Spring Training Game #19: Scott Kazmir vs. Jeff Francis

A couple of years ago, this match-up would have been one you'd want to actually attend. Now, not so much. Francis is still on the road back from injury, and Kazmir hasn't kept up with the expectations placed on him. Time for the Rockies to beat the team that's somewhere in California. Possibly Los Angeles, historically in Anaheim. Maybe the Angels are actually from the island on LOST (oh, um, I shouldn't have done that).

Jason Giambi is incredibly scary looking but he was as friendly and accomodating as Todd Helton, if not more.
Dexter Fowler’s smile doesn’t wear off after flashing it two hundred times. He even signed a hat despite explicit rules forbidding autographs.
Justin Speier must be from the south.
Most of the Latin players (especially Jorge de la Rosa and Franklin Morales exclusing Ubaldo) were uncomfortable with the process.
Taylor Buchholz is awesome. He showed off his scars and got his arm blessed by a fan. If not for Dex, he would probably have the team’s best smiles.
Players from Tulsa are more apt to take a picture if you use their first name. Otherwise, they often assume no one knows them.
Barmes skipped past us. I was going to thank him for the interview.
Matt Belisle is a really give guy, especially for someone whose career hasn’t gone as projected. I may have a rooting interest in him.

when nobody else wanted it. Francis was signing at Hi Corbet last Sunday and he walked down the entire first base line. Moss sat in the bullpen as Jeff walked behind him. I then bent down and asked Damian what his name was (he had a jacket on and I didn’t recognize him) because I wanted to cheer for him this year. He responded with Moss and I surprised him by replying with his first name. I then asked for him to sign a ball which he did. No one else asked for his autograph.
