Tyler Matzek mojo changing overflow thread...
Hey, it worked for breaking up Josh Johnson's no hitter...
At any rate, I wanted a new thread to centralize updates a little more, the latest of which is Troy Renck confirming that Matzek did not attend classes today, and that negotiations are ongoing.
Matzek's potential roommate, Jake Marisnick, has signed with Toronto, and as Renck mentions, Shelby Miller's signing with the Cardinals lays a baseline for the remaining high school pitchers.

It's a press release, not press conference.
I would imagine it will come from their site, or someone like Renck might get it before they post it.
Had read "press conference" earlier in the day somewhere.
But you’re right, Renck refers to it as a press release.

This article from Baseball Prospectus is interesting.
Nothing specifically Matzek-related, and just this guys speculation about a shift in team philosophies, but interesting nonetheless. See his comments also.

Yes. We will all go up there
By the Way, if your reading this Tyler, if you sign, your invited down to Windsor (assuming you are playing up in Casper) for a few home brews from Poseidon and myself. We all know they are amazing.
Back when I lived there
Windsor had a restaurant that served Detroit-style Coneys. Still exist? On Main Street pretty close to the HS, I believe.

And if so, are you serious? I lived in Detroit last summer and always wished I had enough time to try all the food. Go to Dearborn, it’s home to the largest Arab-American population in the U.S., and, by proxy, some of the best Middle Eastern food in the U.S.

Just go south 10 minutes
Greeley has several great places, particularly for tasty Mexican food.
There also used to be a Mexican joint up in Windsor. Had a buddy who worked as a waiter there and he usually brought home food and booze from work. Don’t know the name of it, but they have some really nice tequila…

This is probably no surprise to anyone, but Keith Law is on ESPNRadio right now
and said he’s hearing that the commissioners office is holding up a bunch of signings (probably more of the later 1st round or subsequent round picks) where deals are pretty much in place, so a slew of reports will come in during the last half hour before the deadline.
I'm betting that Pearson's deal is among those being held up.
A pretty good source is indicating that he will be announced tonight.

He could have.
And I can’t remember his exact wording now, but at the time my impression was that he wasn’t really referring to the top picks. But who knows.
Which hurts more
If he doesn’t sign does it hurt the long term future of the club (considering how hard it is to get a good starting pitcher)? Or does it hurt the perception that still prevails that the Rockies are cheap? (justified or not).
If he breaks the bank and signs and blows his arm out, that will hurt more than not signing him ever could.

Welcome to Purple Row,
I’m not sure. Both problems you present could be remedied at the same time by the Rockies drafting and signing an expensive impact pitcher next year or even sooner in free agency. I don’t think either one hurts too terribly, particularly if the team goes onto the playoffs again this year.
Honestly, I think pitching-wise, this organization is in a lot better shape than folks around here are acting. Offensively, I’m struggling to find guys to peg as true impact bats up through the org. ladder.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 7:54 PM MDT up reply actions
I agree with you
Our pitching staff is strangely better than our offense for the first time ever, and there’s some legitimate pitching prospects on the farm. There are few impact power bats, at least among prospects knocking on the door.

I think there are a couple of decent bats, but I question whether they’ll be able to find a position in the bigs given the current roster and defensive liabilities.
This offseason could be a key one for DOD. It’d be nice if he flipped a few prospects.

