Gladly sharing a name with Dexter Fowler!

by ShadowPenguin on Sep 2, 2009 9:08 PM MDT up reply actions

Heh

This reminds me of how my dad always complains whenever lawmakers from the east coast want to lower speed limits. How they don’t get that you simply cannot go only 55 or 60 through many parts of the western states.

by holly96 on Sep 2, 2009 9:06 PM MDT up reply actions

Are these NY state lawmakers?

It’s not like most east coasters drive slowly.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

by FooMan on Sep 2, 2009 9:08 PM MDT up reply actions

I don't know.

I just know the speed limit issue comes up every now and then and east coast lawmakers don’t get how desolate much of the west is. It’s not about driving slow as it is about there being nothing around for hundreds of miles.

by holly96 on Sep 2, 2009 9:10 PM MDT up reply actions

They should all required to drive 55 through Kansas once

And they will gladly bump the speed limit to 90

Gladly sharing a name with Dexter Fowler!

by ShadowPenguin on Sep 2, 2009 9:11 PM MDT up reply actions

Exactly what my dad would say.

Although I think he’s generally pretty okay with 75 (which means going at least 80).

by holly96 on Sep 2, 2009 9:13 PM MDT up reply actions

If you've ever driven 55 through upstate NY

even though parts are pretty, you’d want the speed limit bumped up.

Leave Dexter alone! You're lucky he even performs for you!

by FooMan on Sep 2, 2009 9:18 PM MDT up reply actions

Went 90 on the Jersey Turnpike

two years ago. Well, I wasn’t the one driving, but we went 90. And we avoided all the troopers along the way.

Just some good-natured fun. I love NYC.

One whole half of my family is from NYC, and it is rather amusing when they visit some of the places we’ve lived over the years. The first time someone born and raised in Brooklyn visits a place like Iowa, that could be a reality show on its own, right there.

The worldview’s definitely a bit different…

I"m not a stathead..

but I think his trend for the better part of the season has been rock solid and clutch. He’s hit over .300 for most of the season April through July. For the past 2 months its dropped off. But when he’s hitting its clutch typically, 2 out, RISP, and tonight a double that got the rally going after Tulo walked. For me, I’d rather see a CarGo left, Dex CF, Hawpe right.

That’s just my opinion. I don’t see how you can ignore over .300 hiting for most of the season..

by SDcat09 on Sep 2, 2009 9:43 PM MDT up reply actions

I think Seth has a great shot at being a better than .300 hitter

as well and he’s a better defensive player. Look, don’t get me wrong, I really like Hawpe and I’m not excited to see him gone, but this team might have a better OF w/ Dex, Cargo, and Smith.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

by smokinRox on Sep 2, 2009 9:47 PM MDT up reply actions

And I respectfully disagree...

so we’ll just have to agree to disagree :)

by SDcat09 on Sep 2, 2009 9:47 PM MDT up reply actions

Here's the issue, he's completely caught in one of the best problems in baseball

Which is, too many good players on a team. With CarGo and Fowler being all electric, fast, and awesome and whatnot, you can’t help but to give them starts. Also, Smith is way more clutch than Hawpe is, and you can’t even argue that. He’s almost as good a hitter as Hawpe, and a better fielder. When Fowler is not injured, Smith is unrightly the odd man out, because Hawpe is the veteran. Relax for now though, because Hawpe won’t be going anywhere soon, but in the offseason, trading him would be the correct baseball move because Smith is the better upcoming player.

by bballrox4717 on Sep 2, 2009 9:48 PM MDT up reply actions

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

At least, until after the postseason and then tinker away.

by Justus on Sep 2, 2009 9:50 PM MDT up reply actions

That's what I had said

No way is he going anywhere now, but after the postseason, trading him at a high value would be the right move.

by bballrox4717 on Sep 2, 2009 9:51 PM MDT up reply actions

Yeah, I was agreeing with you.

I will say this rather emphatically: Brad Hawpe must be traded in the offseason.

by Justus on Sep 2, 2009 9:54 PM MDT up reply actions   1 recs

I don't think that type of change should be made now

and I think Hawpe has turned himself into an above average hitter, so credit him for that, but in the off season I think the Rox will look to possibly deal Hawpe.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

by smokinRox on Sep 2, 2009 9:25 PM MDT up reply actions

I think I would prefer that too

but Franklin has taken very nicely to the bullpen. As far as starters go, it seems like if you have a guy who has the potential to start and dominate, he needs to be starting. I hope he gets a look next year with Marquis likely being gone.

by BittenAnkles on Sep 2, 2009 9:34 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm pretty sure he will.

He just has to stay in the bullpen the rest of this year because he’s been dominant and because he’s not stretched out enough. But I really want him to start next year, a guy with his arsenal.
