and this matters even if you feel the Braves are the Rockies biggest threat. The Marlins losing a game or two will allow us to fully root for them when the play the Braves M-W. If both teams were to sweep their weekend series, we’d be faces with one of them putting together at least a 5-1 run (3 game weekend sleep, plus 2 of 3 at the minimum for the winner of the Braves/Marlins series)

especially with baseball prospectus giving the Rockies a 1/3 of 1% chance to win the division. personally, their numbers just don’t ring true. Down 6 with 9 to go and 3 against the Dodgers translates to slim chances, but certainly better than 0.033%.

Maybe I'm alone, but I'm really not worried at all.
My gut instincts are top notch too. ;) I had the Pads winning 2 of the 3.
I don’t, however, think it would be a terrible thing if the race stayed close(or got even closer). Right now we’re playing lackadaisical and need to step up the intensity. Teams who lock up their spots earlier tend to coast until the playoffs actually start. Where as the WC winner generally is in a race until the finish, and never loses a step….which as history has shown, helps greatly once the postseason does begin. We need to get that fire back.

I couldn't have said it better as to the reasoning behind the great success of wild card
teams in the playoffs.
However, the subject would ring a little more genuine to me if it read: “I’m only just slightly worried”. For a Nervous Nellie such as myself, I’m very worried.

On Bakers HR last night, the Giants TV producer flashed to the outfield scoreboard
showing the Rockies having lost 5-4 when the count reached 0-2 with 2 outs in the 9th. After the HR, Giants announcer Mike Krukow had this to say “He’s gonna be a name in their shares meeting and I think his share just went up”

I've disliked Giambi for years
But this thing he’s done for the Rox has been pretty amazing.
I assume he’s getting roid-tested every other day, so this must be a case of a 40-yr-old giving it one last shot at being a real, honest ballplayer.
At least that’s how I choose to look at it as he & Tulo carry the Rox to the playoffs.

That highlight of Yorvit's sac fly wasn't nearly long enough
