Rockies Close to Signing Paul Lo Duca
Seems strange that the club (specifically, Jim Tracy) is preaching the fact that they haven't lost confidence in Chris Iannetta, yet they're about to make this move. I guess it doesn't hurt, though - it looks like they'll only offer him a minor league deal. We'll keep you updated.

Oh, and sorry if this has already been posted in the comments
from the past two Rockpiles and the Street/Betancourt news. For some reason, I can’t view them at work. Must be some bad language in there :)

this probably speaks more to lack of faith in Olivo or Phillips

This
better not speak of lack of faith in Olivo, or we shouldn’t have paid him so much. Lo Duca has been acting as an announcer for horseracing since he last played ball. I seriously, seriously doubt that anyone is thinking he’ll impact the big-league roster.
This is only a minor deal so it really doesn't matter that much
but I’m not sure I like this signing.

Shoulda kept Torrealba
I’d rather them pay a little extra for Torrealba than have Olivo and Lo Duca as backups.
we didn't "not keep him"
we met like 95% of his demands and he still balked at it. Screw that.

I still don't understand this situation. He wanted more money upfront, I think, than they wanted to pay.
Why shouldn’t he want that…?

Brad Hawpe- UZR isn't everything!
Dexter Fowler- The Bedazzler- Blinding speed, blinding smile, leaps Utleys in a single bound.
He should, but that doesn't mean he can have it!
I’d love more money upfront, too, but I don’t think demanding it from my boss is going to get me it…
I guess what I'm getting at is....
how many contracts are structured this way? Is it unusual? I still think the FO may have misstepped by announcing CDI’s contract before coming to terms with Torrealba. Perhaps he would have taken the deal if that hadn’t been announced.
I don’t know. I’m just trying to understand. Its just bizarre to me…

I negotiate deals every day
And ultimately, every party has to have a bottom line. In this case, the Rox weren’t prepared to meet Yorvit’s demands, and Yorvit wasn’t prepared to meet theirs. I’m sure both tried, but ultimately they both have to share responsibility for not reaching agreement.

How much responsibility will Lincecum share if he can't come to terms after the Giants offered him 8 million? :-)

RMN is sort of right
Though you have to think that if the Rox are happy to go to $6m, then Yorvit’s initial valuation was a) right and b) worth persisting with.
true, but can you at least reach over just a little tiny bit?

loved torrealba
but i agree with RMN. i thought that was pretty bush league and it’ll be interesting to see how much cash he gets to play somewhere else. he might just luck out though, because it looks like it’s time for him to meet the mets, greet the mets and subsequently cheat the mets out of some of their never ending extra bags of money.
Signing Lo Duca
means pretty much nothing. Tracy and Lo Duca go back to their days in LA. If Tracy were dumb enough to actually want to start Lo Duca over Iannetta on a full-time basis, it’d be wise to check him into a mental facility.
And Tracy isn’t that dumb.
It will cost the club up to $400,000
Not sure I want that wasted when we have 4 catchers already (and Rosario in the wings), especially not on a(nother) drug cheat.
They need someone
who knows what they are doing to catch the kids every day in camp.
Hating Cubs fans since 1908
i doubt it has to do with Iannetta
Since they recently signed him to a long term deal. I agree with others that it is insurance for Olivo.
Thanks for a great season of Baseball!
I'll be back next year for another ride.

I'm actually okay with that part of it
but then again I’m on the conservative end of things when it comes to bringing up prospects…
anyway, I can’t say I understand this move, really.

No
I think he might have played a couple of games there early in his career but I don’t think he played there at all for the last several.

Our currnet 3b
has been known to start at 2B, even the day after someone else was awarded the position. Wait new regime, I don’t think that will ever happen again.
JFK
Forget the DP
I enjoyed watching him range to his left and make that off-balance, spinning(?) throw to first. Good play from anyone, and he pulled it off well.
JFK
that was such an awesome DP
running over to 2B, touching the bag, throwing to 1B

Depth is good
If he can really outplay Iannetta or Olivio then give him a chance. If he can’t it is a minor league contract so no really loss if he is cut late in spring training.
if he can outplay Iannetta or Olivo then black will have become white and up will be down

an atypically volatile mother earth has been a hot topic of discussion lately :/
I have luckily avoided natural disasters myself. I was pretty close to the floodplain in the Fort Collins 97 flood. Also, while living a block off the Danube in Budapest, the river flooded, submerging my tram route to school and almost all of the island that part of “Munich” was filmed on

The flood of 97 was on my birthday.
There were eight or so tweens stuck in a half-flooded house. It was kind of awesome.

You can never have too many catchers
But he was only good thanks to PED’s and will probably pull a hamie the first week of spring.
The worst of this is it will probaly take a big league camp spot away from someone who could benifit from it and will take playing time form someone at AAA.
He does not have a chance on making the team and I for the life of me can’t see the up side in this signing.
I think the upside is there is no upside
we are set to the point where a washed up catcher has no place in our camp. He knows it, we know it, the Front Office knows it. It’s a good thing.
Attention Whore.
hey, we dont need a kip wells type anymore!

how about we sign Mark Mulder?
Here are some stats
FYI, he is a ground ball pitcher.
Sign or do not sign? Are we pass reclaiming projects or….
Making facetious trade rumors since 2012AD
I'd be ok with a MLC
but with a seemingly full rotation, including backups, I don’t think he’d be able to get the playing time needed to really say ‘wow what a good idea’

But I’m still pretty certain one or two teams will be offering him major league deals, and he’d be silly to take an MLC in light of that.
I’m pretty comfortable with where our starting pitching’s at now…and for a few years going forward.
