Know Your Foe #37: Meet The Mets, Meet The Mets. Come And Meet The Mets!
New York Mets (55-56, 9.0 GB, 3rd NL East, 7.5 WCGB)
Last Series vs. Rockies: 1-2 series loss @ Coors Field April 13-15
Let's travel back to those heady days of the early season. Greg Smith pitched one of his few good games in 2010 by striking out eight Mets and limiting those guys to two runs in seven innings. Seth Smith went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a homer. The next day the Rockies needed extra innings to win the second game 6-5. Chris Iannetta hit the walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th. Jon Niese got knocked around by the Rockies for five runs in five innings. Unfortunately, the Rockies couldn't complete the sweep and got shutout 5-0 by Mike Pelfrey.
Last Two Series Results: 1-2 series loss @ Atlanta; 1-2 series loss @ Philly
I'll let Troy Renck sum up Mets recently:
Mets season virtually ended on last road trip through ATL and Phi. Why? Wright and Beltran went 5-for-45 with 2 RBIs.
Before getting to the pitching match, I answered five questions for Mets Gazette. Check 'em out here.
Tuesday-Thursday: 3-game series @ Citi Field

Expected Lineup
| Player | Pos | AVG | OBP | SLG | OPS | ISO | BABIP | wOBA |
| Jose Reyes | SS | 0.280 | 0.320 | 0.416 | 0.736 | 0.136 | 0.303 | 0.326 |
| Angel Pagan | RF | 0.311 | 0.370 | 0.475 | 0.845 | 0.164 | 0.353 | 0.375 |
| Carlos Beltran | CF | 0.195 | 0.300 | 0.312 | 0.612 | 0.117 | 0.222 | 0.265 |
| David Wright | 3B | 0.293 | 0.366 | 0.495 | 0.861 | 0.202 | 0.365 | 0.369 |
| Ike Davis | 1B | 0.253 | 0.328 | 0.435 | 0.764 | 0.183 | 0.304 | 0.334 |
| Fernando Martinez | LF | 0.200 | 0.200 | 0.200 | 0.400 | 0.000 | 0.250 | 0.179 |
| Josh Thole | C | 0.323 | 0.417 | 0.403 | 0.820 | 0.081 | 0.345 | 0.376 |
| Ruben Tejada | 2B | 0.196 | 0.278 | 0.232 | 0.510 | 0.036 | 0.239 | 0.232 |
Fernando Martinez was just brought up to the majors after hitting .255/.321/.466 for Triple-A Buffalo. He's probably going to split time 50/50 with Jeff Francoeur in the outfield. Martinez's star has diminished over the last few years, but he shouldn't be wasting away on the bench while Jeff Francouer gets starts.
Ruben Tejada moved into a starting role recently, displacing Luis Castillo (did ya hear that the Mets offered Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo for Carlos Zambrano and were turned down?). This is his third time with the Mets this season. He started the season with the team before Jose Reyes returned a couple of games into the season and then came back for all of June and most of July.
Carlos Beltran has been back for about a month and done nothing.

This series frightens me
I know the Mets have a 55-56 record but they are 33-19 at home this season. Combine that with the Rockies 22-34 road record and we are facing a team who has been 13 games better than us this season as far as this matchup is concerned.
I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see the Rockies take 2 out of three here and just get the hell out. We NEED to win the Ubaldo game tonight because if we don’t this series could get really, really ugly.
Oh, and the fact that the Padres and Giants will both be at home playing the Pirates and Cubs only makes this series even more significant in my mind.
If the 2007 Rockies can win 21 out of 22 to reach the World Series and the 2009 Rockies can come from 12 games under .500 in June to make the playoffs, why can't the 2010 Rockies make the postseason after being 51-50?

Wow. Pelfrey's season just kind of imploded in the past couple of months, didn't it?
I remember how good he was in the first few months (April in particular), and when he absolutely shut down the Rocks at Coors.
Let’s hope they keep their hititng shoes on for this series.
i like how he has the biggest WHIP in the series
By far

Haet Mets =/
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.
