A Letter to the 2009 Colorado Rockies
Dear 2009 Rockies,
The moment is still fresh in my mind. When you were just one out away from sealing yet another comeback victory at Coors Field in game 4 of last year's NLDS, Ryan Howard lined a game tying RBI double into the right field corner breaking the hearts of Rockie fans everywhere. A Jayson Werth RBI single and a Brad Lidge save later, and the magical season you provided us with was suddenly over.
It was quite a punch to the gut. The thought of not being able to see you guys play anymore was as shocking as it was painful. However, there was one thing we all took solace in. We knew we weren't saying goodbye to you forever; it was only a hiatus. The team that went 74-42 under Jim Tracy, the team that came from 15.5 games behind to make the playoffs, the team that had three different road winning streaks of five or more games, and the team we all fell in love with would be back next season.
We all anxiously awaited your return all offseason as we watched unbiased writers pick the Rockies to win the division, and those with a rooting interest guarantee it. We thought you came back in April; it sure looked like you anyway. Players by the same names playing mediocre baseball early in the season only made us say "Yep that's our Rockies. They always get off to slow starts but we know they will pick it up soon"
As we moved deeper into the season however, we began to realize we were not watching the same team as last year. Instead we are stuck with a group of guys who bear a striking resemblance to you (except this Tulo has a mullet), but only know how to impersonate the way you play at Coors Field. It's extremely frustrating.
As we watch San Diego and San Francisco get farther and farther away, we are all left wondering why you never came back. Was it something we said? Did the Padres kidnap you and steal your mojo? We all just want to know where you are. We long for the late game heroics, the consistent play night in and night out, the ability to actually win a series on the road, and the thrill of being in a playoff spot. There are still 48 games left, enough time for you to make an impact.
So wherever you've gone off to, please come back. We all miss you terribly and this season just hasn't been the same without you.
Sincerely, RIRF and all the Rowbots who sign in the comment section

P.S.
If last year’s Ubaldo wants to go pursue his other dream of becoming a doctor that’s OK. We actually like this Ubaldo better.
But seriously, bring everyone else back NOW!!!!!
If the 2007 Rockies can win 21 out of 22 to reach the World Series and the 2009 Rockies can come from 12 games under .500 in June to make the playoffs, why can't the 2010 Rockies make the postseason after being 51-50?

I remember so vividly,
last year, when you guys “didn’t know the meaning of the word quit”, and when you guys were having so much fun Playing Baseball, instead of pressing.
What happened?!
I love you guys, but it gets frustrating at times when you know that there’s “pressure” to do better, and you guys aren’t handling it.
If there’s some possibility that this season could be turned around, great! I don’t want this year to be another even yeared downfall and clumblage to too high expectations.
Just have fun playing the game we all love, and see what happens.
With all my love and very sincerly,

Yes
The 2010 Rockies can impersonate the way the 2009 Rockies played at Coors Field. That’s to say they play great at home but can’t act the part on the road.

If you can find out where the 2007 Rockies went to,
you’ll probably find the 2009 Rockies there.
-Joe
Ubaldo Fact of the Week: He has an arsenal of 6 pitches (Fastball, Curve, Slider, Change, Splitter, Cutter). Olivo had to get creative before the season in giving each pitch a sign, and so he uses his middle finger for the cutter.
Oh so you know where the 2007 and 2009 Rockies are hiding then?

Each season is its own
The 2007 and 2009 Rockies will only live in our memories and as much as we wish we could go back and replay that series with Philadelphia, part of the 2009 Rockies was losing that series.
The 2010 Rockies will in all likelihood turn out to be a disappointment. My hope is that this disappointment will fuel the fire of the 2011 Rockies, who will be the first team to win the NL west. Miracle streaks at the ends of season are old hat. Bring on the solid, consistent division winner!

Thanks
Unfortunately I don’t think it worked after the way I saw the Rockies play in the last series. Although the 2009 Rockies couldn’t beat the Dodgers either so I guess it stll could be them. We’ll know for sure after the weekend series against Arizona.
The 2010 Rockies are done!!!!! Do you hear me Rockies? You have NO SHOT at making the postseason. In fact I guarantee you will not make the postseason. (Okay, now that I have removed all expectations go out and make me eat these words)
