What Does Your Avatar Mean?
The sequel to Andrew T. Fisher's "What does Your Name Mean?".
Everybody should have an avatar.
If you don't, get one. (Really, it would be nice, but I guess you don't have to. But if you don't you can't be a part of this fanpost!)
Okay, avatars are a way to represent or even picture oneself. So, explain how/why you chose your avatar. Is it just a picture of one of your favorite players or moments? Is it something that you feel represents you/your likes/background? An actual picture? Where was it taken?
Have fun!
Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).

My avatar was first a cartoon me I made.
Then I photoshoped a Rox hoodie (hopfully the one I’m going to buy) onto it.
My last one was the MLB power pro pic of Kaz Matsui. Mlb Power pros is my favorite baseball video game.
(By the way I made my cartoon in weeworld. I also made another in meez, which has Rocckies jerseys, if any of you are interested in making a cartoon you.)

Looking at this
Dex could have just leveled Chase for being in the basepath.

I was amazed at that move, and still am.
Wouldn’t Dexter have been called for interference if he’d leveled Utley?

That's a myth
The fielder has the right to the ball. The runner has to make an attempt to get out of the way. It’s an annoying rule, but it’s the rule. The logic behind it is that the fielder can’t control where the ball goes.
I hate the Red Wings.
The way I understand the rule is that if the fielder has the ball,
the runner can be called for interference if he levels the fielder. However if the fielder doesn’t have the ball then the runner has the right to the basepaths and can do whatever they want to the fielder (as long as the fielder is in the basepaths).

It may be different in the big leagues
Every other level of baseball and softball that I’ve been involved with, the runner has to give the fielder the chance to get the ball. If the fielder has to stop, though, the runner can be called out and the ball ruled dead due to interference.
One caveat is that the fielder can’t just stand in the basepath, such as it is. It’s up to the umpire’s discretion then as to whether it’s interference or obstruction.
Another sticking point is that, any place on the field where this could potentially happen, there is not set basepath. It’s determined by the path that the runner takes. The only set basepath is for the batter-runner from home to 1st base.
Finally, this only applies on batted balls, as I understand it. Obstruction/Interference is the most confusing rule in the book. It’s pretty discretionary.
I hate the Red Wings.
I was actually looking for the rule earlier and couldn't find anything concrete when it came to deatials
I think your’e right when you say that it’s pretty discretionary, especially when trying to determain whether a fielder needed to stand in that spot to field the ball.

I was an umpire
The fielder has a right to field a batted ball, the runner must avoid him, even in the basepath. Rule 7.08b.
You and wtnelson are right
Thanks for the info.

Thanks for sharing, that was a neat piece of history..
I was especially impressed with the daughter’s quick thinking in the 1890’s..
Keeper Curtis and his wife, Christina, had to go ashore one day. They left their daughter, Mabel, alone on the island. Thick fog suddenly rolled in. Young Mabel couldn’t get the fog bell mechanism started, so she grabbed a hammer and manually rang the bell, approximating its official time sequence for several hours until her parents returned.

I was visiting home, and took my (then) fiancee to her first Rockies game. She brought along her camera and took several pictures of the opening ceremonies and game. Later, after I had registered here, I was looking through her camera and thought that one would make a good avatar. I need a new one; perhaps nest time I make it to Coors I’ll take another.

I started blogging on FanNation, which is an SI fan website. (Not to toot my own horn, but I got the prestigious FanNation 2009 Blogger of the Year award from a group of fans that decided to give out awards. OK, that was to toot my own horn.)
Unwittingly, I used a series of avatars of guys with crazy hair, starting with notorious Slap Shot goon Ogie Oglethorpe. There was an ongoing commentary on my hair, which kept up when I changed it to a picture of Willie Nelson (which, incidentally, is my name). A few days later, I switched to another Slap Shot character, the immortal Clarence “Screaming Buffalo” Swamptown.
A guy that was new to the site started calling me “Big Chief”, and I jut kinda ran with it. My current Sitting Bull avatar has been in use for quite sometime, and I only change it for special occasions. It’s uniquely mine, and I use it for an awful lot of things now. I even incorporate “Big Chief” into my FanNation username these days.

Mine is Calvin and Hobbes
because I like to think of myself as someone who has studied the philosophy of the Dynamic Duo over the years and if I had to pick a religion, it would be that of C&H. There’s just so much good stuff in those comics that stretch far beyond being funny that the older I got, the more I started noticing the reading between the lines and picking out the lessons to be applied to my life. Ruv u, C&H.
