Hah! It's not THAT bad

In 2 weeks time I’m going on holiday to Italy with 9 friends and I’m the only sucker who speaks the language.

by biondino on Aug 13, 2009 2:47 PM MDT up reply actions

But I think you said

something to the effect of “does anyone here speak Italian?”

by Tom (RFTN) on Aug 13, 2009 2:49 PM MDT up reply actions

Basically

I think literally more exactly “Is there anyone who speaks Italian here?”

by holly96 on Aug 13, 2009 2:52 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah

I don’t speak Italian, but French is similar enough that I understand the basic meaning.

by Tom (RFTN) on Aug 13, 2009 2:53 PM MDT up reply actions

I took two years of it in college.

But it’s been forever. I probably can read it a lot better than I could speak it.

by holly96 on Aug 13, 2009 2:54 PM MDT up reply actions

My college didn't even offer Italian.

I think French, German, and Spanish were the only foreign languages offered.

by Tom (RFTN) on Aug 13, 2009 2:55 PM MDT up reply actions

I went to BYU.

Probably the most multilingual college in the country, by far.

by holly96 on Aug 13, 2009 2:56 PM MDT up reply actions

that's pretty cool

I would imagine that your efforts in the language will please the locals.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

by FooMan on Aug 13, 2009 2:49 PM MDT up reply actions

Some places, it does

I’m not sure about Italy, but in France, they don’t appreciate it too much if you try to speak their language and butcher it.

by Tom (RFTN) on Aug 13, 2009 2:50 PM MDT up reply actions

Mi dispiace, ma non comprendo.

But I think you asked something like, “Did you visit Italy, or did you study in school?” I’ve never been, though my dad lived there for two years. I had to study a language for my major, so he convinced me to choose Italian.

Triste.

Voi siete bravi

Mi sono laureato in Italiano (come maggiore; il mio minore era gli studi di film) ma non lo uso quasi mai in questi giorni. Triste pure.

See, I can totally understand you guys when I read it, but I've lost most of my vocabulary.

Mio maggiore e cinema.

Non ho un minore in Italiano, mio minore e filosofia. USC ha un requisito courso in una linga (tre semestre). Cinese era piu dificile, e io ho cambiato a Italiano.

Tough assignment tomorrow

Facing Josh Johnson. We don’t see Nolasco in the series, though.

We get Johnson, VandenHurk, and Volstad.

VandenHurk’s given up 6 HR’s in 26 innings, 5 of them IN San Diego and Washington, both noted home run yards….

I suspect we’ll have a big pitching advantage in games 2 and 3.
