Know Your Foe #23: Brewers look to repeat success of season-opening series vs. Rockies
MILWAUKEE BREWERS (28-38, 8.5 GB, 4TH NL CENTRAL)
Last Series vs. Rockies: April 5-7, 2010 @ Miller Park (W 2-1)
Similarly to how things have gone for everybody else vs. Colorado this season, the Brewers were unable to beat Ubaldo Jimenez but did take the other two games of the series. In the loss to Jimenez and the Rockies on Opening Day, the Brewers managed to outhit the opposition 12-10 but still lost the game 5-3. The Brew Crew outscored the Rockies 15-14 in the series, highlighted by game two in which they scored seven runs. Casey McGehee was the star of the series offensively for Milwaukee, as he went 5-11 with a homer. Prince Fielder was 4-11 with a couple of walks, and Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez each hit key long balls for the Crew as well.
Yovani Gallardo was the Opening Day starter and suffered a bad luck loss, giving up three runs on seven hits and seven innings but not getting a ton of support. Randy Wolf continued his mesmerize the Rockies (as he did in 2009) in Game 2, striking out eight batters in 6.2 innings and staying out of deep trouble. Doug Davis was not good in the finale, allowing four runs on six hits in four innings. However, the pen was able to completely shut down Colorado's offense for the remainder of the game, tossing five innings of two-hit ball.
Recent Series Results: lost 1-2 vs. Texas, won 2-1 at Los Angeles (AL)
Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, and Casey McGehee each hit home runs in the series opener vs. the Rangers, but other than Fielder (who hit two more bombs in the finale), they - as well as the rest of the Milwaukee offense - were contained for the remainder of the series. Yovani Gallardo had a ten strikeout performance in that final game as well, but he allowed four runs to score (one of which came on a home run) in six innings to take the loss.
Against the Angels, the bats found their way back to the mix as the Brewers went on to outscore the Halos 19-3 in the first two contests before dropping the third. McGehee and Braun each went yard in the first game, while Prince Fielder crushed another one in Game 2. Randy Wolf and Dave Bush picked up victories in the series to get the Crew within single digits of .500 temporarily before Chris Narveson lost Game 3 despite a home run from Carlos Gomez.

Lots of power coming in
I hope we can do the same to them as we did to the Jays

(sigh)
Another series that’s blacked out for me in Iowa. With 5 teams blacked out (apparently, the Royals are no longer blacked out), I’m seriously questioning if MLB Extra Innings is worth the $200.
Probably, because otherwise I’d only see the Rockies when they play the Cubs. But still very annoying. An entire 8 day span (6 games + 2 off days) with no televised games sucks.
