Rox gear, a Hip Hop fashion?

I'm a long time reader of Purple Row. I decided to ask here to get answer to my question. Im a big time rox fan and a baseball fan. I live in Jacksonville Florida, so Seeing Rox gear worn by anyone until recently was an extremely rare sight.  Lids stores in the area do not stock Rox authentic Ball caps because who will buy them.i get mine preorded or online.  But lately, both my wife and I have seen an increase of Rox authentic caps . Now I know winning does wonder's for a baseball team. but I doubt our recent streak and the 2007 run would induce popularity of Rox gear in this area of the country. Is there a popular rapper from Denver wearing rox gear that  I don't know about? if not I hope this fad goes away Quickly, so I can go back to being the only one in Jax "reppin" the Rox.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

I have noticed this in NYC as well

I will be randomly standing on the corner and see some dude wearing a Rockies hat who is definitely not a baseball fan. I remember going into the New Era store a while back and they mentioned that there were some kicks with a similar color scheme that the purple billed hat matched perfectly.

I know someone

who does that with five of the teams.

Its very simple

Does the Rockies hat match the sneakers/laces? If so, they’re probably not wearing the hat to rep the Rockies. If the hat doesn’t blatantly match anything else, then they’re probably a Rockies fan…

The Rockies need some oldschool purple/white striped high socks. The team’s problem is it’s lack of swagger. I feel strongly that these socks will provide the swagger necessary to tap the potential that are the Rockies.

Pretty much spot on

Purple is a dope color, so rocking it in correlation with other stuff is pretty solid. You gotta be fly from the lid to the kicks

What i think is stranger, and awesomer is the large amount of flat brimmed New Era Montreal Expos hats. Hard to consider them as a hip hop fashion, because its white kids in boulder who wear em, but its hilarious none the less.

Purple is a dope colo

I don’t speak give, but….This is why the Rockies need to wear their purple caps and their purple jerseys (hopefully not at the same time mind you)!

I remember that

Which is why it always cracks me up when the Rockies wear the red hats.

Speaking of Red Caps

Both Matt Daley and Carlos Gonzalez told me on Sunday (autograph day) that they were not fans of wearing the caps during the game. Daley didn’t like them at all while Carlos thought they looked okay but they didn’t go with the uniforms.

What really bothered me

was seeing the D’Backs wear them, since the red on the hats didn’t match the red on their unis.

C'mon now.

Better to match your uniform, or be patriotic?

Well?

If it’s a patriotic hat, it has to match the flag, not Sedona!

Hopefully...

…most of the people who wore those hats for those reasons are no longer in gangs.

The optimist in me hopes that they grew out of it. The pessimist in me thinks a lot of them probably left through less positive means.

I recall that when the Rockies

introduced their caps in 1991, it quickly became a favorite of wannabe gangbangers.

Purple is the best color

And once it catches on, it just kind of sticks. Remember when Reds hats were all the rage a year or two ago?

Say what you will about the

prevalence of Rockies hats on non-Rockies fans but, like 2 or 3 years ago, you couldn’t even find Rockies hats in like a Lids. The emphasis on matching a fitted with sneakers helped open up the market…

its interesting you say that

when back seeing family in the nyc area over the xmas holidat lasy year, I saw tons of rox hats in the nyc area, I was shocked. most of them purple ones…

I'm pretty sure I saw one recently, too.

I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now that you mention this, he didn’t look like someone who would be a baseball/Rockies fan, especially not in Giants territory. Definitely could have a been a hip-hop/matching thing.

Not available in purple, I take it?

I enjoy rocking the purple Rockies hat almost as much as I enjoy rocking my outrageously garish orange Chicago Bears hat. As they say, purple is a dope color :)

I am an embarrassingly-passionate Broncos fan.

When they switched to predominantly orange, it took a little getting used to. But speaking for me only, I can say with a certainty that it’s caused me to buy LOTS more Bronco stuff. That orange was nice from a standpoint of tradition. But it made you look like a traffic cone, every time you wore it.

Uniform redesigns

always boost sales…can’t be seen with the old crap….until several years later then, it’s cool and retro and old school.

In fact there for awhile baseball was pushing teams to redesign their uniforms and colors to boost sales. You had the Astros, Rays, D-Backs, Toronto, Texas all have changes. MLB also requires teams to have more than one hats as well, with a couple of exceptions (Yankees for one)

I was wearing a BP D-Rays hat all last year..

Not as a fashion statement, but because I got it week 3 of the season.
