The Rockies' other redhead will try to improve on his last outing tonight, after his first start of the season did not go so well. Smith allowed five runs in five innings against the Brewers a week ago. This time, he'll be facing the Mets (2-4), who look a lot like, well, the Mets. They've dropped four out of their last five (all at home). The Rockies (3-3) need to make sure they take out lesser opponents, especially at Coors Field. They did so in taking two of three against the Padres over the weekend, and they must continue that trend as the Amazin's come to town.

from my totally unscientific observations, Olivo does seem to be swinging the bat better right now
although I know CDI won’t get a chance to get into a groove if he doesn’t play and etc etc. The catcher platoon is annoying, but CDI still hasn’t seized it with both fists. Plus, Olivo has been very good on D. So I’m still semi-okay with it (although I dislike the tinkering trend overall).

I don't think it's going to make a difference (because the Mets are the Mets and they find ways to screw things up)
but they really need these games more than the Rockies. Their next 19 games are three at the Rockies, three at the Cards, four against the Cubs, three against the Braves, three against the Dodgers, and three against the Phils. So they are playing all four playoff teams form last year plus two more teams who were over .500 last year. They could be out of this thing really fast if they don’t play well over this next stretch.

If you're going to get tacos tomorrow and the Nuggets score100 tonight,
ask for the Nuggets special. The Rockies deal no longer allows you to get soft tacos, and you have to buy a medium drink. They take a little bit off the luster of that deal each year. It’s still awesome of course.
