2 positives w/ EYJ
1. They won’t double him up
2. If he gets on & there’s someone on 2B, he probably doesn’t get picked off.

Dodgers have our number big time, hope we don't meet 'em in the playoffs

yep
sometimes you just gotta admit that someone is better head up. Now, we’ve got to force the Giants to the same realization.
We haven't had too many games against these guys where they've dominated
I think our guys just don’t believe they can win against them this year.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
I doubt they care too much
about run differential when they lead the series 14-3 or whatever. Domination nonetheless.
Heres the statement that makes the most sense.
Hurdle got fired b/c of them…. maybe we should be thanking them for that…

I hope so
but w/ the offense facing Lincecum, Cain, and Zito it will be a monumental task

Okay fellas, I need to calm my adrenaline down and go to bed. Let's hope for an epic performance in SF.
Look at the bright side.
After 3 in SF we have 10 games against some easy opponents. We just have to take care of business then.

But Lincecum and Cain this time.
So when we win 2 of 3, McCovey Chronicles will pull the plug.

The Dodgers
have to face Cincinnati, which seems to be scoring runs lately.
Unfortunately, they are still the Reds.
I don’t know if we should rely on Cincy to do dirty work we couldn’t take care of ourselves.
Okay let's get some perspective
Did we think we could take the division 2 weeks ago?…probably not…icing on the cake. We still have the advantange in the WC
Yes, we can.

Dear Dodgers,
A tip of the hat for this series win, but don’t think you’re out of the woods… We’re coming for you and there’s nothing you can do about that.
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
Personally, I'd want to face the Giants
But this was a good series… Hopefully your best pitchers will be against our best come October 1st
If you take out Rockies vs. Dodgers games out of the standings, who's ahead in the division
Oh that’s right it’s the Rockies.

That's what his point is.
He’s thinking I was cherry picking like that with my original game thread. It was a rhetorical question, which I ended up answering no to, if you read it. You can’t cherry pick. The Rockies remain inferior to the Dodgers until they beat the Dodgers, it’s as simple as that. They’ve proven their superiority over everybody else, they just need to do it against that one last team.

I wish I could find a graphic online
that was in this morning’s LA Times sports page. In essence, it was 3 sets of standing.
1) Standings through June 3 – Dodgers 37-18 1st. Rox 20-32 Last 15.5 GB
2) Standings Jun 3 through yesterday- Rox 1st 52-23, Dodgers 3rd 38-34 12.5 GB
3) Standings through today – Dodgers 75-52 1st. Rox 72-55 2nd 3 GB
It was really interesting how to see it listed that way…
Thank you.
Good luck hanging on to that division lead.

Like I said above,
U-ball, Marquis and road Hammel.
The Rockies are 3-3 against Lincecum, Cain and Zito this season, SF
The Giants are 4-4 against our pitchers. It will probably be pretty even. I just hope it’s us that can take two of three this time and not them.
We have ten games at home after SF
against teams with a sub .500 record. If we start losing those, it’s time to start to panic. We all knew going into these 10 games that it was going to be a tough stretch, one win in SF makes us 5-5, which isn’t too shabby. It’s the Giants who need to win, and ask the Braves what happens to your team when you NEED to win…
http://twitter.com/blakebomber
Offense needs to put the ball in play
way too many strikeout on this team. There are a few guys that are K’s or HRs only type(Stewart, Barmes, Iannetta). If you don’t make contact you make the other teams life a great deal easier.
by PinchHitLancePainter on Aug 27, 2009 4:36 PM MDT reply actions
Against pitching like the Dodgers, this weakness gets exposed
If we’re playing a lot of guys that don’t throw strikes, we do well. Stewart’s been an issue, but Atkins bat is so slow, it doesn’t do us much better. Yorvit can’t hit breaking stuff, so our backups don’t help. It’s not an easy fix for the team right now unless one of these guys is able to make some adjustments and correct their issues. If we get just one of these four (five counting Barmes) producing we should be alright. It’s frustrating, though.
OMG EVERYONE ON THE TEAM DOES NOTHING BUT STRIKE OUT
WE’D BE BETTER OFF PROMOTING EVERYONE FROM AAA!
WE’RE DOOMED! SEASON IS OVER! RAAAAAAGE!!!
Did I capture that about right?

I'm just channeling all the ridiculous comments I've been seeing
Coming from names I don’t recognize. :-)
Granted, I’ve only been here a couple months, but I hate seeing bandwagoners spew this kind of stuff out. I remember 1999-2006.
They lost 2 games to what is (or until recently was) considered the best team in the NL.
They still have 34 games left. I’m tired of all the whining. We’ll be fine, baseball is a marathon, suck it up and keep running!

by ShadowPenguin on Aug 27, 2009 4:49 PM MDT up reply actions
terrible circumstances
We had terrible luck for this series.
1. 14 inning game to drain the bullpen. (And the team?)
2. Hottest 2 hitters either DL or only able to bunt
3. No off day to skip a start. 4. Back end of rotation+fogg.
The situation set us up for bad, especially facing Wolf and Kershaw, and DLRs past numbers against LA, we were lucky to get a single win.
They are right, a lot of baseball to be played, and I know the last series of the year will go much differently.
by roxintober on Aug 27, 2009 4:43 PM MDT via mobile reply actions
That's a pretty fair assessment...
and let’s face it..It’s bad enough to duke it out with the Dodgers, but to have to duke it out with some questionable calls behind the plate…was kinda tough..
Yeah, what was with the umps this week?

