I've been watching MLB for the past couple of weeks
Never again will I waste my time watching ESPN in a vain attempt to see any decent coverage from the Rockies games. Their documentaries and “year in baseball” specials are interesting, too.

I know, I know, I know. He needs work. He hasn’t worked in awhile. But I am a firm believer in not bringing your closer in unless you’re only up 2 runs or less. It’s not their mindset, it’s not how they operate. They rely on the pressure-packed situations, not 10 run leads.
I kinda saw this coming.
You can’t really expect a closer to come in with any fire in a blowout.

Totally different point, but a close situation is 3 runs, I believe.
So I think you’ll at least have to up your threshold, as that’s what all managers are going to do.
Also, I’d rather have a closer be a tad unsuccessful in a game like this than be rusty in a close game. Someone would have to do some kind of study to determine if a closer gets less effective the less often he gets put in a game (assuming that he’s not going too often). Because I feel like the answer would probably be less.

Street’s performance and others around the league completely, vehemently disagree with you, thanks for enlightening me baseball man! It’s not even that big of a deal, I just don’t see how anyone could argue putting in your closer w/ more than a 3 run lead. It’s ridiculous. I don’t care at all how big a lead the team has. Closers are not used to those situations. They don’t perform as well. It is a fact.

It's not so much about what the closer does in that game
but about not having him rusty in the next game where it is his situation. I think you underestimate the importance of a pitcher getting work often enough (and I don’t know exactly what that frequency should be, but managers do, and they’ll use a pitcher in a game like this if they think he needs work). But clearly we’re all set in our opinions, so it’s no point arguing any more.
I'm not even really arguing about tonight specifically.
So he was more than a tad unsuccessful. I chose the wrong word. Not my point.
I don’t know what the exact number of days should be (and that’s the manager’s job, I guess), but you’re not going to convince me that if a team goes a really long time without facing a close situation (whether it’s because they’re losing or because they’re winning by more than 3), it’s not important to get the closer some game time.

But it might not be good to pull him too quickly either. He needs to relocate the strike zone and get some outs.
