Have you ever?

Ok so last night I had class untill 7:30 at Auraria Campus which was agonizing trying to focus on Strategic Management while both the Rox and Braves games were going on (stupid school during strech run). To get home I have to ride the light rail over to union station and then catch a bus up into the Denver Highlands. I decided to skip going home and go to the rest of the game instead, which was a great decision. I also randomly ended up sitting one section away from my brother who I did not know was there and saw me come in during the 6th inning. The game was one of the better ones I have ever been to in person and it was funny that I ran into my brother as well.

So my question is have you ever randomly ended up at a game and something awesome happened, either in the game or the stands?

Well, round about a month ago

I was about an hour from leaving work, and someone asked if I wanted to go to the game, they had some tickets they weren’t using. So I called my wife, I said I could go, but didn’t have to, we had just been the Saturday before.

But we decided to go, luckily I had some jeans in my car I could change into. It was good to be comfortable, because the game was a long one. Ended up going 14 innings…

Si.

The tickets I was given were in the pavillion, 2nd to last section before the fountains. round about the 8th, we started moving around, and by the end were 20 rows behind the Giants dugout.

I was there too

Section next to the fountains. I didn’t move however.

Sadly, nope.

But I did end up randomly watching one inning of a Giants/Braves (I think) game once this season. At AT&T Park, there is a place in the outfield where you can enter from outside the ballpark and watch the game through a fence. I think ushers try to keep it to 3 innings. Anyway, I had missed my train and had time to kill, so I wandered over and watched about an inning. Nothing exciting happened, though.

I also walked past this area before one of the WS games between the Giants and Angels. There was a HUGE line to get in there, but as I walked past I could see some of the Angels players out in the outfield warming up. That was actually pretty neat.

Twice

hizilla emailed me and asked me if I wanted a spare ticket for Friday’s game, 90 minutes before first pitch. Walk-off win.

My roommate asked me in Sept. 2007 after class if I wanted to go to a Rockies Dodgers game. That turned out to be the Helton/Saito moment. Walk-off win.

I’ve gone last minute on the spur of the moment to two games, and both turned out to be the only two walk-off wins I have seen.

Randomly decided to go to a game last year

happened to be Greg Reynold’s first start. I thought that would be something cool, someday…guess not.

And I saw the walkoff win earlier this year with Hammel starting and Atkins scoring at a play at the plate.

My dad got tix for last night from his job.

He came home & told us, we got ready & left. Got there at the bottom of the 1st.
Greatest seats and view (right by the dugout).
Best game I’ve been to!

Opposite end...

I had tickets to the game where Helton hit the home run off of Saito. It was delayed from a cancelled game earlier in the year from rain. I didn’t use the tickets because I had work and KNEW the Rockies were out of it. I’ll never do that again.

Like I'm sure some of you did, I went

to game 3 of the world series and it was so cool. It was so different from all the other playoff games here in Colorado. (avs, nuggets) There was such a sense of community. May be weird but I was sitting in the Rockpile and decided to walk down to the concourse to watch an inning. Holliday hit his homerun a few rows down in the section I was sitting. It was crazy, people I didnt know were high fiving and hugging and jumping into each other.

hey rockiesdave

did u have to buy a ticket then since u came in at the 6th and if so is it cheaper after a few innings?

by purplesocks on Sep 30, 2009 4:26 PM MDT reply actions

yeah I did

there wasn’t a discount either and had to pay 12 bucks. I could of bought one from a scalper for 5 but didn’t have any cash on me cause I wasn’t orignally planning on going to the game.

2007 NLCS Game 3.

Sitting in Section 202 with my kid. It’s cold but we’re sheltered from the drizzle. About 20 minutes before the opening pitch we’re sitting in our seats and out of the corner of my eye i see something falling from the ceiling – i’m talking about a piece of the stadium now a little larger than a softball – not some empty soda cup — it drops down on some unsuspecting fan in the second row. Dude lets out a huge yell (the thing was METAL – lucky he wasn’t killed and i didn’t understand how it didn’t get on the evening news) as it hits his knee. Coors Field personnel come running over to attend to the guy. He seems ok but no one is taking chances (that he sues them probably) so he and his friend are whisked away, presumably to the owner’s Suite.

My son and I upgrade our seats.

True story, and i never understood how it didn’t get a lot of attention. That falling piece could have killed or very seriously injured someone. It was definitely a “holy sh!t” moment amongst those of us who had taken our seats, all of us looking at each other with a “did you just see that!?!” look on our faces.

Seeing the Rockies clinch the Wild Card tomorrow

And speaking of that, I have an extra ticket, Section 119, Row 5 available at what it cost me: $25. If you’re intersted post something here or send me an email to:

Game 4 NLCS 2007, both for the game action, and for the celebration afterwards, with the Rockies and in particular Todd Helton going to the World Series.

Brandon Hynick’s perfect game in Colorado Springs this June.

Rox’ 2007 games 162 and 163.

Denny McClain’s 31st win in 1968, and the home run that he let Mickey Mantle hit when he had a nice, safe lead. (I think that was Mantle’s last career HR).

Catching a Darrel Evans batting practice HR in ’84 from the right-field “home run porch” at Tiger Stadium.

Barry Bonds just missing the “Hit It Here” target on the upper deck at Coors in the All Star Game. Had he hit it, some fan would have won $1,000,000. The 1 in 50,000 odds would have been much better than the Lotto or Powerball odds.

Wanted to go a Rox game here in SD. My friend couldn’t go any other night. Game lasted 22 innings!

That was pretty fun.

Dear Rockies - Do not make me live in a world where John Kruk is right....

Troy Tulowitzki - THE best SS in the game..nuff said
Yorvit Torrealba - En Fuego con RISP
Brad Hawpe- Hawpetober anyone?(thanks Mr. Rockie)

yep I was there..

Three 7th inning stretches. I was sitting in left field behind Matt Holliday, under the Western Metal Supply company building. Matty was getting harrassed quite a bit, the whole home plate bitterness thing. Unfortunately, my friend wimped out after the 18th inning. So I went home and watched the last innings curled up on the sofa in my jammies and a pillow. And I had to be to work at 8 the next morning. By noon, I was loopy…er. I still have the ticket stub:)

It really was pretty amazing.

Dear Rockies - Thank you for proving John Kruk is a doofus.

Troy Tulowitzki - THE best SS in the game..nuff said

Brad Hawpe- Big Bad Brad Hawpe is Back BABY!
Dexter Fowler - prowling CF, perched on the Wild Card, stalking the Dodgers!

This Year

Got back home after being out of town for a few months, and picked a game that we could fit a trip back to CO around.

Got to the game and found I was in the same section as a guy I went to high school with. And it was a really small school, too.

Walk-off 2-run RBI single for Seth Smith. Great game.