Can't blame the umps.
The strike zone was terrible and probably favored LA a bit, but we still needed to adjust and hit Padilla a lot better than we did.
Agreed
There were a bunch of “WTF REF” comments in the TBLA thread this series. Terrible ump calls both ways
by PHAT JULIO on Aug 27, 2009 4:48 PM MDT up reply actions 1 recs
I'm really curious
how much a screwy strike zone messes with a hitter and a pitcher for that matter. I mean mentally…wonder if anyone has done a study on that
I disagree
I think we should have had one win, and threatened for two. That’s what happened, but 4 games out with 5 weeks of baseball isn’t a big deal. We just need to go win 1 or 2 in SF and then come home and dominate the next homestand. 4-3 at home against division rivals is still respectable.

Long time baseball fan here (Since the "say hey" kid and the Mick).
A Rockies fan since the Mile High days.
I can tell from the comments I’ve read here since I joined a couple of days ago that you guys know your baseball. I’m not telling you something you don’t already know, But I just gotta say my two cents anyway. A W was possible today and would have been nice. That oughtta tell us the Rockies haven’t fallen apart. And things still don’t look too bad given the circumstances. As somebody already noted, the Rockies had to use the back end of their rotation (+ Fogg) and two dynamic young players were not up to speed. That first game in the series took a lot out of them too, especially coming off the series with the Giants.
I’m not making excuses. I’m just saying both young players should be fine very soon. The Rockies have already shown they can get back on their feet quickly. There’s still a lot of time, still alot of baseball left to play. The Rockies need to get at least one in SF and take care of business when they come back for the home stand. If they do, and there’s no reason to think they won’t, they’re going to put a lot of pressure on the Dodgers and Giants.
This thing ain’t even close to being over.
GO ROCKIES!
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
thanks
I needed that. Calm, reasoned, and right on. I still want 2 in SF, though…
Right back at ya!

Dodgers
really pissed me off. Why can’t the Rockies just simply beat their ass. I know we are the better team!
LA, forever a thorn in the side of Colorado sports
The Dodgers have seemingly always had their way with the Rockies, the Lakers have kept the Nuggets from the NBA Finals on multiple occasions and even the Kings pushed the Avs to the brink during the Stanley Cup years(probably the toughest series of the 2001 playoffs, sans the Finals). Hell, even the LA Raiders used to beat up on the Broncos. Once greasy Al moved them back to Oakland, order was restored and the Broncos started to dominate.
I’ve been reading this board the past few months and have been very impressed with the thorough insight and overall quality of the fans on here. I’ve found that tuning into the “Row” can be rather therapeutic and calming, especially after games like the one today. I must admit, for me personally, todays loss stings worse than any other this year, especially given the current circumstances. I felt today was a keystone game made even more relevant due to the Rockies recent injuries, the ambiguity of the rotation without Cookie, and the Giants refusal to implode after getting their hearts ripped out(in fact it’s been quite the opposite with two come from behind wins since their Coors meltdown). Not to mention the daunting task ahead…….in a place where the Rockies have historically been terrible(yes, even worse than Dodger Stadium), and against a team that will be hell bent for revenge. Just as the Rockies could have concievably been tied for first in the NL West after the Dodgers series, they can also concievably be trailing in the WC come Sunday.
I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just trying to examine the situation honestly while venting my frustrations over todays disappointment(made even worse by losing to that douche Padilla). Tomorrows a new day……just ask the Giants and their fans. As bad as they had to be feeling a few days ago, I’m sure their spirits have taken a decidedly upward trajectory. They now have a chance at redemption. This is where the Rockies are really going to have their mettle tested. The next three days will be quite revealing. I hope the national media will now stop talking about the Rockies and allow them to go back under the radar.
I hear you leadbelly.
The games are too important to go under the radar, but I get a good feel from this years Rockies. Even though they are still very young, they seem to be a lot more mature, this time around. I don’t think a couple of misinformed, so-called pundits are going to affect their mood. They know what they need to do to get the job done and I think they still believe they can do it.
If this be Hell, let us make the most of it!
by Trinidad Jack on Aug 27, 2009 7:50 PM MDT up reply actions
The Rockies have a winning record in AT&T since 2006,
So while the overall picture in that park looks terrible, the recent history has been a lot more favorable and this isn’t the 2004 or 2005 team that will be playing there. Either way, though, you’re right that the Rockies will be tested in this series and the one still to come against SF. They have to continue their recent winning ways in that yard.
In worst case scenario we are one game behind...
Atlanta is winning, so both FLA and ATL are 4.5 games back…
I am looking at Rockies schedule and it is brutal.. They are playing 16 straight games in From next tuesday and end up getting more off days in the second half of the month (they play 3 games in 5 days )
ten games at home against the Mets, D-backs and Reds isn't that bad and then a West Coast trip.
The Dodgers are starting a worse sixteen straight game stretch right now where they have two road trips, this one to Colorado and Cincy and a later one to Arizona and the SF sandwiched with a couple of home series against the D-backs and Padres. The main thing is still home vs. away, and the Rockies schedule still favors them heavily in this regard.
