Not Quite Ready to Let Go

I can't help it, I love the Rockies and the philosophy of bringing up home-grown players and trying to keep them together. I really hope that the team finds some spark or some special mojo hits our offense making us look like true contenders again with the roster as is. As he is almost certainly doing though, Dan O'Dowd needs to monitor the situation and make a smart move to boost the offense.

One of the latest rumors has me thinking of a small adjustment paying large dividends like the Betancourt/Graham trade last year. Ty Wigginton (Link) is probably not going to cost us too much in trade and could really help our situation. He is a RH bat with pop and is more of a utility player that can fit in well playing at 2nd for Barmes when Tulo comes back and can fill in for Helton at 1st. Ideally, we just DFA Giambi and take the chance of someone picking him up (Not sure anyone would want to). He is killing our roster flexibility and if we really want him come September call-ups he would be waiting in the Springs like last year.

There were other mentionables in the ESPN trade rumors one was Dan Uggla who Olney feels we will call the Marlins about and consider possible trade scenarios. The other was Adam Everett who was released recently is also seen as a possibility for the Rockies to go after.

Woody Paige put his latest 2 cents in for what the Rockies need to do to be successful (Link). I hate to speak too negatively but I can't really get on board with about any of his proposed changes. When going with a 6 man rotation and calling up Kaz Matsui are even considered you just have to question the judgement of all the other suggestions, even the good ones. Kisla thinks we should go for Cliff Lee (Link) and while that would be awesome I am not sure how it helps the team.

Ideally we will have a good idea how our team is doing and what it will look like down the stretch at around the All-Star Break. I hope it will look something like this:

C- Olivo, Iannetta

IF - Helton, Barmes, Tulowitzki, Stewart, Wigginton, Mora

OF - Gonzalez, Hawpe, Smith, Spilborghs, Fowler

SP- Jimenez, Hammel, Francis, Cook, De La Rosa

RP- Street, Corpas, Belisle, Beimel, Betancourt, Flores, Daley

If there is a really good trade option with minimal damage to our current farm system I really hope O'Dowd makes it but barring that I think a little adjustment should get us by. For Tracy I would say set a line-up and for the most part stick with it, let Helton work things out (if he doesn't eventually I would hope he would ask to sit), and hopefully multiple players will step up to right the ship. It may be time to let go of some players but I just don't think that I am ready yet, what does everyone else think?