I agree. Getting a potential No. 1 is tough. Ubaldo is the first we’ve ever had and I think even the most optimistic of us probably realize he’s bound to head to a bigger market when he’s a FA.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 8:06 PM MDT up reply actions
Well,
Morales was pegged as a future ace back in the day. Injuries and inconsistency have pushed those expectations back to a solid 3/4th guy or a very good set up guy.
Really?
I guess it depends on what you mean by “pegged.” While he has the stuff, he always showed control problems, so that sort of projection is surprising. Unless they meant he could be if he harnessed his control.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Luckily he signed for a good while or else I was just be depressed every time I saw his awesomeness. (sorry if I gush I saw him in person for the first time last week and my man crush was taken to a new level.
I don’t think enough was made about how tremendous of a deal that was for this team. In two years, he’s going to be a better value than any pitcher in the big leagues. That isn’t even hyperbole.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 8:12 PM MDT up reply actions
It was no guarantee to work out that way
Corpas would have been a great deal too if he remained in his 07 form as well.
"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." - Albert Einstein
by Andrew T. Fisher on Aug 17, 2009 8:15 PM MDT up reply actions
I still like the idea of signing up the talent early like they did with Ubaldo, Tulo, and Corpas. Since younger players tend to be healthier and it has the possibility of saving a lot of money the last couple of years of the deal
They went *really* early with them, though
Pretty much after their 1st year. So there is some risk. But by giving them a little more early, it seems they’re able to buy out the arb and often the 1st FA year at quite a discount
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
It’s what we did with Helton, too.
It’s the only way a mid-to-small-market team can survive. Sign young guys for most of their prime, pay them more early to buy out a FA year and then let them walk. The Helton mistake came when they signed him for 79 years and $7.6 billion.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 8:23 PM MDT up reply actions
I think the strategy of super early singing worked. Next year we would have to pay Tulo and Ubaldo arb rates (yuck). Even if we would have let Corpas walk. I think we would have paid the other two more next year than we are going to pay all three. Then the numbers just get better for us the longer you get into these deals.
Yeah, it makes sense
since the high quality FA’s come at such a premium price.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
He's OPSing over .900
And is top notch at the back end of the groundout. We could be spending the money a lot worse.
Although I laughed at the figure you gave.

Rios’s deal is a lot closer to Helton’s, in terms of whether it’s worth it or not
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
He pretty much already is
I mean, sure, Lincecum provides more, but at $750,000 his season, Ubaldo’s value to pay is already pretty ridiculous.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Agreed
But I’d rather develop the arms and spend on the established bats whether they be free agents or resigning the bats we do develop. Basically because spending $10 million a year on a bat is a lot safer bet long-term than an arm. As for Matzek, I’ll probably be fine with it either way. If he doesn’t sign we get a simular pick in what might be a better draft. If he does sign (and it’s not a gawd awful amount of money), he has a very good chance of being a bargain in a few years.
So
Now I’m confused. OU Classes don’t start until September 29th. Was he taking summer classes. If not, I’m not too surprised he didn’t attend class ;)
I think so

Their win may sound impressive
but they shut down a horrid lineup, and all the runs they scored were off awful pitchers. It won’t make me lose sleep, especially since they are still in a horrid road trip and we get to end the last major one with the Nationals this week. :)

The thing is with the Nats winning
is that most of their wins come from the fact that they smack the heck out of the other team’s pitchers. Their pitching has been somewhat better, but still suckish. The goal is to get quality starting pitching, and the rest will take care of itself, especially since we’re now road adjusted. Lets not also forget that the only winning team they beat was the Marlins (whom they won against by outslugging them): the rest of the teams they beat were the Dbacks, Pirates, and the Reds. The Braves beat the living daylights out of them, as they finally were faced with good pitching. Yes, they have been playing better ball, but that doesn’t mean they are a good team all of the sudden. If our pitching is bad like last series, then yeah, we’re not going to sweep them, but we have Jimenez and Marquis going for us. Hammel is the wildcard here in the series, and I expect a bounceback from him.

Around 6 o'clock ET,
he gave four picks he didn’t think would sign and he didn’t include Matzek in that.
"If we never try, we shall never succeed." - Abraham Lincoln
Purple Row - Covering all your Rockies needs!
That Gammons piece is so full of things inconsistent with what we otherwise know
That I wouldn’t give it much attention. I know for certain that Matzek hadn’t been signed when it came out.
It doesn't read to me like he saying there's conflicting reports that he has singed
but that there’s conflicting reports that he will sign before the deadline.
Peronally
I have a good feeling that we will. Just because it’s quite rare not to sign a high schooler.
I doubt it would run this late if he hadn't.

