Bob Feller was THE pitcher of my father's generation. Before WW2 outside of Abilene Texas a boy becoming a man built a Crystal radio and fashioned a home made thirty foot antenna. He attached that antenna to the top of a seventy foot tall pecan tree just to listen to Indians' home games .
This drew the ire of his grandfather and father. Not that they weren't baseball fans. Lightening killed the tree. In the depression they could not afford store bought pecans. They never had one of his grandmother's home made pecan pies again! The manchild was my Dad.
