Twins and Royals fans coming to town
Greetings Rockies fans! My wife and I are on a quest to hit all the MLB parks and will be visiting Coors field on July 4th for the 1pm game against the Giants.
We're hitting Kaufman Field and Busche Stadium earlier in the week. We are very excited, Coors looks great on TV and I'm sure it will be spectacular in person. We'll be sitting down the first baseline somewhat close to the field so the view should be nice. I'm wondering of any of you would be willing to offer this out of towner some park tips or insights that we may benefit from knowing. Having never been to Coors before, we don't want to miss out on some of the neat things you get to know at your local park. So any ideas on great places to watch an inning for a great view, local traditions, or your favorite food recommendations would be very much appreciated. (Also, is parking difficult?) My wife is also worried about the high altitude. Does the high altitude really effect breathing to the point where it can make you sick? May sound like a dumb question, but we're singing in a wedding for some friends the day before and she's really concerned. I guess I always figured it was noticeable, but not debilitating. I'll let you educate me on this:)
Thanks in advance for any thoughts. I promise we'll cheer hard for you guys to beat the Giants. And if any of you are ever in the Twin Cities, let me know and I'll give you the rundown on Target Field. Thanks guys!

The altitude affects you if you’re running or something, but just singing shouldn’t knock you out unless you’re the most light-headed people in America, ahaha.
I'm the Hammel-Chicken wearing USA gear for now, Buffalozilla will be back after the World Cup!

Hehe. No, we're hearty Minnesotans!
I figured, but she will appreciate knowing that. Thank you.
I always loved that one.
Glad you're visiting!
as UZ pointed out, the altitude shouldn’t be a problem unless you are engaging in heavy exercise. However, I should point out that it can affect your metabolism of alcohol-you get buzzed a bit quicker at higher altitudes.
As far as food around the ball park, there are a pantheon of microbreweries and pubs surrounding Coors. Going down Blake street yields the closest of these. I am partial to the Blake Street Tavern: Good food and selection of microbrews on tap. Breckenridge Brewery isn’t too shabby either.
Food in the stadium, as in all ball parks can be pricey, but I really don’t think there’s anything you should avoid. But then, I’m not a picky eater. Footlong Rocky Dogs are great, and they have Spicy Pickle carts around the concourse (they are a local deli-great sandwiches and, of course, spicy pickles).
The concourse at Coors field is wide open and great for walking around. You are rarely in spaces from which you can’t see the field, with the exception of right field for a time, so you won’t be missing the action on the field if you wanted to stroll. Plus, any time you are away from your seat, they have tv’s and 850 KOA on the radio to keep you abreast of the situation at hand. We’ve got good radio men (Jack Corrigan and Jerry Schemmel) calling the game.
That’s about all I can think of right now. I really want to get out to MN to see Target Field…it looks absolutely gorgeous. Have fun out here and enjoy your ballpark tour!

You've got to hike up to the row of purple seats..
and take a picture of yourself there. They sit exactly a mile above sea level, and you’ll probably be out of breath at this point anyhow so sitting down is a good option. Here’s what they look like.
My other favorite things to do at Coors is watching an inning or two from the RF area behind the bullpens. It’s a great line of sight for the game and you’re right on top of the Pen as the pitchers warmup.
The area that Coors sits in is historical for Denver and a neat place to walk around if you get the chance. Sonada’s is a sushi restaurant near the 16th street mall. One of the greatest outdoor malls in America and it’s all within walking distance of Coors Field.

Altitude can be a problem
just remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and avoid the headache that sometimes comes. You can feel a little slower , but if you take it easy you shouldn’t be affected too much. Remember to look for the great views of the mtns. I’ll never forget the first time I saw the field …it’s gorgeous. The firework display is wonderful. You can actually go out on the field and watch it laying on the ground . Hope the weather is good for you. Glad to have you come…happy baseball !
In leadership, sometimes it comes strictly down to courage. We have to have courage within our organiztion today. It takes courage to be a Colorado Rockie.

Drink lots of water!
This can’t be stressed enough. That’s the only way to make sure you don’t get sick, and you don’t have to be doing any physically taxing activity for it to happen to you. It can happen to anyone, it just depends on your hemoglobin levels and ability to take in oxygen. Even some of the most fit people get in trouble if they take it for granted.
When you go to Coors, check out the Tornadough stand in left field. Get a Cinnamon one, they’re the bomb and you can’t find them anywhere else I know of.
A visit to the actuall Purple Row is a must, but also go up into the Rockpile in straight away center and get a shot of the field with the city in the background. So amazing! A shot from right field with the mountains in the background is pretty cool as well, especially if snow is still on the peaks. It’s a shot you can’t get at any other Major League park.
Enjoy your time there, and remember that the only park built before Coors was Progressive (then Jacobs’) Field in Cleveland. All the other parks that look like Coors were inspired by those two. It’s my most favorite place to be, and I hope you get to see a Rockies’ winner!

Project U-Ball is in full effect.
Parking
I always park in the official Coors lot. $12 or $14 for slightly closer parking. There is also parking in many areas around the stadium. The July 4th game is always a sellout so parking may be a little more difficult, but the only time I’ve heard of that was really bad was when RTD (public transit) was on strike for opening day.
I think we'll try to get there about 1.5 hrs before the game
to avoid the parking issue, and to get to the Purple Row without making everyone move out of their seats to take a picture. We’ll for sure hydrate like crazy, and I am personally looking forward to having one of those Tornadoughs!
Thanks again guys!
I always loved that one.
