ooh, first, and this will be my only comment of the thread
The best things in life are Tulo dingers, Ubaldo strikeouts, and Iannetta BBs.
This will be a test of the Rockies' unnaturally good hitting prowess so far this spring.

You’re awfully generous russ. I would love love love to beat up on the most dominant pitcher from the more offensive-talented league

I like Francis for lots of reasons
But I remember I was at game 162 in ‘07, and when the players went around the field throwing stuff to the fans, I caught a hat that he threw. I called it my Jeff Francis hat. And that’s reason #49 that I like Jeff Francis.

Pregame question
It will be good news today if Francis’ velocity regularly hits _.
Fill in the blank.
New decade, new result: time for a Rockies' division championship.
I say 88 mph.
Less than that & he’s in late-career Tom Glavine territory.
New decade, new result: time for a Rockies' division championship.
It will be good news today if Francis’ velocity regularly hits arm doesn’t fall off.

All I want right now is for Francis to make sure he can throw at all.
We need him to be effective this season, and I’d rather worry about his health than about his velocity right now. I’d rather him need a bit more seasoning now than rush him into throwing hard, only to see him peter out when we need him.

it is only
his third inning of throwing…he needs to give it time, and not push himself to hard too fast…Get some good location today, and get through another couple of innings without hurting himself…
Ninety feet between home plate and first base may be the closest man has ever come to perfection. ~Red Smith
Honestly
I think his velocity IS part of his health. When he was healthy, he was hitting low 90s on his fastball, but his injury forced him down to 83 mph maximum. If he can’t hit velocity, he may as well be broken, because he’ll be 08 Francis all over again.

You can't tell a recovering long distance runner to run at his competitive pace until he takes a few jogs to gauge his condition.
His velocity IS part of his healthy, but it’s another step up the ladder.

I see what you mean
But on the other hand, I feel like the ‘few jogs’ should be taken from bullpen sessions and simulated games. He doesn’t need to throw himself out (obviously), but he definitely has something to prove, especially since Greg Smith is healthy now too.

I would argue that it's not a situational recovery time.
When rehabbing an injury, you can’t just pick and choose in what situations you give your best when there are so many questions about your condition. Francis needs to be cautious in EVERY throwing situation right now, not just the ones on the back field.

I encourage LA’s bullpen to pitch exactly like that against us all year.

Not to my recollection.
He’s either manned CF for Dex or RF instead of Hawpe, I think.
I remember Smith, EY2, and Mora all playing left, along with Payton and Garner. But not CarGo.
Do we know who is scheduled to pitch after Jeff today?
Might we finally get to see Christian Friedrich?
Only three extra pitchers, interesting.
So I’m guess the plan is for Jeff to pitch three and Redding, Corpas, and Rincon to each pitch 2?
Unless we’re giving Rincon one inning so he can practice for when he becomes our closer, of course.

I always wonder, what happens when a pitcher goes out in ST
mows down batters in the innings he is scheduled to work but doesn’t get the pitches they need to see outta him, or the opposite, too many pitches…
What is the level of importance? getting 6 or 9 outs or throwing lets say 50-70 pitches?

I plan on going to Kansas City in May
Rockies vs Royals May 21, 22, 23. Anyone been there? Nice stadium? Any thing I should to for sure or avoid?
What if the hokey pokey is what it is all about after all????
I lived in central Kansas for 6 years

What if the hokey pokey is what it is all about after all????
Just looking for something different
I can go up into the mountains any time I want. Want to see different ball parks. I have only been to Coors and the Ball Park in Arlington. It is close, and I can go cheap. Leaving the kids with the grandparents. Little baseball and gold with my wife. More to realaxe than anything.

Dunno if I want to see the remake
The original holds this special place of “what in the crap was that?” in my head. Not sure I want anyone to come along with their CGI and try to make sense out of it.

ok but anyone here...do you really think he would take
the long reliever role outta the pen? and I think that’s all we have to offer, cuz G. Smith is the 6th starter (fingers crossed) and Reddings too proud to play in AAA

Oh I agree he probably won't be on the team anyway
and that he won’t want to take the long reliever role, but I just want to make the chances of him being on the team as close to zero as possible.
