Let's give Rincon another chance in today's game.

Makes sense

I don’t know why they decided to bring up Murton in the first place, when we definitely were/are more short on pitching than outfielders.

Alanna Rizzo is my dream girl.

Murton's not just down, he's DFA'd

According to the article. That would mean a trade, or at least risking him on waivers.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

Wait a minute

Rincon was never removed from the 40-man, was he? Perhaps Murton really was just optioned.

This is his last option year

If he was DFA’d, it was a completely pointless move, because someone will quickly claim him if he’s on waivers.

by bballrox4717 on Aug 26, 2009 4:46 PM MDT up reply actions

I hope not!

I’m hoping this isn’t the case!!! I’d hate to see him on another team playing against us in the post-season! Now, if he ends up someplace like Pittsburgh, I guess I’m okay with it just because he deserves to be playing in the major leagues and it doesn’t seem to be with us. Let’s hope DOD knows what he’s doing here. He usually does.

by IowaRockie on Aug 26, 2009 4:50 PM MDT up reply actions

I guess there could be another move coming

But for now, I’ll just assume Murton was optioned rather than DFA’d as we have normally used the term.

I don't think we should just write it off as an oversight by Ringolsby.

It could be, but it could also be an advance move for opening a roster space for Giambi or someone else they plan to use in September callups.

by Greg Stanwood on Aug 26, 2009 5:08 PM MDT up reply actions

All I said was for now, I'll assume.

I didn’t write anything off. If he updates his story, assumption ends. I didn’t say people couldn’t speculate…feel free.

Now and update: MLB.com also says DFA

Article link.

Bye, Matt, thanks. I hope it’s a trade and you’re getting a chance to play somewhere.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

by FooMan on Aug 26, 2009 5:52 PM MDT up reply actions

It really would, because Rincon was already on the 40-man, right?

Rincon was put on the DL, but I don’t see that he was ever DFA’d so he could be removed from the 40-man.

The MLB site also lists both Rincon and Murton on the 40, and there’s 40 players on it (not counting the guys on the 60-day).

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

by FooMan on Aug 26, 2009 4:50 PM MDT up reply actions

Yes, both Rincon and Murton were on the roster,.

If Murton was indeed DFA’d, it was a roster clearing move for September callups, and not for Rincon.

Did you tell him

you never lost faith in him? “Your FIP’s been excellent, man. What’s that? Ask Brian Bannister.”

“Great, it’s really fun”

do the other players pick on you for being new?

Are you sure you didn't see Fogg?

I did see Fogg as well

In the tunnel underneath Coors. I told him to kick some butt.

The Rockies had to DFA Murton since they asked for waiver options on him

meaning he can’t be sent down until Friday. It’s a technicality.

According to Ringolsby.

To be honest, I do not know

by Andrew T. Fisher on Aug 27, 2009 9:15 AM MDT up reply actions

I think they want to expose him to revocable waivers (to see if another team will make a good offer)...

if he clears he’s back at CS, if he’s claimed the Rockies can pull him off, trade him, or let him go.

In other words, the Rockies want to test the Murton market.

Eschew Obfuscation!

Thank you

That makes a ton of sense

Transactions list just says "designated for assignment"

Ringolsby gave a little clarification in the comments section of the ITR post:

I am not sure of the complete details but it seems the Rockies asked for option waivers on Murton when they called him up. That meant he could not be sent down until Friday. As a result he had to be designated. That does not mean he has to be put on waivers, but it means the Rockies have 10 days to deal with his contract. I think that would allow them to assign him to the Springs once Friday passes.

If they don’t have to trade him or put him on waivers, then whatever happened is beyond my mediocre knowledge of MLB transactions rules. I thought a DFA required one to trade a player or put him on irrevocable waivers, but maybe there’s something different about whatever transaction they used. Perhaps they can wait a few days, option him, make another move to free a 40-man spot, and restore him to the 40-man so he doesn’t have to be placed on waivers.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

Guys

we gotta pour one out for Murton. Gone before he got a time to shine on this team.

The Rockies need some oldschool purple/white striped high socks. The team’s problem is it’s lack of swagger. I feel strongly that these socks will provide the swagger necessary to tap the potential that are the Rockies.

No guarantees he'll be gone

I think he could still be back in September

I really don't understand this....

I think Murton could have been useful down the stretch (I have much less confidence in Giambi, for example).

by DenverBears on Aug 27, 2009 5:23 AM MDT reply actions

he'll more than likely be back
