Know Your Foe #32: City Of Brotherly Love Hosts Rockies
Philadelphia Phllies (49-46, 2nd NL East, 7 GB, 3.5 WCGB)
Last Series vs. Rockies: 1-1 series split.*
*Second game of series was postponed and will be played on 9/2.
Kyle Kendrick and Greg Smith allowed four and five runs respectively in the first game, but it was Manuel Corpas's collapse in the ninth inning that put four runs on the board for the Phillies. On May 12, the Rockies won 4-3 in 10 innings on a Miguel Olivo homer.
Last Two Series Results: 1-3 series loss to Chicago; 1-3 series loss to St. Louis
The Phillies are 2-6 in their last eight and 4-6 in their last 10. Did you know that on July the winner and the loser of that game both had the last name Carpenter? I wonder how many times that has happened. Before last night's 2-0 shutout of the Cubs, the Phillies had dropped four straight.
Roy Halladay took the loss in his last start, allowed two homers, and gave up six runs.
Friday-Monday: 4-game series at Citizen Bank Park

A Phillies lineup
without Rollins hitting first? What is the world coming too?

I just based
the lineup on the last two games, which had Polanco leading off.

If we can somehow steal tonight's game we should inflict quite a bit of damage to Philly in this series
Get well soon Tulo. The Rockies need you.

BABIP is going to swing our way soon.
If we can leave 7 on base against Josh Johnson, we can deal some pain to Halladay.

Some weird times for the series.
Everybody needs to have a heads up the day before so he/she doesn’t miss the start.

The east coast start times
for Friday and Sunday are pretty standard. The game is on Fox on Saturday and that game always starts at 2:00. The Monday game is the only one I find to be weird at all, but the timing is just like a home game on get away day.

Halladay
Could go one of two ways… 1) the last start against the Cubs was an aberration, no way he gets knocked around in back-to-back starts; or 2) much like Ubaldo, he’s due for a mini-slump. Unfortunately, history is on the side of #1.
Yes, but...
Back in May, the Rox tagged him for 10 hits and 3 runs (1 unearned). So at least the guys know that they can hit him.
Get your purple on.
Were Giambi and/or Mora in the lineup the last time we faced him? I can't remember.
They both have pretty good numbers against him in large sample sizes. If that holds, and at least some of the rest of the lineup has success, I feel pretty good that we can get to him again.
Mora was but had no hits
Cargo and Olivo were the firepower that night. Cargo 3 for 5, Olivo went 5 for 5. Unreal.
The journal of the whole game is here.
Get your purple on.
split hopefully
3 out of 4 would be beautiful but i don’t see it
Get better Tulo....time to rally around each other and hang in there until our Mr. everything returns

trade for UGGLA now!
And that one is low and outside, Eldred takes it for ball four.

We already have a roster crunch bringing back Tulo
Mora or herrera would have to go to bring up Nelson. Both are performing well, so that’s a tough call.

Was there a better way to give Barmes a rest?
Because I’m sure that is what Tracy is thinking. He looked out of gas the last couple of days.
No there really isn't
And starting Mora against Halladay is not a bad idea at all. Too bad it comes with Cook on the mound though.

As I recall, Cookie wasn't too shabby last time out....

It's not a question of Cook's effectiveness
As much as it is by him lviing on the ground ball