Which semantically, might be the same thing
the way the article reads.
If you believe Law
That may not be true. We don’t know whose contracts are sitting on Buds desk right now.
But it's definitely inconsistent with what we read from Detroit
About Turner and Oliver, who underwent physicals and are still talking with the club, for instance. I just don’t think it’s a very reliable article.
Well, Oliver was still talking...
signed for $1.495 million, which is a considerable upgrade from the straight $1 million Gammons said.
Is it?
Law is reporting that Oliver has signed.
Maybe
remember that Miller is the floor, and Matzek still has to weigh all the risks of school that he did ten minutes ago. Sometimes it’s not how high you can go, but how much you’re willing to walk away from.
And it's also possible a deal could be done or essentially done before
the Turner info was out there.
The major league contract is the biggie there.
They have to put him on the 40 man roster now, correct?
Wow, that's 2 now
As Porcello was also a high schooler with a ML contract
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
The Tigers, despite the fact that Detroit is turning into a wasteland, have no fear when it comes to spending money… I really wonder how that will impact the team long-term. That state is at like 20+% unemployed. That’s insane.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 9:04 PM MDT up reply actions
And their attendance has taken a heavy hit
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
It’s only just begun. I was just in Detroit a couple months ago. Every strip mall is bare and it seemed like 20 percent of the houses were for sale at ridiculous prices. Once the American automakers inevitably fail (because they have been failing for 20+ years), that state will be poorer than Mississippi.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 9:12 PM MDT up reply actions
There's little that's accurate about your post.
Anecdotes about these supposed bare strip malls aside…
The Tigers attendance is right in line with their 2006 season. One can’t forget that they’re only a handful of seasons removed from fielding one of the worst teams ever.
As such the season ticket install base is still low since it takes more than one season of hype to build that up. It was overinflated in 2007 because of the World Series hype and 2008 because of all the preseason predictions of Tigers greatness. After those letdowns, many season ticket holders of a more bandwagon persuasion bailed.
Gammons has lost his fastball. He’s still capable of getting outs, but he has to rely on guile and movement.

How good is that channel? I’m thinking about upgrading to get it, but not sure if it’s worth it.

The analysts are OK, but unbiased. They talk about every team, just sometimes they don't make sense.
Good channel though, they show live in games and on thursday/saturday show a game.

Personally, I think "Quick Pitch"
is the best baseball show on television. It’s highlights with just the tv or radio announcers and not analysis. It’s great for just pure, HD, baseball. It’s the late night MLB Network show.
Agree 100%...
Nothing but highlights, mostly with accompanying TV feeds from both teams’ announcer, so you never have to watch ESPN again with its announcers trying to make their reputations with hip comments and other annoying banter. On MLB Network the game, not the announcer, is what it’s all about.
agreed.

I got DirectTv and subsequently MLB Network about 2 weeks ago
and I don’t think I have turned it to ESPN since. I love it. The analysis is way better and since it is dedicated to baseball they go much more in depth, especially on teams we don’t even see highlights of on ESPN (Rockies).
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

True, however...
I’m not an “Insider” and anything worth knowing you can find a recap either at the Row or on MLBTR.
TGFPR!!
An Insider subscription gets you Buster Olney’s daily links, all Law and all Hollinger stuff. And the magazine, which has quickly been adding to its stable of writers.
Good deal, if you ask me.

I've been an insider for awhile, and it's not very much.
I also like the college football previews, and a lot more. Although the magazine that shows up in my mailbox every week tends to get piled up around my apartment without me even looking at it.
Most of the info can be found for free
It’s not like they have a secret team there or something like that.
Well, I have long-lasting love for print media, so I’d much rather have the magazine in my hands. The layout/design is tremendous.

Fair enough
I’m not a huge fan of magazines. With the internet, I can get just about anything I need and I don’t end up with clutter (and I tend to have issues with tossing old magazines, so they tend to just pile up)

we wouldn’t even know who the Rockies selected outside of the first round. and maybe not even that.

Okay, my full focus is on Tyler Matzek now.
Wow that was weird to say. But yeah just finished all my AP summer homework (school starts tomorrow, woot Ima be a senior!!!!!!) and it was a crapload. Come on FO, let’s get this deal in place.
Turner's deal is not as bad as Law made it sound, it's a $5.5 million contract
A $4.7 million bonus paid out over six years. Matzek should come in somewhere between that and Miller.
now they've changed the net MLB present value to around $5 million
It’s a tricky bit of work, it sounds like.

