To continue with the Uggla discussion, I will put the comment up that I posted in the last thread and we can go from there;
I don’t think Renck puts a bold headline like "Uggla is on the Radar" if he isn’t truly on the radar.
Especially when he follows it up with
There were strong indications Monday that the Rockies remain interested in Florida’s Dan Uggla.
Where would these indications come from? Purplerow? I think he’s been talking to some insiders that have knowledge. It just seems dishonest otherwise to say there are strong indications, and he is on the radar, if its just him speculating.

What makes you even think that Renck wrote the sub header? That could just as easily be the sports’ department web copy editor or something. Does Renck actually publish his own articles to the DP website? (I recognize this is a bit of a tenuous position.)
He doesn’t elaborate at all on the "indications".
So all he did was essentially make a claim ("there were strong indications"), and the rest of the article discusses the logic and hurdles involved with such a move.
So "strong indications" could in fact, simply be "well gosh, I’ve seen a lot of internet chatter about this today".

All I’m saying is that he doesn’t even goes as far as attribute anything to an anonymous club employee. He hasn’t actually said the club has interest. He’s only explained why it would make sense for the club to have interest. A paragraph header is not a statement of fact.
And the “internet chatter” doesn’t disprove anything either. So it “could” indicate that Uggla is actually on the club’s radar, but it doesn’t actually provide any support, either factual or alleged, to that proposition.

If so, I think there’s some PR writers trying to get credentialed as press who would have a bone to pick….
The difference between Renck being the press beat writer and Ringolsby being the internet writer….has 100% more to do with the RMN going bankrupt and the DP surviving, than anything related to either of their writings. Renck would agree that he benefited from the better business fortunes of DP. It could have easily been Ringolsby being a DP writer and Renck now having to be the internet scribe.
So using as the basis of the argument that one writes for a print pub and the other for an internet only pub is just silly.
That would be akin to me saying that because Ringlosby is in the MLB Hall of Fame for his writing, he’s clearly the better writer.

As I said before, half of all those “rumors” about trades aren’t even rumors…they’re just bald conjecture by writers needing to fill column space. No real harm, no real foul, but those do not constitute rumors or actual trade discussions.
So, that being said, every baseball writer’s been wrong about this stuff, usually at least about as often as they’re right. I don’t care if you’re Gammons, Rosenthal, Ringolsby, Renck….any one of them.
Some are blatantly wrong even more often than others (hellooooo Ken Rosenthal), but no writer is anywhere near batting 1.000 at this.

Look back at Renck’s tweets, and look at Ringolsby’s. Nowhere do they say anything to the extent of “in contact with”, “conversations about” related to the FO and Uggla.
Rereading Renck, you get the impression that someone floated the idea that FLA needed to offload salary, Rox need a bat, and Uggla’s available. Hmmmm. that would be a great fit. It gets swirled and mixed in the internet blender, and presto! The Roxs are interested in Uggla. Then Renck gets in the hyperbolic mix by guessing what it would take to get it done, without actually consuting the FO.

I’m definitely not “Uggla at any cost.” I’m also not “No Uggla at any cost.” If it’s Rogers and Morales or something similar, sure. But if it means giving up Chacin or Matzek or even Rosario, no thanks.

Dude, seriously, you need to stop hopping on that Jump to Conclusions mat.
If Tulo’s on course to come back in 2-3 weeks, then I don’t think we need to give up the farm and take on the salary to get Uggla.
That is not “against Uggla”. You keep putting words in people’s mouths and that’s becoming a load of crap.
If Tulo’s out until late August, and Herrera’s magical answer bat begins to fall off even a little bit, and the Padres don’t start coming back to earth, then you have to make a move. It can be Uggla, it can be Wigginton, it can maybe be Kelly Johnson, who knows.
There are circumstances where I feel trading for Uggla would makes sense, and circumstances where I feel otherwise.
But stop putting words in other people’s mouths. Seriously.

Well, maybe I won't start at the beginning of the catalog, then...
….because I’m less keen on solo-acoustic stuff generally. Almost always (there are a few exceptions, but very few).
So going current and going back until I hit the point where I’m not satisfied…that would work.
He does seem incredibly talented and compelling, especially when it’s low-fiish band-ish.

Long story short , we generally think his offense does not warrant his lack of defense over Barmes defense.. Possibly malleable if right deal, but very unlikely to switch my position.
Plus he would hurt our HAR level
