Saturday Pebble Report: Kazuo Matsui hits into bases-loaded fielder's choice to win extra-inning affair
Colorado Springs, W 9-8 (10 innings)
Well, neither team wanted to keep the lead in this one. Starter Josh Muecke and relievers Nick Bierbrodt, Edgmer Escalona, and Andrew Johnston each allowed two runs to score. Mike McKenry went 3-for-5 and fell a triple short of the cycle. His home run was solo shot in the second, his second of the season.
From the seventh inning to the tenth inning, at least one run scored in each half of the inning. Down 7-8 in the bottom of the 10th, Matt Miller hit an RBI single to tie the game and some time later Kazuo Matusi hit into a bases-loaded fielder's choice that put Cole Garner across home plate. Garner had pinch hit for Andrew Johnston earlier in the inning and reached on a single.
Tulsa, L 2-3
Keith Weiser pitched quite well over his seven-inning start. He allowed a run on two hits and two walks. He also struck out six. The problem was Al Alburquerque who blew the save in the ninth. A single and two walks loaded the bases. J.C. Holt's two-run double to left field made the Drillers losers in this game. Kiel Roling went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. He is batting .217/.255/.302 on the season.
Modesto, W 9-6
Scott Robinson, Brian Rike, and Ryan Peisel each drove in two runs, and Maikol Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a triple (5), and an RBI. Robinson and Tim Wheeler each stole their 10th bases of the season. Dan Houston started and allowed four runs, which Isaiah Froneberger followed up with two more runs in the seventh inning. Michael Marbry and Adam Jorgenson held High Desert off the board for the final two innings of the game.
Asheville, L 0-7
Not much good to find in this one. Eliezer Mesa did have two hits and walk. He also had an outfield assist at home plate. Starter Jonathan Vargas allowed six runs on nine hits and four walks in five innings. Four of the six runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning.

Russ, good way explaining the Sky Sox game.
Entering Friday’s game, the Sky Sox had a 8-game losing streak, while Portland had a 7-game losing streak. With both teams struggling recently, something had to give.