Well, that at least shows either he had every intention of signing if he got the offer he wanted.
That or he was trying to make it look that way, but I don’t know why he would do that.
Come on guys
If some think 3.5 would get it done, than do it. That isn’t anything that we can’t afford. Heck, I’ll even buy a beer next time I go to a game to help cover the cost.
Okay guys (and RG) can somebody explain this to me:
Okay third overall pick gets signed for $6.25 million. Shouldn’t Matzek sign for around $3mil then??
9th overall pick gets signed for $5 million plus.., riddle me that batman
It all depends on the player and the team and what both sides want or are willing to give up.
But you have to remember that the third guy could have gotten drafted to early
and Matzek just dropped because of the money.
In a more equitable world, maybe.

If Matzek signs
are we likely to hear about it within the hour, or will the news trickle in after the deadline has passed?
It might trickle in a tad past midnight. If the team is in hard negotiations right now and gets him signed right at the deadline, it might take 15 minutes to type up the press release.
My guess is that he’s not signed and the release is ready to rock and roll.

Going forward..........
I think this signing would be huge for the Rockies and the fan base in Colorado. We are in playoff contention, have up and coming players that should help us keep in contention for years to come still. Adding top notch talent like this, REGAURDLESS of how it works out, is in the best interest of all parties involved.
Fans like to see the team signing talent. Players like to see the ownersoing after talent and any free agents we bring in like to see that the team is being MAINTAINED to compete at the highest levels.
This signing would do all of that. And if it worked out the way it could it would only be all the bigger for the team…………..
I hope we get him in the fold.

Teams don’t make money off of the die-hard fans. They make their money off of the casual fan and that will never change. It’s why smart GMs like Jack Z in Seattle still have to do things like sign Ken Griffey Jr.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 9:42 PM MDT up reply actions
I could't disagree more
Hardcore fans are the ONLY reason the Rockies had the home crowd numbers we had when the times where so tough and this team was piss poor. The casual fans make the numbers look insane……..the hardcore fans keep teams afloat.
casual fans = maybe 5-10 games a year
hard core fans = as many games as they can afford
disagree
many come to the ballpark..just cause it’s a nice summer night. The fact that a game is going on is 2ndary to most fans. Most fans can barely pick out which side is the home team.
Plus your point above
The dedicated core can help foster a wider enthusiasm.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Your definitions there may be true
but the number of fans who attend 5-10 games a year far outweighs the others, so they become more important in comparison.
5-10 games sounds like a lot
I wonder how many people here see more than that?
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Yeah
I would say 5-10 or even less. There are tons of those fans, and they bring in a lot more money, I would think, than fans who attend more often.
They bring in the extra money
The guys that are there every night are kinda the “overhead income”.

I'll have another beer, please.
Griffey type signings
Absolutely I agree that teams make that type of signing to entice the casual fan to have more of an interest. NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT.
That said how many of us in here are guilty of having too much faith in the front office over the years and trying to overhype moves like Jay Payton or Jamey Carroll???
Hard core fans will buy tickets regaurdless, causal fans are enticed. But have no doubt the hard core fans that buy season tickets are THE MOST important fans for any team.
yeah, but putting great talent on the field and winning solves those problems
Griffey brings in a few fans for a short time, but winning keeps ’em coming back for more.

But after Reynolds over Longoria and Lincecum (I know, hindsight, but I’m speaking as a casual fan, kind of), saying we ponied up for the best talent available will at least build some faith in the organization.

News has been dead for an hour
but I wonder if people are concentrating their time efforting sources closer to Strasburg, Ackley, etc. Quite a bit left to cover for the national guys.
There hasn't been much of anything on them either

Like, faxed signatures on a page, or it’s 11:59 and Matzek’s agent says “Okay, we’ll take it”?

