What the national media doesn't seem to get
Like everybody around here, I have loved the national attention the Rockies have gotten over the last week or so. But it frustrates me a bit because the national media is acting like we've been mediocre until the last couple weeks and have come out of nowhere. When the Dodgers got off to their hot start in the first half, they were lauded as clear NL favorites and something of a juggernaut.
The Dodgers were 51-30 in their first 81 games, or half a season, on pace for a 102-60 full season record.
The Rockies have gone 55-26 in their last 81 games, also half a season, a pace for a 110-52 record for a full season.
This is not some three week or one month fluke type thing in 2007, the Rockies are one of the best teams in baseball and should be treated as such, instead they are treated as some sort of Cinderella story because they got off to a slow start.
It's just a bit insulting, IMO.

I don't know, I think most of them get that, even if they don't explicity state so.
I think it’s just that now that we’ve pulled away a bit from the rest of the WC contenders (including taking 3 of 4 from SF) and pulled dangerously close to LA, the attention from other fans has intensified, and the media is following suit. Most of them have stated the record under Tracy, which goes back 3 months.
I doubt very much
that the national media cares too much to get it right. Its not like 99% of their viewers/readers have any idea either.
You could make the argument
that it is some sort of Cinderella story (or something) in that our winning corresponded with the firing of Hurdle.
The Rockies need some oldschool purple/white striped high socks. The team’s problem is it’s lack of swagger. I feel strongly that these socks will provide the swagger necessary to tap the potential that are the Rockies.
Honestly, I think you're making too much of this.
The media has taken notice lately simply because our games of late have been especially meaningful, (not to mention dramatic.) It wasn’t until August 10th that we really took control of the wildcard. By that I mean, that every game since then we’ve unequivocally been in first place, not tied or switching back and forth with San Francisco. And it wasn’t until this weekend, then yesterday, that we’ve been 2 games back in the division for the first time since what? Late April? …Early April?
Of course we’ve been a great team since June 4th. The national media (with the exception of Kruk, and a few other loonies who even I could do a better job than) won’t deny that. But why follow a team, specifically at this time of year, unless the games mean something?
I love this team for making these games mean something, and for making these games so undescribably amazing to witness. There are a lot of other teams and fans (i.e., the ones that are not getting as much attention as the Rockies) that wish they were where this team and us fans, are.
I don’t want to sound too harsh, but please, enough with the “Woe is me, the national media hates us.” Just bask in the awesome that is this team.

I feel sorry for Pedro still for that
I can’t imagine what it would be like to be forced to make Bonds your life.
