I don't think I need to elaborate on the magnitude of every game from now through Sunday. Colorado starter Jason Marquis says he's fixed an mechanical issue that has been causing him to struggle. I certainly hope he's not pulling my leg. Meanwhile, the Brewers will send Chris Narveson out to the hill. The Rockies, who as everybody knows are world-beaters against fastballs, will face a guy who throws the ol' number one 63.8% of the time. Compare that to Adam Wainwright (yes, the guy that kept the Rockies off balance with breaking balls all night on Saturday on his way to 11 strikeouts), who throws fastballs just 49.7% of the time. So, the solution is obvious: CRUSH THIS GUY.

Having Yorvit back there definitely makes runners more aggressive and willing to steal on 0-0 or 1-0 counts than they are with other catchers. I don’t know if Cameron takes off that early with Yadier Molina as the backstop.

A league average catcher has a much better arm than Torrealba
The same applies. If you’ve been watching the Braves Marlins game, nobody’s stealing early in the count, same with Astros/Phillies and these are teams that have plenty of burners. Torrealba’s arm is certainly costing the Rockies runs, it’s just a matter of how much and how big of an impact it’s having in relation to his positive attributes.
I don't disagree.
But that particular steal was stolen on most catchers, I think. No way to know for sure how often he would have gone.
And I think you also have to look at the pitchers when evaluating steals.

You know this is the funny thing...
If anybody ever sees me at a Rockies game, they will never know it’s me because of my Torrealba jersey. Not Helton, not Walker, not Tulowitzki, a Yorvit Torrealba jersey, and not even being ironic about it either. All the hatred I have for this player and he’s the only guy I’ve ever bought a jersey of. I bought the Rockies stocking cap because I saw him wearing it before Rocktober and thought he looked awesome in it. You guys are making me sick with these baseless accusations about a hatred for a player that I’ve always been fond of but have to fight to be neutral with.

but it sure is odd if true. “With fans like you…who needs…um, anti-fans?” The funny thing is that I saw the play and came to the computer purely in hopes that I wouldn’t see this thread, figuring some “fighting for neutrality” would win out — but disappointed again. I remain hopeful that someday someone will put together any evidence supporting the “Yorvit costs runs/games” theory because I have yet to see it. In the meantime, I’ll continue to back one of the guys helping us out every night. And y’all are obviously entitled to say whatever you want about Yorvit. I hope it makes you enjoy the ride more, not sure how it does but that’s just me.

It's not necessarily going to be about what would be best on paper.
I don’t know for sure, but I suspect not many teams would leave him off after what he’s done over the season, recent starts not withstanding. I suspect it rub A LOT of players the wrong way.

I don't even get the comparison.
Russell has never had success. So it’s not like he’s done well to begin a season and then faded. And Russell has a rep of not working hard enough. I don’t think that’s Jason’s problem.
