It Needs to Stop.  Immediately

Tonight marks the 7th, yes, that's correct- SEVENTH time this year the Rockies have led by at least 3 runs at some point in the game, and gone on to surrender that lead.  (Six of those games turned into losses- they somehow stumbled over themselves and ended up winning one.)  Meanwhile, they have not once overcome a three run deficit.  I don't mean that they haven't won a game which they trailed by three runs- I mean they haven't even trailed by three runs, and come back to tie the game at any point.

That's pathetic.

Take a three run lead at any point in a game against the Rox?  Game over, you've won.  Face a three run deficit?  Hey, don't worry about it.  They'll let you back in.  Their pen has been solid, but you KNOW for sure they're not going to add any insurance runs.

Close and late:  .209/.286/.342

High leverage:  .237/.315/.394

Innings 7 through 9: .204/.284/.335  (For good measure, Inning 6: .236/.306/.375)

I don't care why it's happening.  I don't care if it's bad BABIP, bad luck, or a voodoo curse.  I don't care what it takes to fix it.  I don't care if they fire Don Baylor, start letting relief pitchers bat for themselves, or make Mora and Spilly full time starters so Tulo and Cargo can come off the bench and pinch hit.  I don't care, I don't care, I don't care.  It needs to stop.  You cannot win a division, let alone a wild card, let alone 81 games, if you consistently shut down your bats after the 5th inning.

It's absolutely infuriating.

There is one silver lining- when the Rox eventually miss the wild card by a game, it's not like us fans will be stuck thinking about two or three painful losses that would've been the difference if one ground ball had just bounced the other way or the team had picked up just one more clutch hit.  At the pace we're going, we'll have about 25 games like that to think back on!  I kind of like that idea.  Lots of variety.  My personal favorite so far has been the 12-11 loss to the Diamondbacks, where they went up 11-6 after 4, and then recorded outs in 18 of their 19 plate appearances the rest of the way.  But hey, who knows?  There are still 100 or so games left- they may be able to lose in even more embarrassing fashion at some point!
