Purps Discussion

I was looking through the Rocks minor league stats and came up with a rough list of prospects to consider for the next revision of the Top 30 Purps.  For discussion sake, I was wondering if I was missing anyone that is a definite must have on the list.  Or is there someone on the list who's beyond being a prospect or has a glaring hole that I'm not aware of?

Nice collection of talent we have assembled over the last few years.  I'm totally stoked over who we have in the pipeline to continue building upon.

Alphabetically

  1. Alberto Alburquerque
  2. Nolan Arenado
  3. Chris Balcom-Miller
  4. Charlie Blackmon
  5. Rex Brothers
  6. Jhoulys Chacin
  7. Jared Clark
  8. Sam Deduno
  9. Brandon Durden
  10. Christian Friedrich
  11. Hector Gomez
  12. Darin Holcomb
  13. Ethan Hollingsworth
  14. Brandon Hynick
  15. Kent Matthes
  16. Tyler Matzek *
  17. Mike McKenry
  18. Chris Nelson
  19. Ben Paulsen
  20. Chaz Roe
  21. Esmil Rogers
  22. Kiel Roling
  23. Wilin Rosario
  24. Charlie Ruiz
  25. Aaron Weatherford
  26. Casey Weathers
  27. Keith Weiser
  28. Joey Williamson
  29. Tim Wheeler
  30. Eric Young, Jr.
  31. Mike Zuanich

I'd probably look at Escalona and Matt Reynolds as ahead of Joey Williamson,

Among potential relievers down the road. You’re also missing Delta Cleary and Scott Robinson for sure, and are probably writing off Tyler Massey too soon.

Cleary and Nicasio are massive omits

And I think we’ve seen enough of Durden’s career to put him on the back burner. There isn’t much behind that ERA.

Nevermind

For some reason he isn’t listed in B-R.com, but is listed on MILB.com. Definate oversight.

Geez

I took a quick glance and didn’t immediately notice the fact that it was alphabetical (yeah, in spite of the fact that you point it out). I was stunned to see Chacin checking in at #6 :)

SRSLY

It was one bad outing, I mean, give the guy a break, he was probably nervous, his entire extended family was probably watching via satellite and…oh.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

Rob Scahill

is also worth a look… nice K rate and groundball rate, albeit in short-season ball. He’s had probably the third-best debut of our 2009 draft pitchers, after Balcom-Miller and Brothers.

Thanks for the 411

Just curious – who in the organization like Durden has been around long enough to know that they aren’t going anywhere?

Guys who looked good and in the end aren’t going to pan out.

Really hope

Kiel Roling lowers his strikeout rate. Sooner or later his BABIP is going to come down from .400 and it’s not going to be pretty.

The Rockies need some oldschool purple/white striped high socks. The team’s problem is it’s lack of swagger. I feel strongly that these socks will provide the swagger necessary to tap the potential that are the Rockies.

Parker Frazier

I think that he still belongs in the top 30, as well

Keith Weiser 1 overall

the guy’s a gamer, and I have this irrational interest in him.

You'd probably lose it if you saw him enough.

The curve can be pretty when it comes in breaking late at 68 mph, but the fringy 86-88 mph fastball leaves you wanting much more. I’d still call him a prospect, but not one of our Top 30, and is probably in the wrong organization. Elsewhere, he’s probably reach the show.

I have this irrational interest in him.

Doesn’t matter where his fringy fastball is. For some unexplained reason, I think he’s the man

/crosses arms indignantly.
