"I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline... I firmly believe that any man's finest hour - this greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious." - Vince Lombardi

As much as I was pleased by morales' performance

That was a garbage strike 3 call on Sandoval.

Rapids won 1-0, fun game

What I don't understand is that we have been a great baserunning team all year

until about the last week. Fundamentals in the tubes.

Not really

Remember Helton running through a sign & getting lucky?

And Tulo, for all his heroics, thinks he’s faster on the bases than he is, and isn’t a great judge of when he should try for extra bases.

No records in the last 10 years should count.

by Maris6161 on Aug 30, 2009 4:07 PM MDT up reply actions

My statement wasn't an opinion from watching the team

sure, you can think of baserunning blunders. But there was a study showing we were the top baserunning team…sometime in July I think.

"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." - Albert Einstein

by Andrew T. Fisher on Aug 30, 2009 4:08 PM MDT up reply actions

That would stretch the limit of statistics/sabremetrics

You can track CS and pickoffs, but not taking the extra base (or not), running through signs, or hitting the inside corner of the bag … so many things that are keys to good baserunning

Do the Rox have a baserunning coach?

If not, they need to get one.

ianetta is a better hitter than torrealba, a better defender and has hit better all season long. sorry, that is a fact, i don’t care that torrealba has a OGMG 10 GMZ HITT STREEK

doesn't matter.

i trust ianetta more than torrealba on their next AB, and every AB after, as they are much more likely to perform according to their season stats in PA going forward. add in torrealba’s rag arm and below average defense, and it’s pretty obvious to me.

I don't think so

His success was built on bat speed and using the whole field, not so much sheer power. He never struck me as a juicer. He’s just 29, so he really shouldn’t have lost bat speed so quickly.

It really could be a vision thing. He’s just 29, so he really shouldn’t have lost bat speed so quickly.

It has to be better than in Triple-A

Things have got to be better at Coors Field than the Triple-A Sky Sox are dealing with right now. They had a 7 1/2 game lead in their division nine days ago. But after a 1-7 homestand so far, their division lead is all but gone. Granted, Jason Giambi homered again today, but they are still losing. Let’s hope Jason will be another key left-handed bat from the bench over the next few weeks.

Too bad this isn't the Little League World Series

Or that would’ve been the case

So...

anyone gonna watch/follow the “big” Broncos/Bears preseason game?

There is a way.

by MissR on Aug 30, 2009 5:33 PM MDT reply actions

Woo Hoo

I’ll probably be following online. The Bronco fan in me makes me just a little too intrigued not to. Fortunately, I don’t put much stock into preseason so whatever happens, happens. At least it might take my mind off of the little losing streak the Rox have going on. Could be a fun game though

There is a way.

by MissR on Aug 30, 2009 5:38 PM MDT up reply actions

so are you going to post in the Broncos Blog?

Cause I’m thinking we aren’t allowed that here?

by SDcat09 on Aug 30, 2009 5:43 PM MDT up reply actions

yeah

I’ll probably mosey my way over there sometime

There is a way.

Probably

Nothing better to do. I hope Cutler gets a beer shower and throws for 350 yards.

I want to see Cutler get sacked and maimed

by Colsportsfan on Aug 30, 2009 5:35 PM MDT up reply actions

I don't quite get the violence...

what did he ever do when he was here. The broncos had a loosing record when he started. Move on

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority

but I hope Cutler actually does well. He’s a punk to be sure.

I actually think he’s going to get a few more cheers than people might think…

I thought the 2nd dumbest the Broncos have ever done was trading him…after hiring Joshie

No thank you..

I actually thought you should put the word “The Next Team we Play”…but that’s my weird sense of humor..

by SDcat09 on Aug 30, 2009 5:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah...

plenty of time left and a seriously favorable schedule.

Take care of business against the teams we have coming in and all will well.

by BroJB on Aug 30, 2009 5:37 PM MDT up reply actions

The most brutal part of the loss

is the lack of fundamentals..
but more than that, before today’s sac fly by Barmes (of all the people), our last sac fly to score a run was the 14th run in 14-11 win (last saturday)

The Rockies need to have a team meeting of some sort

So you are saying you think the Rockies

are a *****hit team now? Dang that’s pretty harsh!

by SDcat09 on Aug 30, 2009 5:44 PM MDT up reply actions

Maybe it should be an organizational thing

The bad karma is also at Triple-A Colorado Springs and Double-A Tulsa. Both seemed to have control of their playoff berths earlier in the week, but both have had similar slumps, and those playoff berths are now falling out of their grasps. And they only have eight games left.

by CM85 on Aug 30, 2009 5:45 PM MDT up reply actions

Perspective

1. Still WC tie. 31 games remain with 19 at home. Lot’s of games left.

2. 10 game stretch against your stiff competition and you go 4-6. Not so good. Lose 2 of 3 at home and swept on the road. 3-4 at home. Improvement needed.

3. The strikeouts and unproductive outs are killing this team. K’s are sad. They do nothing for you. Especially against teams like the Giants that are defensively challenged.

4. K’s make life easy on the defense, keep you from hitting behind runners, manufacturing runs.

5. Giants were crushed last week. They picked themselves up and stayed the course. Let’s see the mettle of the Rockies now. Will they tank or regroup?

As someone raised a life-long Mets fan, I hope the Rockies beat the snot out of them this week.

They’ve come too far to piss this thing away now.
