People who would have to get injured before I would put Melvin Mora in CF

Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Spilborghs, Seth Smith, Eric Young Jr, Clint Barmes, Chris Frey, Charlie Blackmon…..

The team has made it pretty clear that they want Mora to get at least one game at basically each position (esp OF)

Who cares, it’s spring training. I’ll lead the rage brigade if he actually gets start at center during the real season.

it just makes no sense

why waste the innings on Mora when EYJ could be using them – or even better, let Fowler continue to brush up on being an awesome fielder.

EY2 will get plenty of innings in CF in the springs if he needs them.

It was Fowler’s dream as a child to be a DH in the majors, why do you want to keep dex from his dreams?

Pretenders: Jordan Danks, C.J. Retherford and Alejandro De Aza — Guillen has been floating some other names out there lately, doing his best to put some pressure on Nix and Lillibridge, but the fact is the younger Danks brother and De Aza can only offer outfield talent to the roster. Nix and Lillibridge can play outfield, as well as several infield spots. As far as Retherford, he’s a third baseman turned second baseman and a nice little camp story, but offers limited speed.

I know you guys have been talking about the announcers already...

but honestly…what is it going to take for people around baseball to realize that Coors Field is not the home run park that it once was? How many Yankee Stadiums and Citizen Bank parks are going to have to be built before “baseball people” realize that Coors really is just a good hitters park, not a PHENOMENALLY GREAT AMAZING hitters park? It is really annoying.

Check out my website...www.rockiesreview.com

by Sandlotkid8 on Mar 16, 2010 2:42 PM MDT reply actions

all they do then is talk about

how expansive coors is and all you have to do is hit a blooper because balls fly so far at coors

They said "Ian Stewart hit 25 home runs last year...

but you have to wonder how many he would have hit in another park"

Honestly, my guess is probably 25.
The Rox play 81 games at Coors, but how many games do they play in San Francisco, LA and San Diego? No one considers the fact that the Rockies have a huge disadvantage with the unbalanced schedule when it comes to hitting home runs on the road.

Check out my website...www.rockiesreview.com

Stewart has the longest home run hit in 2009 in Minute Maid Park

yes, that’s accounting for Lance Berkman and El Caballo.

No, but please sox guys, tell me how Stewart isn’t really a home run hitter.

I just wanted an excuse to talk about dolphins in wind tunnels.

I agree that thinner air = less drag on a sprinter… but the thin air also hurts oxygen intake, possibly slowing them down, as you alluded to in the above comment.

3 out of 4 sounds so much better than 2 out of 3...

by realmenwearpurple on Mar 16, 2010 3:34 PM MDT up reply actions

exactly

The endurance athlete will be hurt over the long term due to the lack of oxygen in the air – leads to less oxygen in the muscles – getting tired faster. The sprinter is “pushing” through less air than vs. sea level – and they require less oxygen to feed the muscles.

yep. but at what point does the lack of oxygen start to hurt the player?

for example, I would argue it would hurt someone like Mo Vaughn half way to the batter’s box in the first inning, while Juan Pierre may not notice it at all during a game.

3 out of 4 sounds so much better than 2 out of 3...

by realmenwearpurple on Mar 16, 2010 3:38 PM MDT up reply actions

I would consider

the whole game to be an endurance event – so you are experiancing the long term lack of oxygen on the muscles.

However – a stolen base I would consider a one time short term exposure to the same…so they could take advantage of the thinner air for speed.

This is of course assuming all things are equal. Mo Vaughn and Juan Pierre are not equal…Pierre is a better conditioned athlete…

An outing like this is atrocious, even for Spring.

It’s not just rust. Something is bothering him. Hopefully it is mental and not an injury.
