Her mom asked her tonight if she loves baseball (her mom doesn’t). Jenn started shaking her head up and down big time.
I’m gonna be crushed when I tell her we traded Baker. Her favorite Rox ever have been Holliday, Baker, and Yorvit. Two are gone, and the third will be. She called him her Fabulous Baker Boy.

There’s nothing better than a spouse who shares a passion for similar things. Or at least a tolerance for watching baseball. Last year my wife suprised me on father’s day by taking me to a Rockies game. We were lucky enough to watch Greg Reynolds pitch a losing game.

For her, it started with tolerance in late 2005
She knew I loved the Rox, but we only moved here from DC in June of that year, when she finished her Ph.D. and got the CSU position…so I started taking her to games. But 2006, she was really enjoying it, and by 2007, it was unabashed love.
She doesn’t necessarily always understand why certain personnel moves are made, and you can forget about wOBA, OPS, and UZR with her, but she truly loves the game, and we watch most all games together when we’re at home.
We still only get to about a dozen games a year, though, mostly because it’s hard for us to plan. Sadly, with what’s going on, I’ve only made it to four games so far this year, and she only three…but I swear she’ll be able to go by the time we play the Division Series.

That's the hope, but....
If she keeps making great progress, as I work 8 blocks from Coors, I may end up trying to make a midday game or two between now and then. It’s so hard for me to consider this a lost season, given how we really are having our greatest regular season ever. We’ll see.
Not sure I could go without feeling terribly guilty.

Very true, it can be and is
PR and Gameday got me through a lot of long nights early in the process when she was completely sedated.
We’ll just have to see how it goes. I’m -80 hours of paid time off now, and it may be impossible to escape the office for a nooner, anyway. We’ll see. I haven’t completely ruled out going to the unofficial meet at the next Bucs series (though it’s probably pretty unlikely).

It seems unlikely for a lot of people. But it’s quite probably the last game I’ll be able to go to this year, so if I have to be the only person in the rockpile screaming at the top of my lungs and singlehandedly killing the wave, I will.

Reds should have had more runs, but grounded into double play with one out. Terrible move. Hoping they can pull it out in the 9th. Looking at the Giants lineup, they have a very solid lineup with their two new additions of Garko and Sanchez. Seems like a good move for them.
How about the Yankees vs. Red Sox today? 0-0 into 15 innings. What an intense game that must have been. I’m not a fan of either team, but I certainly would not have minded being there to see that game. Maybe root on the Yankees, in this case.

I know you didn’t mean it this way, but when you said “Terrible move” it sounded like the double play was a strategic decision on the Reds part. Like they were thinking, “We’ll hit into a double play here, and we’ll have these guys right where we want them!”
Back from the game
As expected the Cubs Fans were out in large numbers today, but they were relatively quiet. When they tried to get a cheer/chant going it was instantly drowned out by ROCKIES FANS. I hope we can keep this up so cubs games can be more bearable (pun intended).
Great win, especially from our pitching. I was kind of confused when lineups were announced that Smitty was starting, but Dex ended up in center and Big Z wasn’t starting, so I assume he didn’t feel right before the game and the Rockies adjusted accordingly. If this outfield continues to hit (Carlos/Dexter/Smith/Hawpe) the rest of this season is going to be hard for Tracey to manage.

I've been hearing that sort of context with him a lot this season...
From announcers around the league. It’s seeming like he’s getting closer to make a good case for himself, but I’m guessing he needs a couple more solid seasons.
