Spring Training Game #29: Kris Benson vs. Ubaldo Jimenez

Time to say goodbye to Hi Corbett Field. The Diamondbacks and Rockies bid farewell to to Tucson today before moving to Scottsdale next season. Oo_nrb produced a tribute to Hi Corbett in this FanPost. Let the good times roll.

Over the years, the Rockies have been mentioned as being interested in Kris Benson, but the team never bit the bullet on him--thankfully. Unless you want to walk around the Coors Field parking lot, find a van a'rockin, and then open it to find Kris and his wife Anna in there.

GO ROCKIES!

Two questions

1. Is this game on TV?
2. Is Anna there?

I lied. 3 questions. If the answer to 2 is “yes,” what is she wearing.

Man I miss the Podsedniks.

If Cargo’s power can continue, they’ll probably make dex get comfortable leading off though.

by Maris6161 on Mar 31, 2010 1:23 PM MDT up reply actions

You mean

Larry Anderson is known for something other than being the guy traded for Jeff Bagwell?

by Tom (RFTN) on Mar 31, 2010 1:54 PM MDT up reply actions

That's often mentioned as one of the alltime worst trades.

And probably correctly so, given Bagwell’s career.

But, what’s often forgotten is that Anderson provided critical late-season
bullpen help for the Sox that year & helped them get to the playoffs … exactly
what they were after in the deal.

Which does raise the question … is a late-season acquisition for that one year
ever worth giving up a top prospect for?

And Houston did the same thing in reverse — two months of Randy Johnson (who
pitched them into the playoffs) for two pitching prospects. Curt Schilling and Freddy Garcia.

So my answer to the question is, “No.”

New decade, new result: time for a Rockies' division championship.

by Maris6161 on Mar 31, 2010 2:04 PM MDT up reply actions

That brings up an interesting question. What was the worst all-time trade?

I’d nominate the Cubs trading Lou Brock to the Cards for Ernie Broglio (sp?).

Because English is really crazy

Check this out!!!

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce, and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So, one moose, 2 meese? One index, two indices? Is cheese the plural of choose?

If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

In what language do people recite at a play, and play at a recital? Ship by truck, and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? Park on driveways and drive on parkways? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?

When a house burns up, it burns down. You fill in a form by filling it out, and an alarm clock goes off by going on.

When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this essay, I end it.

I was in college

When Francis made his much anticipated big league debut. Each time he started that year, I’d ask my roommates (who were neither from Denver or had any inkling of Rockies knowledge) if they knew what day it was. They fell for it the first few times, but soon enough they realized if I was asking, it had to be Jeff Francis day, a holiday that happens once every 5 days for 6 months (sometimes 7) out of the year. The shortage of this day over the last year and a half has me Jones’ing for next Tuesday.

None of us do.

When there’s consistent issues, and yet no visible evidence of them, it is very frustrating, and mysterious. This could take time to diagnose and fix. I recall Jeff Baker’s mystery wrist injury last year that took the best specialist in the field to fix.

So, if he's out for the season

do the Rockies attempt to stick with Morales, or will they look for a long term solution?

by RoxnSox09 on Mar 31, 2010 4:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Depends on how he does.

Remember, Morales is only kind the 75% closer anyway. Tracy has said he does not intend to use him every time. I think it’s simply too early to speculate.

I'd stick with Morales myself

Perhaps his inconsistency issues will get straightened out by just knowing he’s the guy for the 9th.

Caution: Colorado teams are better than they appear.

by ShadowPenguin on Mar 31, 2010 4:32 PM MDT up reply actions

Well, that's not going to happen to start. We'll see mostly Morales, but not exclusively.

That may change if it’s learned Street is done long term, and we have to find a full replacement.