Depending on whether Chacin is still in the minors, he very well might be No. 1.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 10:01 PM MDT up reply actions
Chacin isn't in the photo
Matzek or Friedrich
Then Matzek for me. The real test will be whether he has the velo he had in the state playoffs or the velo from the regular season. If he’s hitting 95-96 like Law reported, watch out.
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 10:04 PM MDT up reply actions
Didn't say he wasn't, but he's not as good as the top two
I’ll try and do a bigger fanpost on Matzek tomorrow to help everyone in making their decision as to where he slots, I’m sure most will find him number one, which is where he’ll be on mine.
I look forward to it,
I think he’s #1 on mine as well, but Friedrich has made a very good case for himself this season.
I have some visual aides too!
though I’m sure you’ve probably seen them by now…
If Chacin is still on there
then Matzek gets bronze from me. I want to see how he performs first.

Marquis won't be back next year
Not a chance. He’ll get at least what he’s getting this year.
"Speak softly and carry a big (hockey) stick." - Theodore Roosevelt
This offseason will be a different game for Free Agents
given the economy. Lots of teams are hurting.
that’s not saying the Rockies could be a player for Marquis though
Eh, I won't believe that 'til I see it
This offseason was supposedly a bad one, yet the Yankees gave $400M to 4 guys. I won’t believe that money will go down until I see it happen.
"Speak softly and carry a big (hockey) stick." - Theodore Roosevelt
This offseason was bad for the 2nd tier guys
The premium guys like Holliday will still do well. Esp. since there’s so few of them in this off-season’s crop
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Marquis might actually be reasonable in his demands
By all accounts, he truly enjoys playing with this club, and he’s revitalized his career here, and we pursued him in 2006. I wouldn’t necessarily throw a blanket “no way” over our chances of re-signing him.
As much as money, a lot will depend on what the team sees as it’s rotation in 2011, because he definitely won’t take a one year deal.

What's reasonable?
Even with a down economy, he’s going to look for something close to his last contract.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Yes, I agree, and three years at $9m per for his performance would be fair
I just don’t see the Rox offering three years, based on their future prospects. If he’d take 2 years at $17-18m, the Rox may actually bite. Dude could still end up winning 20 this year.
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
by Mondogarage on Aug 17, 2009 10:17 PM MDT up reply actions
I don't see him getting that
he’s had one great year, and 2 ok/good, not great ones. He’s also 3 years older.
I think he’ll be at 3 years 6 million per or so.
He's older, he's not old.
What is he, 32/33 tops? No, he’ll get much much more than $6m per.
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
by Mondogarage on Aug 17, 2009 10:20 PM MDT up reply actions
If his agent settles for that before February
He should be shot. It’s not like Marquis was a star when he signed his current deal. Guys who can stay in a rotation all year and be decent are worth quite a bit.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
I'm telling everyone now
besides the top 8 teams, budgets and payroll will be tight this year. I see more teams going younger, and building from within, like the Rockies, Twins and Rays.
So, with small budgets will come smaller contracts.
so what makes you think one of the top 8 won't be interested in marquis?
those teams are always looking for starting pitching and are always willing to pay out the ass for it.
by Narcoleptico on Aug 17, 2009 10:26 PM MDT up reply actions
that is the catch
but even they might start figure out they are competing/bidding against themselves.
If the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers will stay out…I think Marquis will slide to the middle class teams (which the Rockies are one of)
Now why would the Dodgers stay out?
More to the point, why would the Mets stay out?
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
by Mondogarage on Aug 17, 2009 10:31 PM MDT up reply actions
well ultimately
those teams can have only SO many starting pitching. The Mets are stupid…so…it could happen.
You think the Mets would be "stupid"
To sign a proven innings eater after a 16-18 win season with a 3.60 ERA in Coors Field?
Watching the purple row from high atop the big brown monolith on California Ave
by Mondogarage on Aug 17, 2009 10:34 PM MDT up reply actions
yes
they love Oliver Perez and gave him a ton of money…
Personally I think the Mets are one of the worst run clubs in baseball….they just have a lot of money to cover up stupid
It's possible, but I doubt he'll slip that far
Teams are still trying to win. So that’s why I think his agent would be nuts if went for that low a dollar amount before Feb.
We’ll see how the Rockies read it after the season. If they offer him arb, it probably means they don’t think the market will be as bad as you think (or think they can afford the $10+ million he’d win in arb should he accept).
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
We'll see.
If the season ended today, he could ask for 10 million on the market, and probably get it.
I doubt they would be in on either guy
regardless.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Probably not as much as whether or not we make a deep playoff run will affect those chances
I don’t see us going after O-Dog under either scenario, though.

