Rockies 8, Pirates 0: Ubaldo Jimenez dominates Pirates as offense kicks into high gear
I found this game boring despite the outcome and performances. Maybe because it came against the Pirates, whom the Rockies should beat like this.
Ubaldo Jimenez, despite four walks, struck out six over eight innings and allowed only three hits. He had the best WPA in this game: .341.
Carlos Gonzalez started the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning. And then, lo and behold, Clint Barmes had a hit that drove in a run, and it wasn't on a homer (it was a single). He'd repeat this feat in the sixth with an RBI double. Troy Tulowitzki started that inning off with a triple and scored on a Hawpe double. Not to be out done, Chris Iannetta hit a two-run double in the seventh, which was immediately followed by a Ryan Spilborghs RBI double.
All is well again.

and all starters under 5.00 era
and three are under 4.00.
Are these the bizarro Rockies pitchers?
"If you're going to be stupid, you'd better be tough."
Humidor
It really helps when your home park boosts offense by 14% or so rather than 40-50%.
Even when considering park-adjusted ERA’s, Hampton and Kile were much better pitchers after they left the Rockies.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

Jimenez
He’s really been on a role since that unsettling April when he walked 17 in 19 innings.
Since May 1:
9-6, 139.1 innings, 20 starts, 2.91 ERA, 3.04 R/9, 2.97 BB/9, 7.8 SO/9. 0.52 HR/9. Excellent numbers.
Oddly, the team is only 10-10 in these starts.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
I'm totally digging that walk rate
Good stuff
The Rockies need some oldschool purple/white striped high socks. The team’s problem is it’s lack of swagger. I feel strongly that these socks will provide the swagger necessary to tap the potential that are the Rockies.
the man is continuing
to impress start after start definitely a future ace

Not necessarily a bad thing when you can make an argument for all but Hammel being "the guy"

and Hammel has some dangerous stuff to work with as well

Went to the game
Lovely night at the ballpark —brought my pops and the rox made up for the last lousy game we attended. It was indeed a good boring but enjoyable kind of game.
Best line of the night: when Lastings Milledge came up for the first time my brother said “Lastings Milledge? I thought the announcer said ’Last names Milledge?” Yes, everyone’s a comedian in my family…
"What I speak out of my mouth is the truth. It burns like fire."
Went to the game with jrockies and coolopotamous...
we enjoyed heckling Milledge from the pavillion in left (not that he heard us), predicting various esoteric aspects of the game, and watching a humdrum demolition of the Pirates. All in all, an excellent evening.
Eschew Obfuscation!
Great way to relax
thanks Jabberwocky and coolopotamous for setting this up.

Did you throw beer on him?
Where was that Cubs fan when Milledge robbed CarGon on Tuesday?
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
I think my favorite was
“Time for Ubaldo to get a hit, so he can get his average back up to where it belongs. Above Barmes’.” Yeah that was awesome.
i guess that pumped Barmes up yesterday
hopefully he heard that and turns it around now haha

He'd have much better numbers if he learned to shut the door with two outs in the inning.
I’d love to know how many runs he’s given up when there were two outs and nobody on base.
Definitely at his worst with 2 outs
