Know Your Foe #38: Brewers look to play spoiler vs. Rockies in Denver
MILWAUKEE BREWERS (53-62, 3rd in NL Central)
2010 Record vs. Rockies: 3-3
Last Series vs. Rockies: June 18-20, 2010 @ Coors Field (L 1-2)
Recent series results: W 3-0 vs. Houston, L 1-3 vs. Arizona
The Crew had to win yesterday's game against the D-Backs to avoid a sweep, and they were able to do just that behind a strong offensive performance by Casey McGehee, who went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run. Randy Wolf got the win despite allowing four runs - all in one inning - on seven hits and four walks. He struck out eight, but it WAS against the D-Backs...
In the previous games, Arizona outscored the Brewers 17-7 - including an 8-2 victory which saw Milwaukee starter David Bush allow four consecutive homers to D-Backs hitters in the fourth inning. Amongst the guys that will see action against Colorado, Chris Narveson probably had the best start. He allowed three runs on six hits in six innings. Manny Parra also started a game in the series and did a nice job of limiting Arizona to one run, but he also walked six batters in 5.1 frames.
Offensively, Milwaukee's biggest threat looks like it's going to be McGehee, who is now 8-for-8 with a couple of homers in his last two ballgames.

I do believe we have the advantage in all three games
I want a gosh darned sweep.

Does DLR really have the advantage over Gallardo?
I’d call it a split t best.

I'd agree with this
We have a huge advantage in one start, a wash in another (tonight), and a slight to middling advantage on Saturday.

Depends on how much stock you put into their career lines at Coors

I'm feeling oddly confident about tonight

I'm not sure we have the advantage tonight
Gallardo has a 2.01 road ERA. We’re gonna need a really good start by JDLR to get this one tonight.
I do think each game gets easier though
If the 2007 Rockies can win 21 out of 22 to reach the World Series and the 2009 Rockies can come from 12 games under .500 in June to make the playoffs, why can't the 2010 Rockies make the postseason after being 51-50?

He has a 12.46 ERA at Coors though, admittedly in two starts
I just feel like our bats are going to come alive tonight, and de la Rosa has quietly been pitching very well of late

I can see that
When we play at Coors I always feel like we have a decent shot no matter what even if I don’t like the pitcher we are facing

I agree with all of this, except for putting too much stock in Gallardo's two starts
Two starts is a meaningless sample size.
However, I feel like our bats would hit anyone facing us tonight.

I guess if you think that JDLR and Gallardo are about the same ability
I can see where you’d pencil Esmil Rogers in for a win.
I didnt say Gallardo and JDLR are the same abilityr
I said I think we might have as good or better performance tonight. That takes into account home park, career trends, lineups. In a vacuum, Gallardo is much better.
As for tomorrow, you have a long time minor league pitcher with average stuff and an ERA approaching 6 against a rookie who was the #4 Purp. At home. I don’t think that’s quite a ludicrous notion.

Yes.

Maybe a 13-10 type game
If the 2007 Rockies can win 21 out of 22 to reach the World Series and the 2009 Rockies can come from 12 games under .500 in June to make the playoffs, why can't the 2010 Rockies make the postseason after being 51-50?

Hey Bryan
The recent series the Brewers have played were against the Astros and D’backs not the Cards and the Reds. They played both teams at home and went 3-0 against Houston and 1-3 agaisnt Arizona.

Yeah, I used the last one I did as a template and forgot to change it.
It was actually my intention to do quite a bit more editing before the story published, but I forgot I was going to be in a First Aid/CPR Training Class and not in my office, so I never got a chance to get to a computer.

It's time to win the games you ought to win, guys. Do it. Please.

I will be attending two of the three games (Fri and Sun), so I get my first Ubaldo Day experience in person this year.

where was your picture taken?
With those who don't give a damn about baseball, I can only sympathize. I do not resent them. I am even willing to concede that many of them are physically clean, good to their mothers and in favor of world peace. But while the game is on, I can't think of anything to say to them. ~Art Hill