$15.67m 4 year major league deal
Wow, didn’t even buy out all his arbitration.

Don’t think they could have.
Will he pitch this season?
by LawrenceDavis on Aug 17, 2009 10:10 PM MDT up reply actions
Or most likely any of it, right?
That’s a 4 year deal that starts this year (or next year?), whereas his actual service time clock doesn’t start until he’s added to the active roster.
Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!
Ssshhhh.

Yes
and it was his hand that touched home in 2007

Good for the Nats...
that franchise would have been in deep trouble if they hadn’t signed Strasburg. I’m happy for their fans, who haven’t had a damn thing to cheer about.
Especially
with Jordan Zimmerman and his TJ surgery….I’m glad they signed the guy. They deserve SOMETHING good to happen.

Wow, wow, wow
Go to walk the dog, and look what happens. YeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaah! Nice work, Rox. This should quiet the “Monforts are cheap bastards” Denver Post comments for a day or so. Well, maybe. You never know about those folks.
I'll have another beer, please.
There's no accounting for DP commenting idjits
But seriously, yes, given all of the efforts the Monforts have made since the All Star break, this should shut up any complaining until next ASB. If they don’t resign Marquis because he wants three years and the Rox see an entirely different rotation in two years, that’s a baseball decision, not a penny pinching decision.

Idjits
One of my favorite words. Even it’s not really a word. Down south, it’s almost abbreviated: igits. All means the same, however. Happy that someone else in these parts knows the term.

Well I am from Austin...

Well, this certainly makes my day
I didn’t think it would happen. Kudos to the entire organization, and I can’t wait to see the kid pitch.
I find myself looking forward to tomorrow’s Rockpile.

Right now...
Mark Kiszla is desperately seeking an angle about how this reflects badly on the cheap monforts and how we shouldn’t have “dumped” Holliday.
I can see it now from Kizsla
Why didn’t we throw the money at him the day after the draft so he could progress this year!
It’s called negotiations, dude. :P

YESSSS!!!!
I wake up from a early evening nap to find out the ROCKIES HAVE SIGNED MATZEK?!?!?!? yesssss!!!
Kudos to the Rockies front office, and the kid for realizing the money is there and he can’t turn it away…
and kudos to the Nationals and Strasburg… that could’ve been ugly
i just hope he's worth it
if you're reading this, it means my undying support for your team will result in its failure.

it doesn't take a whole lot for a baseball player to be worth 3.9 million
i wouldn’t worry too much about it. and even if he breaks his arm before throwing a pitch, hey, it’s not your money.

Too early to tell in the final analysis...
but on paper, is this the best draft in the O’Dowd Era?

Seems like it
this is quite the haul, and one of my favorite picks, Stavert, has yet to start pitching
He's and Oregon dude too, I think
How come he hasn’t pitched yet?

No other news about other signings
And it looks like we didn’t get the late rounder we were talking about before (I forget his name)
With the big names being signed
I wouldn’t be too surprised if the lower round guys are never actually reported by the press.
Aaron Crow hasn't signed, but he has a different deadline
It looks like the two not signs are Purke and Washington.

Yup
I’m trying to find the whole list of 1st rounders who signed….
by bballrox4717 on Aug 17, 2009 10:37 PM MDT up reply actions
Found it
Yeah, the only 1st rounders who haven’t signed are Purke, Washington, and Crow.

This was a crazy good draft
We got a top of the rotation, closer, and speedy outfielder who can hit (all potentially) before we even got to the 2nd round.
Beat me to it, yahhh! A good night
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
And the day is nearly complete
Unfortunately, the Mets’ epic fail kept us from a sweep of the day

A great night to be a Rockies’ fan…
Let me just say
Every day is a great day to be a Rockies fan.

+1
