Ok, just like every great comeback this season...
…I turned it off.
This is just mind blowing. Last score I saw was 10-1 ATL. Walked right up to the TV, turned it off, and turned on some music — didn’t even think anything of it. And what do you know? This stupid team COMES all the way BACK again!
They might be underachieving this season, but this is still the most endearing team in baseball. They’re capable of some of the most surreal moments I’ve ever witnessed in this sport.

I've never learned this lesson!
I’ve done it, seriously, over half a dozen times over the years — including the miracle in the 9th earlier this season. It’s even happened while ATTENDING games!
I remember Colorado being down seven runs in ’06, or so, and taking off to beat the traffic, only to find out they came back and won one SportsCenter by the time I got home.
I think I’m a good luck charm of sorts.

With the exception of Seth’s dinger; I liked that they hit for the line drives and base hits and worked for the walks. That’s the style of hitting I’d like to see more of. Todd had an excellent game and I admit I didn’t think he had a triple left in him.

Although there are a lot of barely-injuries in this game that have resulted in DL stints. I’m not saying guys aren’t injured when they go on DL… I’m saying that stuff people play through becomes an excuse to move someone to AAA far too often when they’re underperforming for reasons that very well could be unrelated to the minor injury. Cookie, for example, wasn’t on the DL more than a few days before he was pitching in Tulsa.

He started THROWING in Tulsa shortly after he got there.
I’m feeling a bit nitpicked here. Is my point being missed? He was pitching poorly, had a convenient injury during BP, and headed to Tulsa shortly after being placed on the DL. This is not the only example, so please don’t pick me apart here. I’m not saying the Rockies are doing anything wrong, technically, nor are they doing anything other teams don’t do. But it’s clear to me that a struggling player doesn’t need much more than a hangnail to be put on the DL if a struggling team has viable options waiting at AAA.

I just find the DL conspiracy theory arguments to be trite. I argue against them quite strongly, but nobody ever seems to care, so I’ve basically given up.

We'd be better off calling a starter up, such as Roe
Whose last start was the 22nd, Escalona, who can go a couple innings, or of course Morales. Deduno would be perfect but he’s still recovering from injury, and Reynolds pitched the 22nd, so he’s a darkhorse. I feel as if it’s going to be Escalona, he makes the most sense.
Bringing up Roe would be akin to recalling Greg Smith, imho

oh hey that reminds me
one of my regular customers at my day job is this awesome old lady who reads all the time and loves me and we chat a lot. So anyway, we got to talking about why I was in Asheville, and I mentioned the Tourists. It turns out that she used to be a huge baseball fan who went to tons of Tourists games (she’s lived here all her life) and got to see Willie Stargell play. She’s only ever gone to one major league baseball game in her life.
October 1956. New York. Game 5 of the World Series. Don Larsen pitching.

The guy busts his ass all the time, has a great attitude on & off the field,
and has made himself into a good player, despite being dissed by
a lot of scouts because he looks weird & throws weird.

Very much blue collar/hard worker type.
When he first came up, he would DIVE for fly balls
during BP. Berkman & Biggio kidded him about it
& told him that just wasn’t done in the big leagues,
but he said he was so happy to be there, he just
wanted to work on everything he could.
He explained at one point to a reporter, “When I was washing
my own uniform at Texarkana Junior College, I never thought
I’d be here. I love everything about it.”
He was in a bad slump to start this year, and basically
lived in the batting cage for a couple of months. They
had to practically pull him out of it.
Now he’s on fire, and his season totals are going to
be pretty good.

My suggestions for the road woes are
to carry the Coors environment with them.
1. Put fake spruce trees up in the bullpen.
2. Paint a Longs Peak picture on a poster & hang
it on the LF fence.
3. Send Dinger behind home plate in other teams’

I will say this
Both Schemmel and Corrigan sometimes fall into the trap of desribing details of a play for several seconds before actually giving the most important detail. For example, Eric Young Jr singled up the middle today, but I didn’t know that for 20 seconds because Corrigan was describing the acrobatics of Jurrjens on the mound

On Sep. 15, 2007...
…the Rockies lost their third game in a row and were 4.5 games back for the NL wild card. The next game started the glorious 14 of 15 run. Heck, it’s only Aug. 25 and we’re 4.5 games out of WC, maybe to be 4.0 before night is over!
Let's put this into perspective a little bit.
The Rockies still have not performed exceptionally well on the road this season. Unless they can win a lot of games on the road during the stretch run, the Rockies will not be playing in October. They weren’t quite this bad away from home in 2007.

So I went to pick up my kid and take him to the dentist after the 3rd inning.

So in the last 24 hours
The Rockies won 5-2, the Cards lost 4-3 to the PIRATES when they had the tying run on third with just one out and Matt Holliday up in the 9th, the Phils lost in 16 innings in a game that saw Ryan Howard strike out five times and get ejected and Roy Oswalt play left field, the Rockies winning again in a wild 12-10 nine run comeback, the Giants failing at their nine run comeback and losing to the to the Reds 12-11 in 12 innings, the Phils losing again with Roy Halladay on the mound, and now the Cards losing to the Pirates again.
What can I do to thank the baseball Gods for their remarkable generosity?

Let’s take stock
1) Braves: Swept on an epic comeback. Awesome. When I was able to check at work, and I saw 7 runs in the first two innings with Corpas on the mound, I was resigned to a loss. Later, i checked and it was 10-8. Hmm….and when I checked the final, well, my colleague wondered what was wrong with me. :)
2) Not only did the Giants lose, they lost in extras, and we got the added bonus of a blown save by Sir Preening Fauxhawk of the Clan of the Great Pumpkin.
3) Sucks to work late, but at least I made some extra money.
All in all, a very good day. Might this be the start of a wild ride (no matter how it ends up)?

A. Franklin Morales?
B. Juan Rincon?
Or something radical, like Rex Brothers?

If you take away playoff importance of a game, the SpillySlam game is probably the best game I have ever seen.

I was just thinking more about it.
I think because Dex being hurt and having to stay in. Adam Eaton getting us in trouble, Adam Eaton not swinging and getting walked…bases loaded and Spilly crashing the slam after his mom had died not too soon before etc. yeah
that is the best in my book. Not to mention all the hullaboo after with the umps

What a great baseball day!
Epic comeback win by the Rockies this afternoon. Then I took the wife, 1yo, and dog to the Sky Sox game and watched them pound the Salt Lake Bees for 7 runs in the 2nd inning, chasing the starting pitcher after recording only 5 outs. Also a fantastic leaping, somersaulting catch by Chris Nelson at SS (I still really want to see that guy play some 2B in Denver in Sept.).
Didn’t get much work done, but what a terrific day!
