Pre-FanFest Giants news: Posey could work at other positions, Lincecum tries to take contract haggling in stride | Extra Baggs
In an article filled with notes on the Giants, Andrew Baggarly indicates that Bruce Bochy wants Buster Posey to get some playing time at first base. This way Posey won't start the season in the minors. But apparently, Posey had no idea about this until Baggarly told him.

In the Giants article:
FWIW, to this observer, Posey looked bigger. Pablo Sandoval did not look smaller.

This made me laugh.

If you're gonna do it, do it.

Don’t half ass it.

A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

What does re-signing Kenny Perez have anything to do with the shortstop position?

Short-term solution turning into

a long-term solution in case the young ‘uns don’t pan out. But Kenny Perez is neither a short-term nor a long-term solution.

No, I don't think so, but then I haven't really looked

I had Nick Swisher, but he’s a boring, self-congratulatory Yankee :)

If anyone finds Rockies, post their feeds!

Gah...I keep avoiding it...

but I have this feeling I might have to get twitter. Though why anyone would care what I’m doing is really beyond me…then I can follow Rockies and ex-Rockies.

BtBS has pitching Diamond Views

They look pretty cool. Maybe they’ll do a series giving a team-by-team look like they’re doing with the batters.

by controlled_slide on Feb 8, 2010 1:17 PM MST reply actions   0 recs

these are great

it does give you a pretty clear idea of what type of pitcher they represent. Very concise, I approve.

Attention Whore.

I agree.

I’m not sure how to interpret durability and batted-ball info, but it’s interesting to see how a pitcher compares to his peers.

I thought it was interesting that so far, about half of the comments are from Rowbots.

High concentration of stat nerds.

By the way, Fangraphs has splits up on their player pages now. I looked at Caber’s and even though I knew what to expect, I was driven to tears.

by phishbate on Feb 8, 2010 1:56 PM MST up reply actions   0 recs

His splits are really confusing

and ridden with unsustainable numbers both good and bad.

I’m totally stoked to see what happens when he gets a full season of plate appearances (though he got a fair amount last season albeit somewhat irregularly)…

baseball fever at 103

or rather, according to my fam I have an incurable baseball illness…they generally didn’t appreciate my switching to the mlb network to watch bits of the Caribbean WS during Super Bowl commercial breaks. Although they did eventually amuse themselves wondering if Coca-Cola or Orange was winning :*

Anyone else do this? And/or get so much crap for doing it? :)

The title should read: Yankees fans first become aware of Randy Winn’s existence
