Player of the Month-July

I have been doing some polling on Player of the Week, but haven't got enough feed back for me to continue it, so maybe you guys would like a Player of the Month instead. I thought about doing the hitters and the pitchers on separate post but there a team and should be taken for that. July started off great with us winning 8 of 10 before the ASG, but then we lost 11 of 16 to finish the month. The total of 13 and13 for the month of July is the 2nd worst month this year following Aprils slow start at 11-12. Some good and some bad news, we had our longest win streak of the season with 6 games from July 4th to July 10th. BUT we also had our longest losing streak at 8 games from July 21st thur the 28th. The good news we hit .290/.365/.478 with an OPS of .843. We had the highest avg.(.290), Runs scored (141), RBI's(138), Hits(266), HR's(35), TB(438), OBP(.365), SLG%(.478), andOPS(.843) for any month this year. As for the pitchers they marked the highest in SO/9(8.4), and SO/BB(2.43).

The worst part was the pitching staff, the starts for the most part. They had the worst numbers for a month in ERA(4.66), home runs allowed(30), and we had no complete games for the first month this year. All of our starters had an ERA of 4.0 or more. Francis had the lowest at 4.00.

After the jump I'll go over who played good and who didn't. You can decide who played the best.

First lets start with the hitter, since they had the best month of them all. 2 players lead the leaders board. Carlos Gonzalez had an awesome month of July. Batting .382/.415/.735 with an OPS of 1.150. He lead the team in AB's, Hits, doubles, Home runs, RBI's, SLP, and OPS. He just finished the month on a high note with his game against ths Cubs when he hit for the cycle. Oooooo ya almost forgot he also hit a walk off, finish the game, complete the cycle, thrid deck bomb on the 31st. What a way to finish the month. WOW WOW WOW WOW !!!!!

The other player was Dexter Fowler who hit .287/.392/.529 with an OPS of .921. He lead the team in Runs, triples, Walks, and stolen bags. 2nd in AB's, Hits, and doubles. To go with that he had 2 bombs, and11 RBI's. Add in the fact that you don't have to worry about center field when he plays. Just would love to see this from him more consistently. I wonder what Kiszla thinks...wait NO I DON"T!!!

Ian Stewart had a good month as well. He hit .278/.373/.597 with an OPS of .971. He didn't lead in any category but had a solid month...wonder where Mark Kiszla gets the idea that CF, C and 3B are our problem areas when 2 of those made the list for Player of the Month...he ranked in the top 5 in AB's, runs, triples, home runs, RBI's, walks, SLP, and OPS. Not bad for a guy Kiszla says we need to replace, all I have to say is I'm glad he isn't running the show.

Other notable players for the month would be Ianneta with his 4 bombs and an OPS of 1.142, and Giambi with his .409 batting average and .982 OPS.

The pitching staff struggled this month. The only starter I would consider would be Francis only because in the last 3 starts he has pitched very well( 2-0, 2.00 ERA, 18IP, 4 ER, 18K's, and a .83 WHIP). The Rockies are 3-2 in his 5 starts in July and 2-1 in the last 3.

Huston Street pitched good as well. He was 5 for 5 in save opportunities with an 2.13ERA. He had an awesome WHIP of .553 and had an SO/9 of 7.81. Plus you add in the fact that Stewart hit him with a line drive and he came back and pitched 2 days later...Wow!!! The Rockies where 10-2 in games he pitched in.

Matt Belisle had a good month with a 1.62 ERA, 8.10 SO/9 and a WHIP of .900. The Rockies where 1-2 in the games in which he allowed a run, a 2 run win over San Diego, and the losses where a 1-run games verses Florida and a 8 run loss the Phily. The Rockies where 7-6 in games in which he pitched.

Other notable pitchers would be Corpas and DLR. Corpas pitched in 9 games and we where 2-7, but he pitched good with a 2.53 ERA and a 9.28 SO/9. DLR had 2 bad games to start the month back from the DL, but finished the last 2 games with a 2.77 ERA, 10.83 SO/9 and a 1.077 WHIP. Even though we lost both games, a 1 run game to Florida and a 2 run game to Pittsburgh, he pitched 6 and 7 innings in those games.

So there you have it. You decide who was the best for the month of July.
