Purple Row's 2010 CBSSports.com Commissioner League Draft, Rules, and Scoring Discussion

Once again, if you're looking for an award-winning fantasy baseball league, use this link to get 50% off a CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball Commissioner League.

CBSSports.com is an SB Nation partner and paying sponsor of the SB Nation baseball communities.
This post is one of a series of sponsor endorsed posts related to the CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball Commissioner League.

Now that I have that out of the way, for those in the league let's use this to figure out how we want the league to be run. First, let's settle on draft time. I'm thinking of a draft time around 11 ET/9 MT. I can't do any drafts in the afternoon unless they are on a Monday or Wednesday. The draft must take place between the 18th and the 24th.

Scoring? Right now it's a standard 5x5 league, but I can add more categories. I can also create special categories out of the stats they use.

All other topics on the league are welcomed.

For those wondering who will compete:

  1. Russ - The Fighting First
  2. ATF - ATF
  3. Andrew/RMN - WAR SABR WOBA LOL
  4. Jeff/Jabbs - Lords of the Diamond
  5. Bryan - BK
  6. Resolution - this.machine.will.destroy.you!!1
  7. arpagamos - Nickerbockers
  8. tulolgit2quit - Team 8
  9. NZ314 - Los Pícaros
  10. GoRockies!! - Team 10
  11. Muzia - Highway to Helton
  12. Squab - Outcastes
  13. Roxsucca - Rocky Mountain Bombers
  14. Charlie 77 - Segway UZR

I expanded the league by two so everyone who expressed interest could play. If you haven't changed your team name yet, please do so.

For anyone who is not in the league, but wants to follow the standings you can check it out here.

As I mentioned previously,

I’m obligated to have posts on the fantasy league. Once April comes you’ll only see posts like this once a month. However, if there’s any interest in more I can do it. But I doubt there’s much interest in that.

I think it will be more fun to talk smack here..

Than on the CBS site. Because it will be a more public forum.

If you look at my team name, and you understand what it means that I almost named my team the Screaming Eagles, then you should be able to guess my profession. In which case you will know that I have an opinion on your team name.

I'm down with that draft time

I guess Sunday night is better for me. Tues night also works well (in fact probably better)

Tuesday night..

Hmm what time would we be talking about there??

by CentralCaliRox on Mar 11, 2010 8:58 PM MST up reply actions

I really don't want to auto-draft :/

Later on in the night would be good, around 8 mountain time would work for me.. But if I have to auto-draft it’s okay.

it sounds like I am the only way who would require tuesday

looks like an autodraft for me

I can probably do Tuesday night – but we’re talking about the 23rd, right?

The weekend works great.

My weekdays are packed with school & baseball, so if I had a vote I’d go for either Saturday or Sunday at any time during those days.

Can you change your team's name?

And customize it?? I want to make something unique I guess..

Yes,

I didn’t realize that I had to check a box to allow everyone to change their team names.

Sunday Night at 9pm works great for me...

Sunday Night at 9pm would be ideal.

Would still like everyone to consider the possibility of trading picks before the draft. Sportsline allows you to do this and if you get the 13th pick or something, you can trade up before the draft. Adds intrigue, drama, more…!

by Squab on Mar 11, 2010 9:00 PM MST reply actions

Just to be clear, you mean 9pm MT?

The other Purple Row Fantasy leagues that I'm running are drafting Tuesday the 23rd...

I will be out of the country until likely the 21st. So yeah, not before that Sunday please and preferably not on Tuesday night. Sunday night should work.

If anybody wants to join a different Fantasy Baseball League

My brother and I have a league on ESPN that is having trouble gathering owners. If you would like to join, it is called Laughing League. It is free, and I can add more slots for teams if I get enough people. I would like some good competitors, so sign up if you like.

What's the difference...?

Between a two division league with 7 teams each and one single division with 14 teams each? Any difference as far as scoring?

by Squab on Mar 12, 2010 8:26 AM MST reply actions

I'm not sure.

Given that it’s a roto league, divisions probably don’t mean much. Does our previous CBS user know?

I have used CBS for several years...

…but not with two divisions. I think there is a way to set the preferences so that it is one 14 team division. It should work that if you are leading in the WHIP category, you get 14 points. If you are in last place, you have 7 points.

Divisional leagues make more sense in head-to-head leagues.

by Squab on Mar 12, 2010 11:20 AM MST up reply actions

mistake there

meant if you are in last place, you have 1 point and so on… Typical roto scoring..

by Squab on Mar 12, 2010 11:25 AM MST up reply actions

I'm in Drew Littons FF League and its that deep..

The top 4 from each division advance to the playoffs. Its on ESPN however.

Executive Decision?

So… now that we’ve gathered feedback, I recommend that someone make an executive decision regarding…

1) Draft Time?
2) Trading picks pre-draft?

I’m cool either way, but just trying to lock down scheduling…

Thanks so much.

by Squab on Mar 13, 2010 2:26 PM MST reply actions

I'll go with Monday at 10 ET/8 MT

and yes to trading draft picks.

they’ll be a way to customize the draft — in which case you’ll be able to allow draft pick trading… If you can’t find it, no worries.

Still looking for stat categories.

Just a standard 5×5 or more categories? OPS? TB? BAA? GO/FO? I can also make new stats out of the categories they provide.

I don't think its too deep. Only 350 players...

I like the traditional 5×5 categories. I’d be open to adding more reserve slots. Waiver-wire will be rich with talent as currently constructed.
