Ah, how sweet the smell of victory is! Though the game was tense once the bullpen had to be used, the Rockies prevailed.
WPA Heroes: Ubaldo Jimenez (.255), Brad Hawpe (.117), Ian Stewart (.072)
WPA Zeros: Randy Flores (-.096), Seth Smith (-.063), Matt Belisle (-.049)
The Rockies started their 2010 runs campaign in the second inning with a Brad Hawpe ground-rule double. On a wild pitch to Ian Stewart, Hawpe advanced all the way from second base to home plate to score the game's first run. Brewers' catcher Gregg Zaun had trouble finding the ball with the way the sun hit the field. Ian Stewart then jacked a homer to put the Rockies up 2-0. Stewart added a second run on a bases-loaded sac fly in the fourth inning.
Ubaldo Jimenez wasn't quite as dominant as he should've been (he allowed eight hits), but he still had a good outing nonetheless. He struck out six in six innings and allowed one run on a Ryan Braun double in the fifth. A bit of bad defense was on display for both sides today. Troy Tulowitzki (who had an RBI single in the fifth) failed to glove a ball in the first, allowing Ryan Braun to reach first base. In the second inning, Stew took a grounder in front of Tulo and then made a throwing error, sailing it toward the dugout. In addition to his failure to come up with the ball on the wild pitch in the second, Zaun also committed an error that allowed U-Ball to reach first base.
So, about the bullpen. Matt Belisle got two quick outs to start the seventh, but then surrendered a home run to that other CarGo, Carlos Gomez. After a Ryan Braun single, Belisle left the game and Randy Flores entered. After a Prince Fielder single and a Jim Edmonds (really, he's still playing?) walk, things seemed dicey. Matt Daley came in and collected the last out of the inning by getting Casey McGehee to fly out. Phew! At least Rafael Betancourt looked good out there, getting a 1-2-3 inning.
Franklin Morales provided tons of excitement in his first save appearance of 2010. He hit Rickie Weeks with a pitch and then threw a wild pitch that moved Weeks to second. Ryan Braun hit a sac fly to score Weeks (who advanced only to third on a Carlos Gomez double). Tulo then made a leaping grab to put Prince Fielder out. A second liner to second base put an end to the game. Rockies win.
Other things to note: Carlos Gonzalez hit four singles, and Ryan Spilborghs hit an RBI double in the ninth.

That's true.
I’m on my home laptop constantly, but I’m not doing a lot of gaming or other stuff that would be CPU intensive. But it’s still old and slow. I’ve just been lazy about upgrading.

I kind of think they overreacted to the doom and gloom
which seemed equally too much to me. So they countered one extreme with the other. The middle ground seems to have eluded most people.

Funny story
On Saturday, I went in to my local Comcast service center to exchange equipment, and while I was there I had them confirm my subscription to MLB Extra Innings. It was a woman that helped me, and the conversation went something like this:
Her: MLB, what is that, baseball?
Me: Yes.
Her: So, it’s for watching baseball games?
Me: Yes, they show all out of town games, so you can watch your team if they’re not local.
Her: Is it for your husband?
Me: No, it’s for me.
Her: Huh.

Seconded. If a woman doesn't like sports (baseball in particular) I find it very difficult to relate to them on a fundamental level.

My sister just doesn’t pay any attention and has no interest in doing so, but she has no problem with others caring. She was totally cool with me watching the NCAA tourney when I was visiting her, and my dad and my brothers are all big sports fans, so she she’s generally cool with the rest of us paying attention, just doesn’t herself.

That I totally get.
My sister actually went through a stage like that when she was a teenager. But she was going through that dumb teenage phase where she thought she knew everything about everything and was always right (we had some tense conversations, not even about sports). She’s grown up and mellowed since then, so all is good.
Oh I get that. My older sister was pretty tough to deal with when we were growing up

If we win a World Series or two and are in contention year in and year out I think we couls pass a couple of those teams.

I’ve seen it multiple times now.
And yeah, we’re going to be behind some of the big market teams. Nothing is ever going to change that, and I don’t even really blame them. But the stuff about whether they’ll ever show any highlights at all or remember we exist sort of annoys me. I get that I might be alone in that.

and ended up watching the Tiger Woods press conference highlights 3 times and then they cut out to the Giants game right before the Rockies scroll popped up.

There’s a “dashboard” now with a quick look at all of a player’s stats. Makes it a lot more readable if you’re trying to get an overview. This is an intense battle between Fangraphs and Baseball Reference for my favorite website ever.

I totally just remembered a crazy story. My mom was in a checkout line at Target one time, when the woman who was ringing her up had a seizure (well, what later turned out to be a seizure—it wasn’t apparent at first). The woman just sort of froze and went blank, and my mom couldn’t figure out what was going on, then she slumped to the ground before my mom could get around the counter to help her. And THEN she started taking off her clothes. There was a kid behind my mom in line who was probably early 20s and was totally freaked out. My mom told him to go find help and he took off running. Totally bizarre.

I was helping a customer once, when he asked if a weedeater was on sale. I told him it wasn’t and he fell to the floor and began to thrash around. It turned out he was having a seizure.

Maybe give ideas, post links to places where people could volunteer, etc. If enough people were interested, you could even get a group in the Denver area to do something as a group.
