also going to send them info on how to install a Humidor to cut down on the home runs there.

Don’t the Yankees still have a Molina? I want my own Molina

i liked hirsh too

And I didn’t give up the idea that he would – not could – return to be a strong #4 pitcher for us. Well, until the way he performed this season in AAA. He doesn’t have anymore excuses – his time has passed and he didn’t really have a future here

look at Chacon's first season with the Yankees

and then you’ll see what i mean. Yeah, it ends up sucking later, but it gets him some time in the spotlight :)

Esp. if Hirsh goes on the Aaron Small/Shawn Chacon Improbable Run of Excellence.

Kinda bummed about Hirsh

Things should have gone differently for him. He had a good frame, good stuff, and was a really intelligent guy who knew how to pitch. Unfortunately, once that shoulder starts to go, there’s no getting it all back.

I was at the broken leg game too – that was his last start for us, wasn’t it? Or did he make a start in September last year?

I hope he makes it back to the bigs in some capacity.

Yank's DL

Anyone know if Marte or Wang are coming off the DL soon causing a roster issue.

Hirsh would be clear to go to AAA while we get who ever’s booted from the Yanks 40 man. Of course that means we would need to make a move ourselves. Wouldn’t break my heart to see Rincon go.

Alright

Yahoo reported last week that Marte was rehabing at AAA and should be ready to come off the DL this week.

Question

Someone left this comment after the article reporting the trade: “A lot of Hirsh’s problems stem from the fact that he pitches in the PCL and that he’s been pissed at the Rockies organization for a couple of years now. I could see him making a turnaround now that he’s switching places.”

Is he just talking out his hindquarters? Anyone ever heard this before?

by DomCasual on Jul 31, 2009 4:25 PM MDT reply actions

I've never heard such an assertation before

Pitching in the PCL, and specifically Security Service Field, is certainly a hindrance to pitching success, so that claim is valid. But Hirsh has no reason to be pissed at the Rockies. He was hurt and then pitched like crap from then on. He could have earned a spot – he just didn’t perform.
