Choose a charity for Purple Row Cares!
Congratulations fellow Rowboticons! Three long months ago we came together with the goal to celebrate our own identity and donate the proceeds to charity. The day was June 5th and the Rockies were 14.5 games back after an up and down season which could only be described as disappointing. After Purple Row Cares was launched and other "Hurdles" were cleared the Rockies went on an eleven game winning streak and continued winning 17 of 18. While some people may claim Karma was introduced to the Rockies season by those contributing towards Purple Row Cares, I would agree with them. Who else could claim credit? Of course it's all on us, just like crossing your fingers on an important atbat or holding your breath as the closer finishes out the 9th, it's all on us..the fans!
Sales to date have been good, leading Purple Row Cares to generate $78 in income. The question now is what should we do with it? Post your ideas for a charity to donate to and I will put together a list for us to vote on.
Here is an inventory of what has sold and the commission earned so far. It doesn't show the bonus we earned from Cafe Press for our sales in June. Commission from sales are not released for 60 days after the product is received and there is a minimum of $50 earned before a check is cut. So the first check will be released sometime next week. Any questions on Purple Row Cares can be emailed to Purplerowcares@gmail.com and either myself or Holly96 will respond. Thanks to all who have contributed so far!

My submission for charity is:
The Mike Coolbaugh Memorial Golf tournament – According to the website this will be the third year for the tournament and:
The proceeds from this year’s tournament will go partially to help support Mandy and the kids, but also to start a baseball clinic for kids from San Antonio who have lost a family member.

It’s related to the Rox.

My submission would be
South African AIDS orphans through my church, but it’s not really Rockies related or anything like that.
just a thought.

Do you have a link to this charity?
One of the things I looked forward to with this charity drive is finding out about the good work people do around the world. AIDS is a horrible disease, and kills many Coloradans.A close member of my family sufferred from and was eventually killed by AIDS. Although no one dies from AIDS, they die from Pneumonia or something else.
There are AIDS charities closer to home if people aren’t comfortable giving to a religious organization. The Colorado AIDS Project helps local victims and does good work.

well, it's through my church, like I said
I don’t really have a link though, which is kind of frustrating. I have an email from them, though.
Lighthouse Children’s Shelter
A Life Saving Refuge
Bana La Modimo “God’s Children”
The Lighthouse Shelter cares for at risk children who have either lost their parents to the AIDS pandemic, or have been taken away from their parents due to abuse or neglect. Lincoln and Jenny Smith will help run the shelter, doing everything from taking children to doctors appointments, to administering adoptions, to construction and maintenance. They will also be involved in mercy ministries in the squatter camp of Freedom Park on the outskirts of Runtenburg, South Africa. In Freedom Park, they will visit patients in teh final stages of AIDS, bringing them food and water and praying for them.

Wow, that's some amazing things those people are doing down there.
Everything from taking children to doctors appointments, to administering adoptions, to construction and maintenance… visiting patients in the final stages of AIDS, bringing them food and water and praying for them.
Is it just the two of them?

I think there's no way of justifying one charity over another
Who wants to make the call as to which is more deserving? So I have to agree that a recognised Rox charity is the sensible choice here. I would also (allowing myself a selfish opinion) prefer any charity chosen to be not affiliated with any religious group.

These are both good charities..
the only problem I have with choosing one of them is that Rockies players contracts are setup to donate directly to them. Aaron Cook has a $30,000 clause in his.

Speaking of Purple Row Cares
Charlie77, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart…a lil’ package showed up about six days ago. And yes, my sweetie shed a tear when she saw it….can’t wait for the day she can wear it. We are so touched.
Which reminds me, this is as good a place to share as any…she’s leaving ICU for a Long Term Acute Care Hospital on Monday. Yup, in three days (barring anything entirely unexpected at this point). Alas, given how long this has been, she will not be making a Coors Field appearance this year, but maybe the LTAC TVs have FSRM unlike here in the ICU…
Now I gotta buy an insulated coffee mug.

It just occurred to me that I have an online acquaintance
whose husband (I’ve met both of them in real life once) is a doctor specializing in pulmonology. I think he’s usually at National Jewish in Denver and mostly does research, but does treat patients in special cases. It’s highly unlikely, but it would be an interesting coincidence if he had ever treated your wife.
Anyway, I’m very glad to hear that things seem to be looking up for you and her.

Shedding tears of happiness for you
What a struggle the two of you have endured. I admire both of you more than I can say. WOOT! Leaving ICU. Wonderful, marvelous, etc., etc..
As for Coors Field…well, it’ll be there next season. The return will be all the more sweet for both of you. Many thanks for the update!

Honestly,
if it’s for charity, I’ll buy a shirt for an old friend of mine who’s an Arizonan but a huge Rox fan. But I am curious as to where the money is going.
