Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

As mentioned in a Rockpile previously, Schemmel has received Jeff's spot in the booth. I can't wait for the season to start so I can get used to hearing his call!

I just saw this on an e-mail from KOA and was coming to post something.

Whatever mods are around should move this to the front page.

I’ll miss Jeff a lot, but it will be good to have a familiar voice sliding into his chair.

Good hire.

I’m looking forward to hearing him in this role. He’s an outstanding announcer.

If Schemmel uses “JUMANJI” for a home-run call like he did for so many big Nuggets three-pointers in the past, it will be so, so awesome.

Oh god I would love it

I forgot about JUMANJI. If anyone else tried that line, they might be lined up with “Boom Goes the Dynamite” guy, but Schemm owns it.

That'd be awesome

The best ones I’ve ever heard are two hockey guys.

Randy Moller of the Florida Panthers is awesome. “Shot scoooooore! I’m an iron farmer!”

Rick Jeanneret of the Buffalo Sabres is the other great one. He acts like every goal is overtime in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. “La-la-la-la-lafontaine!”

I hate the Red Wings.

Randy Moller is gold

but it’s “lead farmer”

My bad

Hadn’t listened to it in awhile. That guy is hilarious, though.

I like the Avs announcer on radio...Mose?

He’s fantastic…“MY GOODNESS”"

Dear Rockies-Thank you for a wonderful season! Best turnaround in MLB history to become NL Wild Card Champs.

Mark Moser.

It kinda rankles me that the PBP guys for both major winter sports teams in Denver are two studio guys who just kind of glommed on to the top jobs after the more talented guys in front of them (Schemmel and Mike Haynes) moved on to bigger gigs. I’m not a fan of either Koz or Moser, to be honest, as I think their passion is there but their craft is lacking. But then, I do what they do for a living so that makes me either more critical or more prone to professional jealousy. I’m not sure which this is, but I know what I like from a play-by-play guy and in my (admittedly limited) exposure to both men, I’m not impressed.

I think Moser does great play by play and has passion..

can’t speak for Haynes….

Moser's not bad for not really being a PBP guy

I don’t think that the Avs did much of a search when John Kelly left for St. Louis. They came up with Doug McLeod (who was the announcer in the motion picture “Mystery, Alaska”), and he was just tremendously awful. They got so many complaints that they fired him in his 1st month.

So they moved Haynes to TV, and Norm Jones took over as PBP guy on radio. Really, I wish that they’d left Haynes on radio. He was much better there than as a TV guy, though he’s still pretty good. There’s a guy named Tori Holt that broadcasts Colorado Eagles games that I think would be great on TV for the Avalanche, and he sometimes works in the studio for them. I wish they’d gotten him.

I hate the Red Wings.

for those who don't know what you're referring to:

“(Schemmel) is also a survivor of the crash-landing of United Airlines Flight 232 on July 19, 1989; after escaping he returned to the wreckage to rescue an 11 month old baby.”

Schemmel’s an all around good guy, too and I’ve always liked his calls on the Nuggs. And in case anyone’s concerned about having a basketball guy do baseball, he was interviewed on KOA last night and he said that announcing baseball has been his life-long dream. He was a college baseball player and recently took a minor league announcing gig just so he could get baseball experience. I think he’ll be great.

Also

Schemmel was the head baseball coach at Metro State last year.

This season, he took over as the voice of the CSU Rams football and men’s basketball following the death of the longtime voice of the Rams Rich Bircumshaw last spring.

He’ll be great. I can’t wait to hear it.

I hate the Red Wings.

Most fascinating

This is the second time that Schemmel has succeeded Jeff Kingery in a job.

YES! That guy is AMAZING! I’m so stoked for this, haha
